Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion Review, Photos
Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion
Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion SPF 15 PA++ ($28.00 for 1.7 fl. oz.) is a new moisturizer from Benefit’s b.right! Radiant Skincare line. It’s designed to be lightweight while being oil-free. This moisturizer does have SPF 15 in it, and it uses chemical sunscreens (Octinoxate, Avobenzone, Octocrylene, and Sulisobenzone).
my skin type: I have normal-to-dry skin that tends to be drier in the winter months but more normal during the rest of the year. I have minor breakouts with the occasional cystic acne spot that seem to be related to hormones/stress (and not typically products). I have some fine lines around my eyes but am not currently concerned about anti-aging (beyond religious use of sunscreen and generally taking care of my skin).
It is a simple moisturizer–it hydrates without leaving behind any greasiness, and it dries down within a few minutes so a semi-matte finish. The consistency is very thin–think a lightweight lotion–and a bit watery, though not runny. It’s housed in a glass bottle with a “cork” (not actually made out of cork) cap that you pull off to reveal a pump dispenser.
Unlike Stay Don’t Stray, which killed me with its pump, this pump works marvelously. I find I use anywhere from five to six pumps per use. What I like about pumps is you can figure out how many you need and be consistent with your usage–plus it’s more hygienic.  The glass bottle is lovely without being too heavy.
I’ve been using this for about four weeks, but I’m too sensitive to the scent of the product to continue using it personally. It has a very strong floral scent with some sweetness. To me, it is the scent I smell when I know my allergies are going to go haywire. I catch whiffs of it throughout the day and find it a little cloying. I’m not normally that sensitive to scents in products, and I wouldn’t consider my nose an excellent sensory device either–but I still detect this hours later. It seems to turn more sickeningly sweet as the day goes on. Scent is immensely personal, and for those who prefer subtle to no fragrance in their skin care, I would avoid this. For those who don’t mind scented skincare, it’s still worth checking out and deciding whether it’s a scent you enjoy or not.
good for: I would recommend it to normal-to-oily skin types, because it is such a lightweight moisturizer that it’s not going to provide enough hydratoin for drier skin types. I noticed that on my drier days (when I started using it, which was closer to winter), it didn’t quite seem like enough, but it was usually just fine.
final thoughts: Despite finding it unsuitable to me personally, I don’t think taking away points for scent (just because the scent doesn’t appeal to me) would be a fair assessment of the product. I’ve disclaimed it, my feelings on the fragrance, and it’s something personal enough that individual users will have to determine how that factor weighs in. It’s a nice lightweight moisturizer that spreads easily, moisturizes well on normal-to-oily skin types without feeling heavy or greasy.

I love this packaging! I’m going to have to look at these once I see them in stores, I’m such a sucker for old fashioned apothecary themed lines… And I love skin care products that smell pretty, although there is a thin line between pretty and cloying. Hopefully I can put up with this, otherwise I’ll stick with what I’m currently using!
Wow I love the packaging! It’s a shame that it has such a lasting scent though.
Thank you for commenting on the scent and posting the ingredients! You’re a dear, Christine 🙂
I actually liked the scent of it when I smelled it, though now that you mention it, I may not have liked it so much were I using it every day (I didn’t buy it).
The bottle is really pretty, but it’s going to be a nightmare to shake out the last bits of lotion when the pump stops reaching it. I love squeeze tubes best, because I can be brutal with that while still being sanitary 🙂 I got this in a deluxe sample gift set at Sephora, and the mini bottle has no pump. It’s like, do I need a mini butter knife so I can treat this like ketchup? Heh. I actually love the smell, but do agree that this is better for oily skin…it’s just a little too matte/not rich enough for me.
Benefit always has the cutest packaging!! im not sure if im gonna buy this though… 28 bux seems a bit too much for only 50 ml but im def gonna check it out at a sephora
50ml is regular size of 99% moisturizers on the market
In Asian skincare lines, emulsions are actually used as some sort of pre-moisturizer for extra hydration. Of course, they’re also good worn alone for those needing a very light moisturizer. 🙂
Based on Benefit’s description, that isn’t how this is to be used or what it’s supposed to do, though. It actually recommends another product entirely to prep the skin for this product.
That is quite interesting. o.O In that case, I agree that the product is most likely meant as a very light moisturizer.
The bottle <3
The packaging is gorgeous, but I’ve had really bad experiences with Benefit skincare before. Between past experiences and the scent, I think I’m going to have to pass.
The scent will last forever
fragrance is known to be the number one skin irritant, so i dont know why companies insist of putting loads of fragrances in skincare. it’s counterproductive and probably hurting skin more than helping it in the long run.
This. Plus chemical sunscreens like avobenzone can aggravate acne, so if you’re acne-prone, beware.
could you show a pic of the pump?
Benefit has it in their promo photo! I say this because it will take me weeks to go back and take a photo, crop, and upload, so since they already show it, you can see it instantly 🙂
I am a skincare junkie and unfortunately ..the ingredient list is rather sad.
Would you mind explaining why? I know nothing about this stuff. .
I think she means it’s sad because of the combination of avobenzone and octinoxate. they can’t coexist because the avobenzone becomes unstable when octinoxate is added.
“Fragrance” also is an awful ingredient – 8/10 on skindeep’s cosmetic database (with 10 being the most harmful).
I REALLY love how you put a picture of the ingredients up, I try not to use too many products with dyes and fragrance and it’s wonderful to know if a product has that before I even try to go and look at it, it save’s me time and Gas money, which is wonderful. THANKS!!
The packaging looks cute, like an elixir bottle 😛
I love this… and works well for me
I guess I cannot use this one.I’m allergic to chemical sunscreens.
The scent is very nice abd it last long
i got a sample size of this in a set with the eye cream and the foaming cleanser. i love this stuff. it’s a great light weight moisturizer.
is it okay to use this moisturizer at night if it has spf?
I imagine it should be fine as long as you’re not sensitive to the sunscreen ingredients.
Wow! this looks like it is gonna be mine 😀

I feel your pain about the sent of the Benefit skincare! I got to try out the cleanser, moisturizer, and eye cream but sadly, the scent was not only off-putting but my face was a hot burning mess after one use! Definitely not for sensitive types. I adore the packaging, though and will definitely be keeping the bottles in my bathroom lol!
“Fragrance” is on the ingredients list … definitely passing on this one!
I wish I could just buy the bottle separately and fill it with my own moisturizer >_> LOL
I thought that was a bottle of Patron tequila! haha
I love this cream and I’m usually quite picky. I have normal/dry and sensitive skin, but found the emulsion was enough to keep my skin soft all day long and prevent any dry patches. It also doesn’t aggravate my face at all or cause any blotches or redness. The reason I like the cream so much is that it really brightened up my complexion and gives me a very even tone and clear skin. I was ill for a week, but people were still complementing my skin and saying that I looked well. It seems from reading some comments here that I have been a little lucky to react well to the product. It definitely has a strong smell and do not get any on your lips when applying, as it tastes absolutely foul and you won’t be able to get rid of the horrible taste all day long! I can imagine this cream causing some problems for people, as it does seem to contain some very strong ingredients, but if your skin reacts to it well then it is a very good moisturiser.
