Bite Beauty Burgundy Cashmere Lip Cream Review, Photos, Swatches

Bite Beauty Burgundy Cashmere Lip Cream ($28.00 for 0.26 fl. oz.) is described as a “berry purple.” It’s a rich, medium-dark berry-purple with cool undertones and a soft shine. MAC Pure Heroine (LE, $16.00) is darker, purpler, less berry. MAC Feel My Pulse (LE, $16.00) is lighter, muted. MAC Violetta (P, $16.00) is shimmery, purpler, brighter. MAC Strong Woman (LE, $16.00) is darker, purpler, more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I’ve reviewed a few shades from the formula previously (see them here), and when Sephora had their last sale, I couldn’t resist trying a few more. The formula is supposed to be a “cream-to-powder matte lip color” with intense pigmentation. This shade was richly pigmented, applied evenly and smoothly, and wore well for six hours while also leaving behind a stain. It was neither drying nor hydrating on me, and the finish doesn’t wear down to matte for two to three hours. The consistency is light-medium in weight (noticeable but not heavy), lightly creamy, and has a herbal-ish scent that is detectable from the applicator but not really when worn.

Now, something happened with the packaging on this particular tube, because I had it resting on my hallway banister, along with a couple of other shades, and when I went to put it away, it had leaked — there is a berry-stain in the shape of the tube as a result, which I greatly look forward to removing the paint and repainting. I can’t imagine what kind of damage this might have done if it had leaked in a makeup bag, purse, etc. I checked, and the cap was on securely, and it seemed to have stopped leaking color and oil (the two separated during the leaking process). I moved it over clear plastic, and it didn’t seem to leak any more, but the liquid in the tube is much more of a creamy paste as a result. Also, the doe-foot applicator arrived bent/partially snapped. I haven’t had either of these issues with any of the other shades I have (six in all), and I purchased all of mine online at Sephora, which suggests this is unusual, not the norm, but I hope it is very, very rare.

I love the way this looks on you, Christine but i find it a little disturbing that the lipstick stained your bannister so bad that you need to repair by removing the paint! I thought that this line was health-friendly….

It totally leaked and sat there for maybe a week? or longer. But something like this absolutely stains lips, skin, etc. in a short time as well, so I’m not really surprised? I could drop a raspberry and squish into the carpet, and that’s edible and will stain, too!

Ouch, sorry to hear about your nasty experience with the tube! The shade looks lovely on you, though 🙂 Did you pick up Port, too? It’s my favorite shade in the bunch!

Whoa that sounds crazy. Sorry that happened to you! Thank goodness it wasn’t in your purse or anything. That could have been bad. Hopefully this is a really rare occurrence! The color is gorgeous and the formula sounds like a dream. I would hate for this to be a common issue with such a nice product

I wonder if it has to do with the heat? I have the same color, and when I first purchased and used it, the packaging (including the applicator were just fine). Then, the temperatures soared to the 90s the past few days where I live, and when I reached for Burgundy last night, I noticed that the doe foot applicator was totally bent, just like yours (I know it was straight when I used it previously)! Although my tube didn’t break…

This looks pretty gorgeous, though I’m not typically a fan of liquid lipsticks.
The color alone might suck me in, though – it looks like a great shade for fall.
Good grief – did I just mention “fall,” after the winter we just came out of?
Let’s have summer, first. 🙂

Well, on second look, this seems to read more “magenta” to me than “burgundy.”
The “gorgeous” still stands, but it might actually work as a warm weather shade, especially blotted/sheered out.
I wonder how it would look on NW15 me – NOT that I need another lip color!
I like to at least pretend to be somewhat rational … 🙂

What a pretty color! Such a shame about what it did to your banister! My banister is also wear I drop off colors I’m about to transfer into my daily or stage kit so I understand how horrifying it would be to have a lip product ruin it. I wonder the easy meltability of these products has to do with the food-grade ingredients. Of course it makes perfect sense to have only edible ingredients in a lippy, but at the same time cosmetic grade ingredients are differently formulated for a reason. Too bad about the applicator, too. Looks humorous…a bit uhh…flaccid.

Mine’s wooden and literally right there when you walk up the stairs from my front door. It would definitely be a big, obvious problem for me haha. Glad it wasn’t TOO bad!

Hi Christine – I work for a beauty company in product development and what’s happening in the above photo leads me to question whether the formula is compatible with the packaging (this is something beauty companies test before launching a product). It’s a good sign that this has only happened with one shade you own but I would be careful!

Emma Avatar

Wow what a shame about the applicator and the tube! I’ve never seen that before..even in $2 drugstore glosses. I would be horrified if something like this exploded in my purse!

I bought this lipstick recently. AMAZING color. It just wouldn’t stay on. It kept feathering. Maybe it’s just me, because I have another lip cream which is wonderful. I probably have to prime my lips…

I had the wand issue with one of mine – but Sephora took it right back and exchanged it for another. I love this color and LOVE the formula. So long lasting and comfortable. I haven’t tried any other high ends (hourglass, kat von d, stila) but I have done the NYX. These are WAAAAY better than the NYX. How do you think they compare to the other long wearing mattes?

Hez Avatar

Hi Christine, sorry to hear about your beauty accident! From the photo, this looks like it has an interesting texture.. I also felt that way when I saw the Dior Fluid Stick.. interesting looking texture. Have a great weekend!

Lauren Avatar

I bought this same shade recently and experienced the same problem with the applicator. Mine hasn’t leaked (fingers crossed) but the applicator is challenging to work with when it’s “broken.”

Elizabeth Avatar

I have two shades of this, and both leaked– not outside of the tube, but from the inside into the outer packaging. Neither were mailed; I bought them in-person at Sephora. I’m definitely disappointed with the packaging, but the colors are gorgeous and since the texture is fine, I kept them.

kellly Avatar

Oooh, that is really beautiful, but after reading how many people have had trouble with the packaging and/or applicator, I’m hesitant about buying one. I do love the color, tho. But I think at the price they could have had higher quality packaging that wouldn’t be giving so many problems. One packaging fail could be just coincidence, but the comments seem to indicate it’s not that rare.

I bought this in September, and it was a nearly perfect tube. The doefoot didn’t have any issues. I notice your tube has the same problem that mine developed though. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like these tubes are like my insulated tumblers, and after a while my Burgundy lip cream leaked out of the main container and into the “insulation” part of the tube. Does that make sense? And as a result, it was also applying a lot drier like I had used up most of the product already when I had really only worn it a handful of times!

So, I exchanged it today. The SA at Sephora tried to tell me that wasn’t product leaking into the housing/insulation but the product separating because it’s all natural. I hate being BSed… I have OCC Lip Tars that separate and that is really obvious. This doesn’t look anything like that to me. I hope this new one works better. I plan to store it upright only.

It’s worth noting though that while other colors had the same problem, Burgundy was the worst offender of all the ones that another SA and I checked. And their Burgundy tester had the flappy doefoot like yours, and she was really embarrassed by it and threw it away.
