Bobbi Brown Black Pearl Shimmer Nail Lacquer
Interesting Color, But Brush Strokes Rain on the Parade
Bobbi Brown Black Pearl Shimmer Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.37 fl. oz.) is described as a “shimmering rich brown graphite.” It’s a deep blackened-brown with a hint of plum and fine threads of shimmer. Chanel Strong came to mind, but it is more burgundy–quite a bit redder in shimmer; and Bobbi Brown Twilight is a lot like Strong, so it’s not much like this one. Chanel Vertigo is a bit grayer, and it has less shimmer. China Glaze Bogie is more red-toned.
The color was fully opaque after two coats, but there were visible brush strokes in both natural and brighter lighting, which may or may not be a deal-breaker for you. It had a great consistency that wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it flowed beautifully across the nail without streaking, bubbling, or pooling along the edges of the nail. I typically get a week of wear with minor tip wear but no chips with Bobbi Brown’s formula.

Aw that’s a shame–I would have really liked it if it weren’t for those brush strokes. Sometimes I think they’re okay, but these just stand out against the dark base too much :/
Aw, too bad about the brush strokes because I do like the color a lot.
Brush strokes don’t usually bother me, so I find this pretty. I’m not in love with it though, so it’s a skip.
too much brush-stroke action for my OCD, lol
it looks like opi-light my sapphire!
I love the warmer color of this polish. Very pretty.
I agree with you Christine, as well as most of the comments so far. The color is really interesting and subtly nuanced…but the brush strokes are KILLIN’ me.
I never really like brush strokes when I see them in person (break out the glitter polish!) but I don’t think it looks so bad hear. I like the shimmery-grayish-metallic look paired with the nice top coat (what is that btw?). I don’t mind it, but I don’t $18 love it.
That color is EVERYTHING, but I agree…$18 nail polish doesn’t get to streak when my $2 Sally Hansen doesn’t.
How are people clicking leave? This is gorgeous.
