Profumum Antico Caruso Perfume Review

Profumum Roma Antico Caruso Eau de Parfum starts off with bright citrus and lavender before almonds added a nutty, creaminess and enhanced a hint of spiced vanilla. As it wore on, it was nuttier, woodier, and smoother as the sandalwood married with the almond and left the citrus behind.

Profumum had a more condensed list of notes (almond, amber, orange flowers, sandalwood), but Jovoy Paris also listed lavender and tonka bean in the base notes. It seemed like it absolutely had lavender as a note in it from my experience!

  • top notes: almond
  • heart notes: orange blossom
  • base notes: sandalwood, amber, lavender, tonka bean

It opened with fresh lavender with sharp citrus–like lemon peels and a hint of orange blossom warmth, but the citrus was tart and zesty. It was bright, clean, and almost soapy. It took about a half hour for Antico Caruso to get warmer, more citrusy with a modicum of vanilla. Underneath that ran a vein of a subtle nutty, creaminess with a pinch of spice.

The fragrance grew creamier, smoother, and woodier with a more toned-down lavender, no orange blossom, and a vague nuttiness, but it seemed to blend with the woodsy element quite a bit. The lavender seemed a little tamed by the appearance of more vanilla-like sweetness.

It was a melody of creamy, nutty almonds and smooth sandalwood after an hour of wear, which became softer and marginally sweeter with less almond tones after five hours of wear. I didn’t feel like I was able to detect amber as a clear note at any point during the wear.

Application

For testing, I used 1/3 of a 1ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise. I purchased my sample in January 2022.

Longevity

It lasted for five hours until it was a skin-scent and about 12 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with the sillage dropping faster than the projection within two hours of wear.

Personal Thoughts

It generally struck me as a “clean” scent for most of the journey, which I love in household products (like dishwashing soap) but not so much as something to wear all day.

Available Sizes

  • 100ml for $275
  • 18ml for $93 (harder to find size in the US)
