Bobbi Brown Really Black Ink Liner Review, Photos, Swatches

Bobbi Brown Really Black Ink Liner ($24.00 for 0.03 oz.) is described as a “jet black.” The formula is supposed to be “highly-pigmented” and “last up to eight hours.” It has a felt-tip applicator that’s very pointed and quite small overall, so precise lining is made easy with this shade. The length of the felt-tip is just right, too, for more precise eyeliner, because it’s not too long, and it has a good stiffness, but still some pliability, to glide across the lash line without tugging. It’s opaque in a single pass, and I love that it doesn’t feel watery at all, as some felt-tip liners can. It’s very, very black in person, but as black liquid eyeliners are wont to do, they will photograph either a little blue or brown, depending on the undertone–Really Black has a brown base.

This wears for at least eight hours–I don’t think it’s really going to budge until you want it to. I lined just above my lash line, across my lid, and then drew a line across my crease, just for kicks, to test the wear out–it was like a checkerboard on my eye. It dries down quickly, and then it’s set. I didn’t have any smudging, budging, or fading over a ten-hour period.

I will admit I’m curious when brands launch products like these: staple, everyday products that don’t already exist in the permanent range. Bobbi Brown launched this with the Neon & Nudes collection for spring, yet it’s a limited edition product.

That bites that this is limited edition 🙁 I would definitely try it out if it wasn’t… if I ended up loving it then I’d be stumped that it’s not sold anymore >.<

Christine: for future reference, I would LOVE to see the wear pictures (just after application, and 10 hours later) of something weird like your checkerboard eye! Unorthodox: yes. Useful makeup test experiment: DEFINITELY!!

Hey Christine, many felt tip liners start their application bold and strong but towards doing the second eye they lose their power, and glide with much less color shown,
have you tried to do both eyes and it performed equally on both? (sorry for asking, it doesnt say so in the post)
Thank you

No, I didn’t have any problem – I drew the three lines for swatches all in one go – which is more eyeliner than you’d use on the lid! Do you know if you’ve stored your eyeliners upside down? The ink essentially has to soak the tip of the marker, so if it’s stored the opposite way, that could be contributing.

I bought this and loved it…unfortunately, mine dried up completely in about 5 weeks…and I had only used it maybe a handful of times…big fail for me! I am completely disappointed in this product and certainly wouldn’t purchase again, LE or not. I’m a huge BB fan so the shoddiness of this item was a surprise.

Best, Lisa

I really love it. It’s quick and easy to apply, plus convenient to take in purse without having to use a brush and open/close a container. My first one lasted about five weeks, also. Pretty darn quick! I’ve purchased another one… although, I have to admit I also use Maybelline’s ink liner which is pretty good, too!
