Edward Bess Island Blossom Ultra Slick Lipstick
Edward Bess Island Blossom Ultra Slick Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “soft coral.” It’s medium-dark coral-orange with a soft, satiny finish and warm undertones. NARS Lodhi is a shade or so lighter. MAC Style Surge is pinker. Chanel La Ravissante is darker and redder. Dolce & Gabbana Cosmopolitan is darker, redder. MAC Vegas Volt is a smidgen pinker.
The Ultra Slick formula is supposed to be creamy, hydrating, long-wearing, and “[deliver] rich pigment with a satin finish.” Island Blossom is very pigmented–it’s pretty much one-stroke color–that glides on evenly, smoothly, and without tugging on the lips. The consistency is lightly creamy, so it applies easily but doesn’t slide around once applied. It feels lightweight and comfortable to wear, and this particular shade wore for five hours, which is good but a little short of long-wear (based on my averages, which would be closer to six). My lips felt nicely hydrated during and for a couple hours after wear.

Do you think this would be too pale for NC35?
Nope, I don’t think so!
Beautiful. Christine, you look so lovely in this color!
Thanks, Danielle!
The color looks great on you, Christine!
Thank you!
There are a lot of colors like this out that don’t cost $30! I couldn’t hand over that much money for lipstick that isn’t that unique.
That is a beautiful colour! But $32.00 seems quite dear for a lipstick. Could anyone suggest a drugstore version of that shade?
All of the dupes I could think of are listed in the post! 🙂
It looks pretty close to OCC Grandma, which is half the price.
I love the name “Grandma” because my grandmother wore a lipstick in this shade for years!
I’m not loving the color, but looking at the finish, texture, etc, I’d be curious to take a look at some other shades.
I just noticed you’re wearing the Kat von D eyeliner; do you have any Kat von D reviews planned?
Great colour on you Christine, I was waiting for this. So glad you like the formula, now I feel a bit more confident to get it, lol!.I’m seriously loving Edward Bess atm, going on a craze here. Did you tried the new blushes as well? It’s gorgeous! ^^
I have one of Bess’ lipstick–Sundown, which happens to be spot on Asian nude. And the formulation is really good, and to date the only hydrating lipstick I have tried. Too bad I prefer matte finishes, if not I’d definitely buy more in his range.
This colour seems like the coral I hope most would be (more orange instead of pink). I might try it soon.
Christine this is so your shade (and mine too)! I’m getting so excited about it! Can’t wait for it to show up in the mail 🙂 I have Lodhi too and this does remind me of it, but I can’t have too many corals (or can I… haha)!
Hi Christine, This lipstick looks great on you. Do you think this would look good on NC40?
Yes!
Wow.. ZERO lip freckle here! lol I like full coverage.. I love this color and always pick it up but somehow I can’t really pull it off. Just don’t like it on me.
Daaaaamn why do I have to love this so much? It’s $32 YIKES! lol
Hye Christine! you look beautiful in this color. May I know how this shade compared to MAC Ravishing? thanks
Ravishing is pinker, less orange!
Does this formula have the same scent/taste of other EB lipsticks? I have a few, and the scent is listed as “fig”–and I HATE it. I’d try this formula if I knew it didn’t literally stink like the others.
Yes!
I don’t really care for the opaque appearance of this. I like the coral color, but would prefer it to be a bit more sheer.
So pretty! How does this formula compare to MAC’s Mineralize Rich lipsticks, Christine? Preference?
I think these stay on a little better, not as thick! No real preference between the two.
Will this be too dark for very pale skin?
I don’t think so!
