What would you like to see brands release in 2022?
I hope we’ll see greater diversity in product offerings, e.g. more comprehensive blush ranges, from more brands. I’d love to see more satin and pearl-finish blush/eyeshadow products. I’d also love to see smaller-format eye palettes, like quads.
Even though I am on the fair side, I would like to see companies really release color stories that work for multiple skin tones a la PMG or Fenty. Hourglass is particularly egregious, imo.
I would more brands (especially Too Faced) have a more gender nuanced marketing approach. I am really sick of marketing emails that start with, āHey Ladyā or whatever. Embrace you non-binary, genderqueer and male clientele!!! It is 2022!!!
Oh, and less perfumed lip products. Thank you.
Sorry. That was a lot of things.
YES to gender-nuance! I got really annoyed earlier this year while taking a survey from Sephora. It started off well by asking me my gender (female, male, or non-binary), but then later on, after asking me who I shared my household with (one other adult) they asked me if I only made Sephora purchases for myself, or for another adult woman, or for an adult male. Since I make Sephora purchases for my non-binary spouse, there was no correct way to answer the question! So I submitted a complaint via their customer support chat. The nice customer service rep said they would pass along my complaint, but who knows if it ever made it before the eyes of someone who would have the power to do anything.
Good for you. At least it’s a start on Sephora’s part. Ten years ago, a survey like this would be totally limited to women (and perhaps men) and no one else.
A BYO custom travel palette (for me: cool-neutral undertones) with “A” quality on everything: eyes, face & lip. It’s my fantasy to pack one thing for business trips.
For me, it’s not so much about releasing as holding onto….I would like to see brands sticking with successful and popular formulas and products rather than reformulating them in some pursuit of “clean” and “green” substitutes that rarely measure up to the originals (the old UD shadows VS the crappy new ones; the old Afterglow blushes and highlighters, Sephora’s replacement of great pencil liners with less great new ones, either with the same name (my personal favourite, Cappuccino, the new one of which has a really mediocre rating from Christine), or great DC’d ones like Snakeskin Dress. I don’t find a lot of the changes and reformulations to be improvements!
I’d like to second this!
Fewer releases overall. A lot of brands seem to care more about sheer volume of product over the quality of their product. I’d also like to see brands work on their core lines and staple permanent products. Brands keep releasing five shades of something and then never expanding the range but then release a glowy version a matte version and powder version a cream version a liquid version etc etc in the same shades. Please if you created an believably amazing formula of a product give us more shades!
I agree about inclusive.
Also cruelty free, and fragrance/stink free, especially lipstick, but also anything on the face. Deal breaker.
Since we are in it for the long haul, more mask-proof makeup! Even the dry-down liquid lipsticks smudge and smear. Face makeup also transfers from my nose and cheeks. Then again, I have super high cheekbones and a Roman nose, soooš¤
Also, someone PLEASE bring back either Essence Midnight In Paris Gel Liner or the OG KVD formula for the Tattoo Liner!
I’d like to see every major new lipstick launch include at least one fun, well-formulated “fantasy” color. Give me more good green, purple, blue, black, grey lipsticks.
I’d also like to agree with everyone who has asked for more inclusivity.
And I’d like to see more permanent or at least semi-permanent launches. Give me something I can use, love, and recommend to my friends months down the road.
I of course want to see real diversity in shade ranges. We’re entering 2022 and the lack of a true diverse shade range in many brands is simply appalling. Last I checked, people of color had green money too, and it all spends the same. So market to EVERYONE. Not just pasty white folks such as myself.
But equally important is I expect companies to begin using less plastic. Just stop. Plastic pollution is out of control, and corporations need to be the ones held accountable, not you and I the average consumer. We already do what we can to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Companies MUST do more as well. Less plastic, more biodegradable packaging. The planet NEEDS this.
Your points about the environmental impact of packaging are so well put. I would like to see mirrors made optional and an alternative to pumps that cannot be recycled.
I would definitely like to see more desaturatted neutral palettes, like the ones Lorac is putting out, with not a pink, red or orange in sight – no matte blacks or white shades either!
Secondly I would like to see some more genuinely russet shaded lipsticks in creamy, hydrating formulas – and less lipglosses.
Thirdly – and I’m looking at you CP – waay fewer releases of the same old shades.
Iād love it if Pat McGrath did some bronzers with warm and cool undertones. And more brands do a return to sheer lipsticks, not balms but lipstick.
Yes! Cruelty-free and unscented items are at the top of my wish list.
I agree with all the comments about diversity and inclusivity, and using less plastic it is almost 2022! Also smaller permanent collections done well, we don’t need continuous new eyeshadow/blush/highlighter etc spewing out constantly never ending week after week. Reign it in, take a breath and a break!
Would like to see less ColourPop and more of everything else!
A lot more satin everything!
I agree with everyone in regards of diversity and inclusiveness.
Less LE’s and more work on the permanent range.
No more PET glitter.
Iām desperate for more satin finish eye shadows! Any good recommendations for these?
