Beautiful Beginnings with Bare Escentuals
Beautiful Beginnings with Bare Escentuals
What was the first Bare Escentuals product you ever tried? Did it pave way for a real romance or did it put you off the brand entirely? What was the first Bare Escentuals product you purchased? Did you love it? Hate it? Still own it?
my answer: I really hadn’t had much experience with the brand until the past year or so. The first products I tested were their High Shines, which had fantastic color and payoff but awful packaging. Next was their skincare (which I guess is technically bareMinerals), which I adore and still adore! I’ve come to appreciate the brand, and eventually, I’ll try their loose eyeshadows.
I first used their mineral foundation, and absolutely hated it. They say it’s supposed to work with all skin types, but my dry skin was just not having it. It looked cakey and felt uncomfortable. However, I keep seeing glowing reviews of their new pressed shadows, and I’m dying to try them! I’ve been eyeing the Dream Sequence quad, because I love purples. I’m always eager to try out new, fantastic eyeshadow formulas.
The “works for all skin types” tag line is the same one used by Proactiv. It’s simply not true.
I tried bare minerals years ago. It made my skin red and itchy, and it settled in my pores. That was a short lived experiment.
I actually love bare minerals! I have used the foundation and loose shadows, blush, bronzer and highlighters for a few years now. It takes some getting used to and for special events I still use my Dior AirFlash Foundation but for everyday it really has worked for me. I will say I dislike the lipstick, lipgloss, and colored primers and have yet to try their pressed shadows as I have been on a ysl shadow kick. Their brushes are also great quality for the price and the only brushes I own anymore!
Bare Minerals was the first line of makeup that I was allowed to wear as a teenager, as that was the one my mother was most loyal to. I started with their blushes, foundation, loose shadows, and brushes. I love how low maintenance the foundation is – you don’t ever have to worry about blending, you could practically put it on without a mirror. While heavier coverage is nice for special occasions, I can’t imagine their products not being a part of my everyday routine! 🙂 Now that their line has expanded to READY and Buxom, I love to say I’ve been there since the humble beginnings, and love to try each amazing new products as they come out!
BareMinerals was the first foundation I bought, and I still have it… because I hate it and couldn’t finish it. The shade was too pinky, and my oily skin feels even worse than usual, and I totally agree with lauramarie100, it settles in my pores. Finally, I found it a bit difficult to apply and so it tended to look really cakey at times. BUT, I swatched one of their glosses in sephora and I think I might try them some time.
The only item that I own from Bare Escentuals is The Elements quad. I really love it, especially the matte gray/taupe (Earth). I want to try more from the Ready duos when they launch the new shades.
I guess my first experience was some freebie Sephora stuff – little kits with the Bare Minerals powder foundation and a mini-kabuki brush so mini as to be useless; I received both an original and a matte kit over the space of some months. One of them came with a foundation primer that was pretty good but the mineral foundations were not very good, compared with others I use and really like. Then I tried Summer Bisque under-eye concealer and how I wish I’d kept the bill and returned it – not good at all. THEN – thanks to Christine – I tried their Prime Time Primer Shadow in Urban Nature and that was total LOVE. And as much as I don’t like the Summer Bisque powder concealer, I do really like the same product in “Well Rested”. I have a few loose shadows I like well enough – Bare Skin, Nude Beach (I think that’s the name) and Queen Tiffany. Don’t like the mess, though, so I am eager to try their new pressed shadows but the last thing I need right now is MORE eyeshadow (not that this will stop me…)
I tried their mineral powder when everyone was raving about it. I coudnt find a color match and mine was too dark. Also, I find that it rubs easily on anything that might come in contact with my face. Forget wearing white tops ! Retuned it and that was the end of my experience with the brand.
My first experience with Bare Minerals was with their foundation. I fell in love with the way it worked for me, and then the brand as a whole. I currently own over 300 of their loose shadows. Love, love, love them. I have also branched out to their new pressed line, as well as most of their radiances. This brand was my first experience with higher end makeup, and I have never looked back!
I love Bare Minerals and @bareescentuals in general…I have used most of their makeup products for years. The first product I had ever tried was the loose Mineral Veil and it was the only item I used for YEARS….I didn’t want or liked foundation much in general so I stuck with the Mineral Veil until I went in their boutique to test for color and I’m in love. Both the Original and Matte foundation works well with my skin. The finish makes my face look like it has not natural coverage and not cakey- it works well with my oily, sensitive skin. I love the Buxom line. My first Buxom lip gloss was Candi – a very pretty berry that I have since re-purchased many times over the years. It started with those 3 items and since then my collection has grown ten fold! LOL I am currently using their skincare line also and I love it! I’m excited that the company finally came out with their Ready shadows and blushes and Moxie lipgloss…So, yes, my collection will continue to grow and I know I will be using the brand for many years to come.
Starting out as a mineral makeup user I was underwhelmed by this line of product. I also had a skin irritation to the high levels of Bismuth Oxychloride (just itchiness with me). I have no problems with the loose shadow those probably due to use of a primer and the fact your not buffing eyeshadow into your skin. Also slight overpriced for their eyeshadows as well.
It wasn’t until the new pressed product that I’ve taken a second look at this line as the shadows are SO buttery!
I got their foundation and hated it. I wanted to try wearing foundation when I was younger, but my mother was convinced that mineral makeup was the only thing for me because it was “light”. It was a terrible choice because of my dry skin. It also always oxidized like crazy on me and left my face looking red and orange and irritated and terrible. She kept pushing them, insisting that I wasn’t applying it correctly, but it just wasn’t going to work for me. I did like the Mineral Veil for the little bit of oil that I got, but I could have used anything since I didn’t ever have much of a need for it, even during puberty.
6 yrs ago I bought there “get started” box set and fell in love. I really hate foundation, but the fairly light mineral foundation was perfect for me. It makes me look airbrushed. Every now and then I try something new, but always go back. I bought loose blushes, eyeshadows, lipstick and Buxom glosses. My favorite lipstick ever was BE, but it has since been discontinued and I think it was a different formula. I personally have never had fallout issues with their products, but I’m always careful to tap the excess off the brush before applying. I have yet to try their Ready line, but plan to purchase some soon.
My first product was there powder foundation. I didn’t really care for it. Then I tried Mineral Veil and really liked it . Still do. I also own a lot of there blushes and shadows. I recently bought there A list qaud in the ready shadows and really like them as well. The new moxie glosses I really dont care for due to the tingle in them that I can’t stand. But my favorite product from them by far is there prime time face primer. It’s cheaper than smashbox but works just as good.
This was the first makeup brand I bought from…about 4-5 years ago I think. I got a face starter kit and a couple eyeshadow kits. I still have the brushes from the kits!! They’re not the softest, but they work well. I don’t use the foundation anymore (switched to youngblood currently), but I still use the eyeshadows; they last forever!
My first experience with the brand was a long time ago when they were still “swirl, tap, and buff” on the infomercial. I’ve tried several of their products and with the exception of the Buxom lip gloss I am allergic to all of them. I’m allergic to most mineral makeup so nothing against the brand personally.
Surprisingly enough, I’ve never used their foundation! I do have a blush however, as well as their Prime Time face primer and eyeshadow primer (which came together in a kit). I love the face primer, it’s my favourite from the brand. I bought both products together and have only stocked up on the primer since.
I ordered the starter kit from an infomercial in 2004.
i.d. bareMinerals eyeshadow in true gold… fantastic, it’s been my favorite gold since then 🙂
I ordered a starter kit from the infomercials…so probably foundation
1999~ bare skin glimmer & the lip balm, Buzz Latte they discontinued. Jewel was wearing it on the cover of a magazine as lip color. I ran in the boutique in King Of Prussia Mall, PA got the 2 items & flew out. went back in after lunch & grabbed foundation, brush & mineral veil, fruit cocktail blush. HOOKED ever since. =) still have bare skin glimmer too. haha
mineral veil and i loved it!
of course forgot to mention after the girls taught me,swirl, tap, buff!
never tried
I got a kit the first time. Face and I think a blush but oh that was so long ago. Up until a few weeks ago I only did BE for foundation.
The only product was the ‘foundation’. A makeup artist applied it on me and i did not like it because I was used to liquid foundations… I started using powder now and probably will give it another try when I finish my pressed powder!
Aw I remember Buzz Latte…I always had a tube of that handy-miss it!! My first purchase was that and Bare Skin glitter eyeshadow (most beautiful shade apart from Celestine IMO!) followed soon after by the Starter Kit
Ordered the starter kit. Looked too powdery on me. Gave it to my cousins, one who used them already and another who was new to the brand and she loved the foundation. A friend of mine didn’t like it either. I use Mary Kay mineral foundation on top of my tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation to set it and it looks great, much cheaper too. Only thing from BE I have are two eyeliner brushes, that’s it. Hate loose powder stuff. Tempted to buy their ready eyeshadow or blushes but I don’t need anything 😉
The Mineral Veil Finishing Powder.
i first tried BE about 13yrs ago i ordered a starer kit from QVC. I fell inlove with how it made me look and what it did for my skin! I have exclusivly used BE for about 10yrs with the exception of moisturizer and mascara. The new READY blows the loose shadows out of the water and thanks to the Night Treatment scars I’ve had from surgries years ago have faded away!!! I can’t say enough about how i love this line and can’t wait for the solid READY foundation to come out in the fall.
I tried the mineral foundation and had an instant allergy. It’s strange because I use Urban Decay’s Surreal Skin Mineral Powder Foundation with absolutely no problem. I’ve also used L’oreal Mineral blush with no negative reaction. So, I’m not sure what’s up with the Bare Escentuals Foundation.
I hear alot of people are allergic to this….wonder why…
There is an ingredient in the original foundation called bismuth oxychloride that causes a reaction for some people. It isn’t in the matte though. Different strokes for different folks 🙂
Foundation. Loved it at first, but now don’t like how the powder highlights every wrinkle. I do still use their eyeshadows, especially like the new compacts for travel.
I gave their mineral foundation a try, first the matte formula then the original formula. Both breaks me out and after that I am kind of scared to try any of their products 🙁 I was on the fence of purchasing their glosses tho, but I guess the first experience kinda scarred me ^^;
Only started using it 2 years ago…The foundation along with the Buxom mascara was given to me by someone who worked at corporate in SF…Then she gave me, I guess leftovers eyeshadows, pencil-type eyeliners, mascara, lipgloss etc from the brand and I gave them all away except from two eyeshadows…then I bought two eyeshadows to try out…The foundation is ok, but I apply it after my moisturizer and liquid foundation and use it like a loose powder foundation…The loose eyeshadows is another thing. It is a mess to apply. I am half awake in the morning already. It is too high maintainance to do a good job…If it wasnt for that person, I would not have bought any BE products. I look at the lid of that foundation and looks messy and stains all over the place. I am going to get Caron face powder again when I am done with what I have left.
It has been quite some time that I used to like BM foundation. I never really liked the Mineral Veil, though, it spoiled the whole look by leaving a ghostly mask (i am medium fair).
I hadn’t tried anything from this brand until last October when I finally broke down and told my husband I had to try their mineral foundation to know if it was as good as everyone says. I bought one of those sets that came with two color options of the foundation (the orignial not matte), the mineral veil, and the warmth bronze (as well as a few brushes). I have to say I have enjoyed using these products expect for the mineral veil. I thought it didn’t work well as a setting powder and did nothing to help control oil. I like the foundation besides the fact that it’s not longwearing, but it makes my skin look so good. It may get me through an 8 hour day, but that’s with touch ups. The warmth I really like. I thought it would be too dark, but just a pinch of this goes a long way to giving my face some color while still looking natural.
So, overall I like the brand. I have since then bough some of the pressed blushes and the wake me up (name check?) loose powder, which is great for brightening without any shimmer or glitter. I still haven’t gotten any of the ready to wear eyeshadows, but I want to.

I started with the buxom lipglosses which are AMAZING! I have probably 12 of them that I’ve accumulated. Eventually I started wearing the matte foundation and bought a couple of blushes. Now I actually work at a BE counter! I truly love the makeup–and while it’s not for everyone, it is a great product. I can’t wear the original foundation because it breaks me out but for those who don’t have a reaction to it– it looks so good when applied correctly! One thing I’ve learned is those corny slogans aren’t just catch phrases–you really have to use a small amout and swirl, tap, buff! This is getting to sound way too infomercially–lol! But all in all they have some great products & some terrible ones (concealers…powder, really?) but that is true with most brands.
I started 3 years ago with the loose mineral eyecolors, then blushes, foundation, skincare, Buxom lipglosses, and everything else Bare Escentuals makes soon followed. I am in love with the brand and 95% of what they produce works for me. You really need to try the loose eyecolors soon, Christine!
I tried Bare Minerals for the first time almost three years ago and I was hooked for life :). I started with the foundation (I got one of their 30 days trial kits, which came with foundation, mineral veil, warmth, mascara and brushes). I still wear it to this day and it is definitely my go-to foundation. I also love the skin care products and their faux-tan is probably one of the best self-tanners on the market.
I’ve remained a Bare Minerals fan and I’m thrilled with the new READY products (eye shadows, bronzers, blushes, finishing powder, etc.). I bought almost all of the existing READY products and they are amazing.
I also use BUXOM products, my favorite lip glosses are definitely from this line and some of my go-to cream shadows are from this line also.
