Beige Couture (523)

Dior Beige Couture (523) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition offering for the fall season. It’s a very light-leaning palette that has a tendency to run together as the first three shades are just so similar (they’ll have the most noticeable contrast on mid-tone skin, I think, as they won’t contrast against very light skin). I’d normally side-eye something this light-leaning, but Dior released this and a much deeper, reddish-neutral palette simultaneously, so the collection addresses the needs of more skin tones as a result.

I’ve normally had better luck with the brand’s embossed quads, but the texture of the eyeshadows seemed overly firm, which produced some powderiness/dryness and made it harder to pick up colors with a dry brush. The quality wasn’t The Worst, but it wasn’t spectacular, and for $65, I do think we should be looking for spectacular!

Beige Couture #1

Beige Couture #1 is a light peach with warmer, more orange-leaning undertones paired with a pearly sheen.

  • Mostly opaque pigmentation
  • Slightly firmer consistency, not dense or thick, but didn’t pick up as readily with a brush
  • Applied evenly and blended out without issues
  • Long-wearing (8 hours before fading visibly)

Formula Overview

-

The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.

There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.

Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

Is “Blah” the new eye makeup trend??? I usually get excited about Dior 5 pans (except for their recent reformulation which is so dreadful) but this is just SO BLAND. Is there a makeup wearer alive who doesn’t have these shades in abundance?

I imagine a woman, who normally feels insecure about her makeup skills, leisurely strolling in the makeup department and she’s having a good day. She decides to become someone who totally will wear a sophistecated makeup to the office from now on, decides to indulge herself with something luxurious, and this is just the perfect piece for that.
