Bright Makeup: The Violet Glow
Bright Makeup: The Violet Glow
Another look just for fun 🙂 Thought we could start the week with something ultra bright!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Digit Eyeshadow (iridescent light purple), Make Up For Ever #75 Eyeshadow (bright pink), MAC Atlantic Blue Eyeshadow (dark blue-violet), MAC Stars ‘n Rockets Eyeshadow (fuchsia-purple duochrome), MAC Hush Eyeshadow (pinky highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (blue), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
- Cheeks: Le Metier de Beaute Romeo & Juliet Blushing Bronzed Duet (cool baby pink)
- Lips: MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick (cool pink), MAC Luminary Lustreglass (sheer iridescent white-purple)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes:
For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Digit eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend #75 eyeshadow on the outer two-thirds of the lid with the 239. Pat Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on the middle third of the lid, overlapping Digit and #75. Next, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Digit eyeshadow with the crease shade and then highlight the brow bone with Hush eyeshadow. Bring everything together by applying Deviant liner on the lower lash line, then pat Digit eyeshadow beneath the liner and Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on top of the liner. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Fresh blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Viva Glam Gaga lipstick first, and then layer Luminary lustreglass for a complementing lip.
Beyond gorgeous once again. I enjoy your make-up looks so much! xoxo
Thank you, Sylvia!
Wow! I love this look! I really like the contrast of the hot pink with the blue. I will definitely need to try this! I finished my Stars n’Rockets pan ages ago but been thinking of replacing it for a while and this gives me another reason for getting a new one :o) .
I really like how you have been using Atlantic Blue in your looks recently – it gives me more inspiration for using the colour as I always tend to pair it with teals and blues.
Aw, thank you so much, Saira! 🙂
I adoreeee Atlantic Blue! Now, I’m like… “OK, step away from Atlantic Blue!”
That shadow combo is hot!
Thank you, Shontay!
wow amazing colours!
They do pair well together!
It´s beautiful!
Thanks, Bettina!
OMG! I sooo envy you! How I wish I’m that good with putting on eye shadows!! They are sooo pretty to look at!
Aww! Just keep practicing, Rica 🙂 I still am!
Thank you!
OOOOOoooooh it’s so pretty!
I did your green look a few days ago and I loved it! I mean, yours was still waaaaaaaay better than mine when it comes to blending and all that but I’m practising!
I’d love to try this one out, but I don’t have the fuchsia one and Atlantic blue… Any suggestions for dupes?
Thank you, Kasiaj! I’m so glad you gave it a try, and I bet it was fantabulous! 🙂
Really, you just need a really bright, bright pink. Unfortunately, there aren’t *that* may great dupes out there. Maybe even MAC’s Fuchsia pigment? Not quite as bright, but I think it’d do. Atlantic Blue… hmm, do you have any dark navy blues? Or even like a brighter blue and a cool-toned purple/violet? You could mix them!
What about Prussian? I have that but it looks a bit darker than Atlantic Blue 🙁
Maybe mixed with Electric Eel? something to brighten it up a bit 🙂
Ah, thanks a lot 🙂 I’ll try that!
🙂
I do have Fuchsia pigment and hmm when it comes to blues… maybe Deep Truth would do?
I have to try it out it looks so gorgeous on you! 🙂
Definitely give it a shot! I think that could work 🙂
OMG! this look looks fab on you! the blending of the colours are amazing!!
Thanks, Cathy!
Pretty! I love all the looks you’ve been doing.
Thanks a lot, Stephanie!
wonderful! i love the colors on this one!
Thank you, Diega 🙂
WOW! This has to be one of my favourite looks from you 🙂
Yay! Thanks, Christine!
Huh! Is it just me or does VG Gaga look brighter and less pastel in this look than it did the last time you used it? I was all “no no no” when I saw it listed (I dislike the color generally) but it actually looks great 🙂 The eyes are awesome too of course. Did you put Digit on your lashline under the Deviant liner? Can’t get over how great Atlantic Blue looks in combination with a hot pink.
It’s the gloss on top 🙂
Oh yes, Digit is on the lash line (below the liner) and Stars ‘n Rockets on top of the liner!
Oh really? Okay, I thought Luminary was mostly clear with some pink/purple opalescence…maybe I will have to look at it closer next time! Very pretty! 🙂
It is pretty sheer, but the pink in it really brings out the pink in Gaga 😀 Ooh, you could also use the new Splashing lipglass!
I don’t know why, but when I first saw the eye picture I thought: “This has to look really cool paired with Viva Glam Gaga lipstick!!!” 😀
Haha! 🙂
wooow this is so colourful and nice 🙂
Thanks so much, Josi!
reminds me of tulips 🙂 do you wear these looks out?
Definitely! 🙂
Fantastic – so 80’s! (I normally wear all black and then do my eyes bright like this – even to work – and I’m a secretary to a Prez.)
LOL! I find black works well with something as vibrant as this look, too!
This is SOOO beautiful – love!♥♥♥
Thanks a lot, Annie!
Oooh, I like!
Glow indeed!
You look great, Christine! 😀
Thank you, Wendy 😀
This is a pretty look, and one I will try since I have most of the shadows. I was really looking for a reason to buy the MUFE pink! I am really liking how VG Gaga looks on you. I thought it could never work on a warm toned person, but now I think I may give it a try.
Thanks, Andie! Hope you give it a try 🙂
Gorgeous as usual Christine! I’m really liking that UD eyeliner too..I think it’s been under my radar, so I may have pick it up!
Thanks, Megan!
Really gorgeous look 🙂
Thank ya, Phyrra!
OMG This look made me melt when I saw it. All of your looks are wow but this one floored me…I might be a little swayed because you incorporated all of my fav. colors in such a beautiful way. Kudos!
Oh, wow!! Thanks so much, Jamie Fox 😀
this is so pretty !!!! i have a quick question hope u don’t mind … is it normal to be allergic to MAC Firecracker ?? i just bought this and it seemed that this is the only shadow i am getting an immediate allergic reaction to 🙁
Thank you, Imeldita!
It’s not “normal” normal, but there are some who are more sensitive to red dyes, and since Firecracker does have some redness to it, that might be why 🙁
Oh my gosh this look is to die for gotta try ASAP 🙂
Thank ya, Ruby!
I love this look, especially how you did the outer V
Thanks, Nunu!
woooow!!! so cool!!!
I dont usually wear pink eyeshadow… but this combination is amazing!!!
Definitely not the easiest shade to wear, though!
Thank you!
This is SUCH a gorgeous look!! I love it!! The more I see it, the more I know I need to get Digit! It’s such a staple, especially for a purple lover like me!
Oh and I tried Nars’ shadow base at Sephora yesterday on my hand next to UDPP and Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and WOW! What a difference! I didn’t think anything could beat UDPP, but even hours later the part of my hand with Nars’ base on it was still bright! WOW! I think I need it!
Thanks a lot, Mariah! 😀
Ugh, I totally caved and bought one, so it must be good, LOL. ‘Cause I know I got about ten bases sitting at home that do their jobs!
beautiful look, as always ^-^
these colors really compliment your eyes!
Thanks, Ezzie 😀
rave status 😉 love this
yay! Thanks, Laura 🙂
I love it! You can’t go wrong with pink and purple!
Thanks, DJ! ;D
This is really pretty!
Is this all LE or pro mac eyeshadow?!
Thanks, Laura! Everything used in this look is permanent!
Awesome!
One more question. I wanted to do this look for the lady gaga concert. And I saw in a magazine this girl had the double wing. Do you think the black liner would be too much?!
NO way, it’s a Lady Gaga concert 😛
this is such a cute look on you!
Thanks a lot, Lenora!
Love it! I like how the blue in the crease continues in the liner 🙂
Thank you, Lunamaris 😀 Gotta tie everything together!
OMG Christine, this is GORGEOUS! My favorite colorful look that you’ve ever done. 🙂
Aw, thank you, Alyssa!
What a dramatic look, Christine! I don’t think there’s a look that you’ve done that I didn’t think was lovely.
With MAC’s Disney Villians collection, this look looks like a look out of that lookbook (man, how many times could I use the word “look” there)!
The Gaga lipstick looks great, too. By itself, it looks a bit garish on my skin tone (pale but yellow undertones thanks to Asian parents), but I like how much deeper and skintone-worky it looks with the gloss on top. 😀
Wait, have you SEEN the look book or it just seems like one that might be in it? LOL. You can’t give me a heart attack like that and not explain 😉
Thank you!!
Oh no. :B Sorry to give you a heart attack!
I should’ve worded it much better: it looks like a look that would come out of that lookbook. Looks like a gorgeous Maleficent look!
LOL! Gotcha ;D
looking pretty sweetie …
u think this viva glam gonna look nice on me ???
its launching in india on 11th june so m just confused
m surelly gonna buy red but not sure on this pink???
what say???
I don’t think you’d like it, to be honest! It may be too light for your tastes!
i absolutely lovee all your creative looks! they all look so awesome and i’m really loving this look!
Thanks, Susum!
So cool!
Thank ya!
love these colors! i know it’s just a personal choice, but may i ask why you don’t like to line your eyes with black in these looks? just curious 🙂
It causes a reaction on my upper lash line, so it itches and sometimes causes swelling/rashes on my eyelids, but in the short-term, the itching/burning causes my lash line to water and the makeup to turn to garbage. I really can’t do it very often – I did it two days in a row (maybe for 15-20 minutes each time), and my eyes are still a little tender.
oh no! that’s awful! so it’s only black that does it, regardless of formula or brand?
that actually happened to me for the first time last night when i went to use a stila smudge pot on my waterline, which i had used in other colors with no problem, and my eyes started getting really itchy and watery, and this morning they were really puffy. so sad, i feel like the product is a waste now 🙁
Any and all eyeliners – from powder to gel to cream to just eyeshadow patted on with an angled brush, because I think it has more to do with the movement/irritation of anything against the upper lash line that causes the reaction.
Hope your eyes feel better soon!
Lovely Christine! The eyeshadow colors remind me of exotic orchids 🙂 I steered clear of VG Gaga thinking that it would be too cool for my skin tone, but I see that you can pull it off beautifully..
Thank you so much, LuvJ! 😀
Yes, you can definitely rock it — try any warmer pink or even coral gloss on top!
i too was wondering why you choose not to use black liner in these looks. that really sucks that it causes that kind of reaction for you, because imho i think it would really give these looks some oomph. which liners cause this reaction for you, if you dont mind me asking? i wonder what component of the liner causes this; do you have any idea? i hope the eye tenderness gets better soon, i know that hurts; what a pain!
All eyeliners – liquid, powder, gel, cream, whatever. I think it is more of sensitivity to ANYTHING touching the lash line like that. I’ve always had very sensitive eyes – I carry a bottle of itch relief eye drops everywhere I go. I probably have one in every room.
Maybe I’m used to it, but I don’t think it takes away from the looks myself 🙂
It has always been interesting to me – wonder why application of shadow doesn’t cause the problem (but thank god it doesn’t, eh?) I don’t think it takes away from the looks at all though! I find upper liner to be a bit difficult to apply precisely and only do it occasionally myself and I think bold looks are awesome with or without it.
I think it’s that it’s the brush or the liner pen or whatever on the lash line, you know? It’s right in there, between the lashes, vs. eyeshadow, I’m not pushing into the lash line 🙂
Makes sense! Well, just want to say that I appreciate that you do looks that show upper liner despite it being a bother – you do lots of nice stuff like that for your readers 🙂 Just hope you don’t feel obligated to do it too much!
I try when I can 🙂 Thank you!
I think this is one of my favorite looks from you! I love the combination of the eyes and lips 🙂
Thank you, Stephanie 😀
This look is STUNNING. I’d run home and try it if I had that bright a pink shadow. Guess I’ll just have to get one! 😉 I just love Viva Glam Gaga and I need to get me a backup while I still can!
I hope you try it, Maria! 😀
Thank you!
holy bujezzus i love this! i love it when you do anything hot-pink 🙂 it reminds me of jem! hah!
Haha 😉 Thanks, Dusty!
You’ve got her beat though… I’d like to see Jem rock some angry classical music! I think not! 😉
LOL! 😉
The eyes are great but I think a hot pink color would bring this look to another level. Say for instance that Illamasqua Intense lipgloss in Petulant.
You could definitely do that if you want to 🙂
that blush looks gorgeous on you!!!
Thanks, Kristen!
Christine, this look is so beautiful. I really love the color combination and the way you did your eyes. I honestly think this is one of the BEST “color” looks you’ve ever done! The colors just look amazing on you.
Oh and btw I was reading about the “black liner” issue others mentioned and I remember you mentioned before that it irritates your eyes. Is it ONLY black or is it other colors too since I too noticed you always used colored liner (like on your lower lashline) but never black. That’s really too bad though. =( It’s like me and how most powder bronzes seem to irritate my skin. No idea why..
Thanks, Kali! 🙂
Nope, it’s any color. I really don’t think it’s so much a product-related issue but that touching that area just causes it to flare up. Normally, just applying eyeshadow, I don’t really get into the lash line, but with liner, you do have to push in and work much more in/on the lash line, which is what I think causes it to kind of itch and water.
Wow! That’s awesome! I totally like it.
Thank you, Trisha 🙂
so cool!
Thanks, Nik!
One of my favorites now, for sure! It reminds me a bit of the Northern Lights.
Thank you, Nora!
Wow! I love what you did! Oh and you made the Gaga lips wearable! I’m going to do this, def!
Thank ya, JessicaM!
These colors are so pretty on you, very modern and bright!
Thanks so much, Christy!
I like the depth and dimension you’ve achieved in this look:)
Thanks, Brenda!
Simply gorgeous. And super bold, which is right up my alley! I think this is my favorite look of yours!
Thanks, Brittany!
I love this look!! I had the MAC MUA recreate this look for me when I went to the Lady Gaga concert!!!! I had sooooooo many compliments. 🙂
Thank you so much, Laura!
I wish you had a video tutorial for this look. I love it so much and appreciate the detailed step by step instructions but looks like this I just am more a visual learning. Thank you anyways for the idea! I really love it. 🙂
Thanks a lot, Yolanda!
So beautiful, the girl and the makeup look! x
Front bangs would suit you so well.
Thanks, Isabela 🙂
Loove this look! And you eyes are so gorgeous!
Thank you, Nancy!
I did this look today and I received soooo many compliments! I loved it so much that I plan on wearing it again tomorrow to work!! 🙂
YAY!!
