Five for Friday: Born to Run with the Earth ft. Urban Decay
Urban Decay Born to Run 21-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.42 oz.) really was one of the better, more interesting releases from the brand in the last few years. I felt like it made color more approachable for those who tend to stick to more traditional neutrals as the colors were more muted, slightly earthier. Let’s revisit some pretty combos to try with this palette — this time focusing on some of those grungier, earthier tones!
About This Series
Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. Consider these ideas a jumping off point with four “core” colors that can inspire your next look. For reference, based on how I usually apply makeup, I would consider applying the shades in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease or lid.

This is a favorite palette of mine and it’s the only one I took with me when we went on a six week vacation in the Before Times. I have been doing much simpler eye looks lately but these quads are inspiring me to do more. Thank you.
Quite possibly one of my favorite palettes by Urban Decay ever! It’s one I revisit a bit more often than my others, too. Probably because I can really take it in many different directions with the outstanding array of colors and depths. It’s a pretty perfect palette if you ask me!
Oh for the days when UD was innovative or even just “good”. I have the Born to Run palette and ideas for colour combos like the ones you posted, Christine, are so helpful even if I only use 2 or at most 3 of the shades in a particular “story”.
I just pulled this out of my stash to use the other day! Thanks for the inspiring combos! I agree, one of the best. Lately they have been lack luster or poorer quality. I took this on my vacation to Hawaii in 2018. Love the beach and ocean pics on the palette. I am looking forward to their new singles. Hope they perform well.
I like this palette so much more than the Naked series. I use it on a regular basis and always end up coming back after a break. The quad suggestions are an added inspiration for me to try out.
Oh yeah! I need to break this bad girl out! I can’t remember if I really explored all options. I think I found a super pretty color combo and wore it for a week or two and then… a shiny object showed up on my doorstep and she was forgotten. Really a gorgeous palette though and great functional packaging.
This shows how versatile and how good UD can make eye palettes. Lovely autumnal shade combinations here – the greens/blues with the browns and golds.
Do you have this palette, Genevieve? With you moving into autumn, I could see this being a real treasure to have.
Your eye for color is so good. I’ll keep practicing so someday I can pull these multi-colored looks together, too.
My top recommendations are practicing on the back of your hand and incorporating 1-2 colors at a time – so if you see a combo, maybe just try two of the four shades 🙂
That’s AMAZING advice, Christine!!! I’m gonna CONSTANTLY be walking around with rainbow hands now!!! Lol…thanks, girl!!! 😉 <3
Great idea, thanks! Lots of practice without much to clean up. Guess I’ll be the second joining the rainbow hands parade.
No problem! It is definitely a nice way to play without feeling like you have to get it right if you have to go somewhere. It also lets you start and stop on the fly!
That’s the reason I never bought this palette even when on sale. I have soooo many deep colors and as I age I find these earthy tones make me look older and tired. But they are nice for smoky eyes.
I really like this series!
