Are there any fragrance families you don't wear because of the season?
For me, it might be more related to temperature than specifically season, but that’s only if I’m going to be outdoors and typically more related to heavier, darker scents (lots of amber, woods, spices) on a very hot day. I feel like I’d wear a summery scent during the fall/winter out, though.
I go by weather, rather than season. I save warm, spicy scents like Chanel Coco for cooler temperatures. Other than that, I just wear whatever I’m in the mood for. I wear citrusy “summer” fragrances year-round.
It’s really only in hot weather that I’m careful and will avoid heavier, “oriental” type scents – Clinique Aromatics Elixir, Shalimar, Paloma Picasso – those sorts of fragrances are just a bit much when it’s hot and humid (and also, I don’t wear them at school, where I’m working in close proximity with students; my school doesn’t have a “no fragrance” policy but I try to wear lighter, more citrus-y, fresh scents at school).
Now the aquatics are sleeping, esp the salty or fresh waters. I usually like florals in spring, citrus or aquas in summer. Fall & winter, big old coyotes. Haha chypres. Foresty greens mixed in, especially holidays. I never do sweet gourmands that are so on trend Not to forget vetivers, a favorite note.
Do we even have real “seasons” here in The Valley of the Sun? I call them: Coolish, Warm w/Cold Nights, Hot, Bonfire Blast!
As such, I reserve my more potent scents like Tom Ford Black Orchid and Avon x Christian La Croix Absynthe for the Coolish or Warm w/Cold Nights weather.
YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche usually for the same.
But, for Hot and especially Bonfire Blast: Fresh Life, Juicy Couture Blooming Babe or Maison Margiella Beach Walk. Gotta keep it light, citrusy or beachy when it’s 90+F!
No, I’ll wear whatever, whenever.
Nope. Maybe if I lived somewhere with more distinct seasons, ha ha.
I definitely don’t gravitate to the heavier, spicier scents at any time of year and since I don’t really change scents with season, I would have to say no. I tend to prefer lighter scents year round. They just make me feel good. About the closest I would come to a heavier scent would be Eternity, Lauren and Halston. I like all three but wear them more when the mood strikes than with seasonal or temperature changes.
No, I want to leave a trail of Dior Addict vanilla all year long 🤍
Nah. I have a few frags I just prefer more in cooler months, like Burberry Brit. In general though I just wear whatever I want. Same goes for makeup.
Not really, I tend to wear fragrances that suit my mood and what I am wearing.
Until a few yrs ago, I had worn only one perfume (Donna Karan Cashmere Mist) for over a decade but I developed much more of an interest in fragrance when Covid moved to NYC and lockdown ensured I had lots of free time! I still have one that I wear year round (Mugler’s Alien) but when it’s hot in spring and summer, I prefer something lighter and fresh during the day (Dior Blooming Bouquet, Nest Wisteria Blue, Lake & Sky 11:11 or Aerin Ikat Jasmine) and will wear Alien at night.
