Benefit Lollibop Ultra Plush Lipgloss Review, Photos, Swatches
Benefit Lollibop Ultra Plush Lipgloss
Benefit Lollibop Ultra Plush Lipgloss ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “hot pink.” Squeezed from the tube, it’s a creamy, medium-dark pink with cool undertones. On lips, it’s a barely-there wash of pink; it brightens my natural lip color while amplifying any pink tones to it, but it doesn’t dramatically alter the color. Urban Decay Flushed is slightly more pigmented and more neutral. Guerlain Cherry Pink is slightly pinker and has sparkle. Chanel Pink Pulsion is cooler-toned, more fuchsia. Dolce & Gabbana Candy is comparable–slightly more milky-looking in appearance.
I think this gloss really pushes the boundaries of “sheer” and still describing it as “hot pink.” Benefit says, “from crystal clear to hot pink,” as if the range offers a variety of color/coverages–and this is just so barely-there. It would be clearer and better for customers to see this described as a “sheer hot pink.” I don’t have pigmented lips naturally, but the effect of this gloss is my-lips-but-better balm. Because the formula is only lightly hydrating, this wouldn’t be my first choice for something with such a subtle effect.
I like the consistency of the Ultra Plush formula, because it is not too thin or too thick and feels like a gel-balm hybrid.  It’s slick, lightweight, and comfortable to wear.  It’s moderately glossy, but the glossiness tends to fade within an hour down to a more natural sheen.  The whole product, though, disappears in record time: two hours at the very most, but it tends to wear between an hour and an hour and a half.

Oh yeah, that is not hot pink at all… 🙂 Lukewarm maybe 😉
Wear-time aside, these are just a big flop, in my opinion. I’m quite certain they look lovely on the display in-store, with all the pretty colors, but when actually applied, they all look the same-colorless. I’d rather save $10+ and go with a tinted lip balm, and I have a few that actually have more pigment.
I’m not a huge fan of the brand as a whole, as it really seems aimed toward the younger set, yet the prices verge on HE. These look like the type of gloss I picked up as a kid, but they were in the $1 range…
Not thrilled with the price or the effect on lips. I’d rather pay $8 more for a NARS gloss or $8 less for a Revlon one.
These glosses all looks like something I’d buy at the drugstore. Sheer colors and short wear time can be bought for a couple dollars from wet n wild or covergirl. I can’t imagine paying a mid-end price for these. I am seriously not a fan.
Just what the world needs—another sheer lip gloss
Wow, it has such potential and then you see it on and hot pink it’s not. It’s barely there!
Ugh, the packaging is so cute. Benefit needs to come up with some better glosses -_-
They’ve got some nice ones that they made to match the box powders. The price is slightly higher, but they’re so much better they make these kind of pointless.
if i’m not mistaken, they are the same exact formula. and as an owner of two…still extremely disappointing
I liked the Hoola one. I bought the gift set around Christmas and broke it up, but that’s the one I kept.
Sheer hot pink just seems like an oxymoron!
You are such a lovely woman!
Thank you!
Agree completely with this review. The coverage is spotty looking, even from further away. And it might just be me, but it looks watery even before you spread it on your lips. I’m not a chemist but it seems like whatever medium the pigment is suspended in just isn’t cutting it. I’ve definitely seen other much more translucent glosses make more of a statement. Thanks for this review Christine!
My gosh just buy a MAC Lipglass for $15. They taste and smell like Vanilla and they are true to color. They’re a little sticky but they last forever. The only good thing Benefit sells is their boxed powders.
Or MAC’s Lipgelees – rather similar in texture, feel, and general wear/concept.
I find that colors like this are really brightening to the whole complexion, too bad it’s so sheer. NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Beige is a similar color and very pigmented
