Bright Makeup: The Violet Glow

Bright Makeup: The Violet Glow

Another look just for fun 🙂  Thought we could start the week with something ultra bright!

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Digit eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend #75 eyeshadow on the outer two-thirds of the lid with the 239.  Pat Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on the middle third of the lid, overlapping Digit and #75. Next, apply Atlantic Blue eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid.  Blend Digit eyeshadow with the crease shade and then highlight the brow bone with Hush eyeshadow. Bring everything together by applying Deviant liner on the lower lash line, then pat Digit eyeshadow beneath the liner and Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on top of the liner. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Fresh blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Viva Glam Gaga lipstick first, and then layer Luminary lustreglass for a complementing lip.

Wow! I love this look! I really like the contrast of the hot pink with the blue. I will definitely need to try this! I finished my Stars n’Rockets pan ages ago but been thinking of replacing it for a while and this gives me another reason for getting a new one :o) .

I really like how you have been using Atlantic Blue in your looks recently – it gives me more inspiration for using the colour as I always tend to pair it with teals and blues.

OOOOOoooooh it’s so pretty!
I did your green look a few days ago and I loved it! I mean, yours was still waaaaaaaay better than mine when it comes to blending and all that but I’m practising!
I’d love to try this one out, but I don’t have the fuchsia one and Atlantic blue… Any suggestions for dupes?

Christine Avatar

Thank you, Kasiaj! I’m so glad you gave it a try, and I bet it was fantabulous! 🙂

Really, you just need a really bright, bright pink. Unfortunately, there aren’t *that* may great dupes out there. Maybe even MAC’s Fuchsia pigment? Not quite as bright, but I think it’d do. Atlantic Blue… hmm, do you have any dark navy blues? Or even like a brighter blue and a cool-toned purple/violet? You could mix them!

kasiaj85 Avatar

🙂
I do have Fuchsia pigment and hmm when it comes to blues… maybe Deep Truth would do?
I have to try it out it looks so gorgeous on you! 🙂

daphne Avatar

Huh! Is it just me or does VG Gaga look brighter and less pastel in this look than it did the last time you used it? I was all “no no no” when I saw it listed (I dislike the color generally) but it actually looks great 🙂 The eyes are awesome too of course. Did you put Digit on your lashline under the Deviant liner? Can’t get over how great Atlantic Blue looks in combination with a hot pink.

daphne Avatar

Oh really? Okay, I thought Luminary was mostly clear with some pink/purple opalescence…maybe I will have to look at it closer next time! Very pretty! 🙂

Bettie Jean Avatar

Fantastic – so 80’s! (I normally wear all black and then do my eyes bright like this – even to work – and I’m a secretary to a Prez.)

Andie Avatar

This is a pretty look, and one I will try since I have most of the shadows. I was really looking for a reason to buy the MUFE pink! I am really liking how VG Gaga looks on you. I thought it could never work on a warm toned person, but now I think I may give it a try.

Megan Avatar

Gorgeous as usual Christine! I’m really liking that UD eyeliner too..I think it’s been under my radar, so I may have pick it up!

Jamie Fox Avatar

OMG This look made me melt when I saw it. All of your looks are wow but this one floored me…I might be a little swayed because you incorporated all of my fav. colors in such a beautiful way. Kudos!

imeldita Avatar

this is so pretty !!!! i have a quick question hope u don’t mind … is it normal to be allergic to MAC Firecracker ?? i just bought this and it seemed that this is the only shadow i am getting an immediate allergic reaction to 🙁

Mariah Avatar

This is SUCH a gorgeous look!! I love it!! The more I see it, the more I know I need to get Digit! It’s such a staple, especially for a purple lover like me!

Oh and I tried Nars’ shadow base at Sephora yesterday on my hand next to UDPP and Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and WOW! What a difference! I didn’t think anything could beat UDPP, but even hours later the part of my hand with Nars’ base on it was still bright! WOW! I think I need it!

Laura Avatar

Awesome!
One more question. I wanted to do this look for the lady gaga concert. And I saw in a magazine this girl had the double wing. Do you think the black liner would be too much?!

judith Avatar

What a dramatic look, Christine! I don’t think there’s a look that you’ve done that I didn’t think was lovely.

With MAC’s Disney Villians collection, this look looks like a look out of that lookbook (man, how many times could I use the word “look” there)!

The Gaga lipstick looks great, too. By itself, it looks a bit garish on my skin tone (pale but yellow undertones thanks to Asian parents), but I like how much deeper and skintone-worky it looks with the gloss on top. 😀

judith Avatar

Oh no. :B Sorry to give you a heart attack!

I should’ve worded it much better: it looks like a look that would come out of that lookbook. Looks like a gorgeous Maleficent look!

rashmi Avatar

looking pretty sweetie …
u think this viva glam gonna look nice on me ???
its launching in india on 11th june so m just confused
m surelly gonna buy red but not sure on this pink???
what say???

marisa Avatar

love these colors! i know it’s just a personal choice, but may i ask why you don’t like to line your eyes with black in these looks? just curious 🙂

Christine Avatar

It causes a reaction on my upper lash line, so it itches and sometimes causes swelling/rashes on my eyelids, but in the short-term, the itching/burning causes my lash line to water and the makeup to turn to garbage. I really can’t do it very often – I did it two days in a row (maybe for 15-20 minutes each time), and my eyes are still a little tender.

marisa Avatar

oh no! that’s awful! so it’s only black that does it, regardless of formula or brand?

that actually happened to me for the first time last night when i went to use a stila smudge pot on my waterline, which i had used in other colors with no problem, and my eyes started getting really itchy and watery, and this morning they were really puffy. so sad, i feel like the product is a waste now 🙁

LuvJ Avatar

Lovely Christine! The eyeshadow colors remind me of exotic orchids 🙂 I steered clear of VG Gaga thinking that it would be too cool for my skin tone, but I see that you can pull it off beautifully..

zoe77 Avatar

i too was wondering why you choose not to use black liner in these looks. that really sucks that it causes that kind of reaction for you, because imho i think it would really give these looks some oomph. which liners cause this reaction for you, if you dont mind me asking? i wonder what component of the liner causes this; do you have any idea? i hope the eye tenderness gets better soon, i know that hurts; what a pain!

Christine Avatar

All eyeliners – liquid, powder, gel, cream, whatever. I think it is more of sensitivity to ANYTHING touching the lash line like that. I’ve always had very sensitive eyes – I carry a bottle of itch relief eye drops everywhere I go. I probably have one in every room.

Maybe I’m used to it, but I don’t think it takes away from the looks myself 🙂

daphne Avatar

It has always been interesting to me – wonder why application of shadow doesn’t cause the problem (but thank god it doesn’t, eh?) I don’t think it takes away from the looks at all though! I find upper liner to be a bit difficult to apply precisely and only do it occasionally myself and I think bold looks are awesome with or without it.

daphne Avatar

Makes sense! Well, just want to say that I appreciate that you do looks that show upper liner despite it being a bother – you do lots of nice stuff like that for your readers 🙂 Just hope you don’t feel obligated to do it too much!

Maria Avatar

This look is STUNNING. I’d run home and try it if I had that bright a pink shadow. Guess I’ll just have to get one! 😉 I just love Viva Glam Gaga and I need to get me a backup while I still can!

Kat Avatar

The eyes are great but I think a hot pink color would bring this look to another level. Say for instance that Illamasqua Intense lipgloss in Petulant.

kali Avatar

Christine, this look is so beautiful. I really love the color combination and the way you did your eyes. I honestly think this is one of the BEST “color” looks you’ve ever done! The colors just look amazing on you.

Oh and btw I was reading about the “black liner” issue others mentioned and I remember you mentioned before that it irritates your eyes. Is it ONLY black or is it other colors too since I too noticed you always used colored liner (like on your lower lashline) but never black. That’s really too bad though. =( It’s like me and how most powder bronzes seem to irritate my skin. No idea why..

Christine Avatar

Thanks, Kali! 🙂

Nope, it’s any color. I really don’t think it’s so much a product-related issue but that touching that area just causes it to flare up. Normally, just applying eyeshadow, I don’t really get into the lash line, but with liner, you do have to push in and work much more in/on the lash line, which is what I think causes it to kind of itch and water.

Laura N. Avatar

I love this look!! I had the MAC MUA recreate this look for me when I went to the Lady Gaga concert!!!! I had sooooooo many compliments. 🙂

Yolanda Avatar

I wish you had a video tutorial for this look. I love it so much and appreciate the detailed step by step instructions but looks like this I just am more a visual learning. Thank you anyways for the idea! I really love it. 🙂

Kiara Avatar

I did this look today and I received soooo many compliments! I loved it so much that I plan on wearing it again tomorrow to work!! 🙂
