bareMinerals The Hollywood Ending Eyeshadow Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
bareMinerals The Hollywood Ending Eyeshadow Duo
bareMinerals The Hollywood Ending Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) was disappointing as a duo. I don’t think that they work that well together, because the drier consistency of more frosted Dazzle doesn’t play so well with the more matte finish of Promise. It’s an unusual pair of colors, but this one didn’t knock it out of the park–and I’m so accustomed to bareMinerals doing so with the Ready range!
Promise is described as a “creamy beige.” It’s a cool-toned, pink-tinged beige with a mostly matte finish. It had excellent color payoff, while the consistency was soft, smooth, and very finely-milled. The color started to creas after ten hours of wear. theBalm Matt Smith (LE, $16.00) is less pink. Urban Decay Walk of Shame (P, $18.00) is lighter. MAC Lithe Spirit (LE, $15.00) is a touch lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Dazzle is described as a “midnight teal.” It’s a deepened, dark green-based teal with a frosted finish and cool undertones. The texture seemed soft initially, but there’s a slight dryness to it that is particularly visible when applied to the skin–it just doesn’t have the same really smooth, even, blendable texture that many Ready eyeshadows do. The color did, however, wear well for ten and a half hours before fading slightly. This shade was included in a previously limited edition holiday palette. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren #7 (LE) is a touch lighter. bareMinerals Deep Sea (LE, $14.00) is similar. Sephora Collection Midnight Swim (16) (P, $13.00) is darker, less shimmery. Milani Mix It Up (P, $6.99) is brighter. bareMinerals Editor’s Pick (LE) is slightly muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I like the cute plastic insert that reads “Hello”. Whenever I see most of these duos, I like the colours individually but feel that they intentionally don’t put in colours that totally go together so you have to buy more than one duo. In the previous two duos you recently reviewed, if the darker shades had been switched, they would have been better.
Interesting! I have the opposite feeling – the duos often work nicely together! I loved how the last two worked, haha. Go figure!
I agree with Christine! I haven’t seen a duo yet where the shades don’t work together… Then again, I’m a huge fan of NARS duos, and there are alot of “unusual” pairings it that line, LOL! Ultimately, it’s really a matter of taste.
I agree, Christine – is is sort of an odd pairing of colours but that darker shade looks so interesting. Didn’t Bare Minerals already have a duo or quad called “The Promise”? This business of reusing names confuses me! Also, I’ve been meaning to ask – is Bare Minerals phasing out some of the original duos and quads? I wonder because so many of them are being shown as “out of stock” on Sephora and there doesn’t seem to be much happening in terms of restocking them. To be honest, much as I like the ones I have, I do think the collections are a bit lacking in variety and can see a little “boring”, so perhaps a revamp/getting rid of duos that are very similar/launching new choices to replace them is a good idea to inject more interest and sales as well. Generally, I’ve found the Ready eyeshadows to be really good, so seeing new launches (just wish they’d GET them at Sephora!) is exciting.
They did! Except “The Promise” was a duo, so the actual shades were called something else. But I was like, “Promise… that sounds familiar…”
I really don’t know – I hadn’t heard that they were discontinuing any, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they axed a few poorer sellers to make room for these. These seem to be REALLY slow to get to retailers, but I saw all but this one on Nordstrom (finally).
Funny you should review this today, Christine, I just bought it yesterday! I was happy to finally find a highlighter color in the Ready range that’s not shimmery/frosted. So far I like the palette very much… sorry it didn’t work out quite as well for you!
I love the color of Dazzle (no problems with Promise!), but it just had an odd dryness to it when I used it. Glad you’re enjoying yours! It’s not a bad eyeshadow, just… not quite as good as others in the range.
The teal is gorgeous!
It is a nice color!
the shades are pretty.. too bad they don’t work together in terms of texture 🙁
I think if Promise had just a little more shimmer to it, they would blend really nicely! OR if Dazzle was softer.
The blue is nice.
Glad you liked Dazzle!
Oh noo. I saw these in your swatch gallery last night and thought the duo would get a better grade. Bummer that Dazzle has texture issues. 🙁 I have Sephora Midnight Swim though, so I guess I’ll just need to find a good matte pink-beige now.
It’s so weird with Dazzle, because it doesn’t SEEM dry really but as it adheres to the skin, it feels and looks it a bit.
I like the shade Dazzled for holiday looks, but it’s not something that I’d get a ton of use out of since I work in schools and have to be very natural. I’ll definitely be checking out some of the cheaper dupes come Christmas time.
Good idea, Audrey! If it’s not a shade you need often, best to find it in a bigger palette or a cheaper dupe!
Naww, this was the duo I was most looking forward to from that promo lineup from BM you posted a while ago! It’s a bit sad that the teal shade wasn’t quite up to the usual BM standard!
It’s an interesting issue, if only because it doesn’t really seem apparent until it hits the skin!
I really love that teal colour – it is beautiful. Yes, I agree with you Christine, it is an unusual pairing. A silver grey would have been better I think. So unusual for bareMinerals to get it wrong.
The teal is a great shade!
Thank you for touting bM Ready e/s formula. Picked up comfort zone quad at tax free days. Each shade works quite well as a base shade, imo slightly better than they all work together. but, for total easy, you can put on one, add crease + e/l + poof! Ready in a NY minute. The quad also plays nicely with others, notably Monarch. There is also so much less mess than the loose. I hadn’t cruised bM in years…. just like w/ stila smudge sticks, you reminded me not to overlook brands i had rather written off.
My pleasure, KJH! Really a huge fan of the color payoff + texture + wear.
So cute! I love the name and the color combo. The green eyeshadow is especially pretty!
It is!
Dazzle is a pretty shade!
It is!
I have this site to thank for opening my eyes to BM duos & quads, where as before i wrote them off under the mineral makeup label. I think Covert Affair will be my first purchase 🙂 Dazzle IS pretty though
<3 So glad you gave them a chance!
the dazzle swatch just made my heart go pitter-patter lol!
Aww!
