Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

For me, availability in store is a big one for me. I’m not willing to shell out money for the product, the shipping, exchange and duty when I can’t actually see and swatch the product for myself, based on my skin colouring, my preferences, etc. So a product has to be available to me locally for starters. Then, if it’s something that gets a good review here and fits in with my personal tastes, that’ll do it!

Does it look appealing? Is it relatively easy to get? Is the website in English, and not just run through Google Translate (Sigil Inspired)? What are the shipping costs like? How established is the brand (I’m not interested in brand new indie brands)?

Uniqueness and/or innovative formulas or shades. Also, lately, I’m more drawn to mid-end level pricing and perhaps lower, if the quality is there. For face products, I’m looking at how inclusive their range is. Liking many “indie” brands for eyeshadow these days, as the mainstream brands just only rarely offer something more unique and different.

Ditto Christine! I would also add that the brand would ship internationally and the shipping costs not exhorbidant.
If it is sold in Australia, then it would be easier for me to swatch and see the product for myself, but the mark up would also be high too. Sometimes I have found it cheaper to ship the product from an online retailer like Beautylish than buy the product here!

High quality and shipping that isn’t more than the product unless it’s stellar (lethal cosmetics, you’re SO worth it). The death and decay (haha) of my favorite brands does help inspire me to seek out better indies as the quality of formerly reliable brands dips. Otherwise I would just stick with the tried and true.

Quality ingredients. Quality packaging. Interesting color stories. Environmentally conscious sourcing and materials.

I haven’t messed with any new brands in a while as they all look, feel, and review like they’re just more garbage being churned out in private label factories.
