Benefit Lollitint Lip & Cheek Stain Review, Photos, Swatches

Benefit Lollitint Lip & Cheek Stain

Benefit Lollitint Lip & Cheek Stain ($30.00 for 0.42 fl. oz.) is described as a “candy-orchid tint.” It’s a cool-toned, pinky-lavender with blue undertones and a satin sheen. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Blush (LE) is shimmery, powder. Urban Decay Quickie (LE) is a powder, lighter. NARS Angelika (P, $29.00) is shimmery, powder. MAC Peony Petal (LE, $21.00) is powder, lighter. MAC I’m the One (LE, $21.00) is powder. See comparison swatches. (Note, I couldn’t think of any dupes that mimiced the lip stain aspect.)

Lollitint applied to lips was horrific; my lips looked shriveled and terribly dry (I spared you the close-up–it was a total train-wreck). It’s something that I think could be worn as a base, but you’d need something nicely hydrating on top to bring back moisture and smoothness to the lip. It almost had a slightly stinging sensation for the first half a second it was applied, and I tried it on two separate occasions and had the same feeling and end results. It applied somewhat evenly, but it doesn’t stain the lips evenly–it absolutely stains, though. I don’t recommend swatching this on an area you don’t want pink-tinted for the next two days! On lips, the stain aspect seems to last four hours or so. It was unbearably drying, unfortunately. I’m not sure why, but the wear and feel of Benefit’s stains totally varies from shade to shade when it comes to wearing them on lips.

On cheeks, it was infinitely better, both in terms of application as well as the final result. It has a very thin consistency, but it’s not so thin that it’s water-like. You’ll want to work one cheek at a time, as it dries down fairly quickly and doesn’t remain blendable for long. I liked fingertips best for blending and maneuvering the color on the skin. It does apply more easily over bare skin, but I was still able to pat and blend over foundation. You can also apply this more heavily onto bare skin, then apply your foundation and use only light coverage on cheeks–the color will still come through! If you have a liquid foundation that takes a bit longer to dry, it’s particularly nice to apply this when your foundation is still slightly wet. It wore well for ten hours on bare cheeks–at the very least–and that was with a light-handed application.

Thank you Christine. I wonder if you can give me some suggestion, I have NARs Orgasm, but want something in liquid/cream/stain form of that color, will chachatint be a close up dupe?

18thCenturyFox Avatar

I just apply straight from the brush to my bare cheek- right at the very tops of the cheeks and sheer it out to add dimension. I then add blush and voila!

No way, Gina! I have ChaCha tint and don’t particular care for it. Can only occasionally pull it off during the summer, and it’s only because I hate wasting a product. This is not one I would miss if I lost it.
But I have the Orgasm powder blush and LOVE it. I also have Nars’ ‘The Multiple’ in Orgasm – it’s great; it’s a creamy stick form of that color. Or try The Illuminator in Orgasm – it’s a liquid form.

The color is so nice! But the only thing I like about these Benefit tints is their smell. I hate the way they stain your finger and stay even more than it does on the cheeks when applied.

Hey Christine,
I forgot to add this with my previous comment, sorry – would you say it is too similar to Nars Angelika to justify getting? I love your blog btw. I don’t buy anything anymore without consulting Temptalia. 🙂

Christine Avatar

I think they’re more similar applied than they otherwise look – Angelika has silver sparkle but I don’t find that that many of them actually show when applied! If you prefer liquid or cream formulas, then it might still be worth it, but if you say use Angelika on occasion and not every day… it’s not *needed.*

Honestly, I can justify either way for you – just let me know your leaning 😉

Lucina Avatar

They look so similar swatched, and I have no particular leanings, but the packaging for lollitint is just too cute to pass up! decisions, decisions.

I had totally forgotten this could be used on lips, which is funny because I noticed your lips not looking ermm, as great as they normally look in photos. But they also looked weirder to me than just bare lips. Then I looked closer and realized the lilacy-color on them and realized you were actually wearing a product on them haha! I’ll definitely pass on this product, it’s not for me in any way.

I don’t really use their tints on my lips, don’t think they work very well for that but after your review about the staying power on the cheeks, I’ll definitely be picking this up when I can! I have difficulty making blush stay on my cheeks, so stains are the perfect way to, with a bit of powder blush on top. Btw, this color really suited you! You look great!

I’m not sure about this. It looks pretty on your cheek but I have TheBalm’s Down Boy which probably looks much the same on me – a light, sort of milky pink. I got a sample of ChaCha and find it stains before I can blend it so I’d be a bit wary that this might do the same.

I was prepared to hate this based on your review, but then when I scrolled down to look at the pictures, I liked it (as a blush). I have never tried Benetint (can you believe it?) because I wasn’t sure how you apply it. Duh, it didn’t occur to me that there was a brush, lol! What was I thinking? Now that I see the shade of this I really like it. It sounds a little difficult to apply — trying to decide whether to apply first or after foundation – in my case fairly viscous IT CC Cream — makes me wonder whether I can do it. I may see if I can get Sephora to give me a little sample to try

I’ve been loving that shade of orchid on my lips lately, but this tint sounded scary bad for the lips…. x:

I don’t think I have an orchid blush yet and this looks great on you, Christine.
I’m just really bad at applying liquid/cream blushes especially when I have to conceal parts of my cheeks.
Powder blushes are more forgiving and easy to maneuver.

I have Benefit’s other tints that I’ve barely used. ;-; Need to try them again.

Have been waiting for your take on this! =) Such a shame that most of the dupes you listed are LE–I have been looking for a cheek product in this color but in the form of a cream or powder (NARS Angelika I believe has shimmer). Hopefully with the new Pantone color there will soon be more shades out like this.

I’m not what most would call a “subtle” fan of makeup so holy schnikies was I surprised when I realized my mini Posietint was always in my bag and that I regularly reached for it. Same goes for my full size Benefit Tarzan style tan tint. I love that stuff but I know its discontinued so I don’t carry it around with me in case of bottle breakage. Angelika was my first and favorite NARS blush but there is certainly room for this as well since I seem to love to use them to create subtle depth below the eye and then use another blush for impact. Thanks Christine!

I have both Cha Cha Tint and Posietint, so I’m curious about this one.

For those who find application difficult, I like to brush this on the tips of a kabuki brush then use that to apply it to my cheeks. That way I get to blend and diffuse the color better without staining my fingers. It works best for me after I apply moisturizer as well. Hth!

What a great tip! Thank you for sharing! I’ve had Benetint and currently love Posietint, never thought of applying them this way and saving my fingertips.

Once again, we have a different lip experience 😉 I have all the Benefit tints, and this one is the best performer on my lips. I actually find it slightly hydrating, and after a couple of layers, it’s totally even and opaque, and it lasts for hours. For Benetint and the others, lips have always been more of a struggle, but this one feels reformulated to me. I love wearing it on cheeks and lips for a nicely harmonized look.

I use ChaCha tint almost every day and I love how natural it looks. My skin is pretty light and when I accidentally overuse it people seriously ask me if I got too much sun. I’ve been wanting a pink tone but Poise tint kinda of disappears on my cheeks. Gotta try this one.
