Do you match your foundation to your face, neck, chest, or a combo?

I tend to do a combo, though closer to my neck as it is quite a bit lighter than my face most of the time!

I match my face since I don’t put foundation (if I wear it at all) all over. If I were to match my neck, people would mistake me for someone in need of a blood transfusion…I’m pale and getting paler every year and my neck is paler than my face. So, if need be, I fluff a bit of light coloured bronzer around my neck a bit to make things look a bit more “even”.

I use sunscreen religiously and my body is always protected from the sun via clothing – even in 100+ heat – so there isn’t a stark shade difference in my face and neck. BUT I have rosacea, so the difference between my red face and white ass neck is pretty stark unless I have a light, strongly yellow-based tint or concealer to use to cancel out that red and then poof they magically match again.

Sometimes using a light gradual tan lotion (like bondi sands in the blue bottle) adds enough color to my body without having to cancel out the red first.

Definitely a bit of a “combo”, which is quite the challenge! My face is lighter than my upper chest, arms and during summer, also my neck. Probably due to my constant usage of Vite C serums and other “brightening” actives. Also, I use a much higher SPF on my face and neck than the rest of my body. This does make a crazy difference in my pigmentation between face and body during the hot weather when more skin is exposed! Also of note, my face and neck run warmer than my body due to poor circulation to my extremities…nope, I don’t understand it either.

My face and neck are also warmer than my body. My arms are neutral, but my legs and arms are definitely cool toned.

I have the opposite problem, my face and neck are slightly darker. It’s not modesty related, I always liked full coverage but form fitting clothing, so even in summer I rarely expose my arms and legs (I have a pet peeve of my sweaty arms and legs touching things, I can’t wear shorts in a car or standing on a bench at the gym 😅). I want to start wearing more UPF gloves during the summer because… Yeah… The coloring on my skin is all over the place as well.

I usually match the foundation with my neck, I hate when there is a clear line between face and neck. I would also say chest, but I rarely have my chest exposed (I love turtlenecks and tops that reach the neckline, I never liked low scoops). Without having rosaceae or hyperpigmentation, the skin on my face tends to have a different shade and it also fluctuates during the day… neck is safer for me and looks the most natural.

But if when I was able to swatch in store in general I would go for the jawline. That way I can see how the color blends with both my neck and cheek.

The only way in which my neck and face are different in color is that I have a lot of pink/red in my face. If Im ever worried about anything matching its my face to my body, no one wants to look like a floating head.

I’m used to never care to even match, just take the fair shade with N or C or Korean BB creams shade 13. Never missed. But know I match to my neck ’cause my aging skin get more and more uneven with colour.
