- Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: MAC Hypnotizing Holiday Collection, Urban Decay x Marvels Eternals Collection
- Weekend plans: Hoping to knock out a fair amount of reviews today (Friday), and then do some lipstick swatches on Saturday. I’d like to mostly rest my hands on Sunday, though!
- What’s your favorite part about autumn?: It used to be the return of pumpkin spice lattes, though I make my coffee at home now so I don’t drink much Starbucks (maybe a few times a year, really!). Now, cooler temperatures, spending Thanksgiving with my family and having my mom’s cooking.

Purchases: I lucked out big time with real bargains at Winners: another bottle of Becca Backlight Priming Filter (so I have 2 unopened backups now); Becca Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector in Rose Quartz (but it’s so different than the ones I’ve seen reviewed here or on MUA- it has 3 flowers – Korean roses or something – pressed into the surface and it’s much lighter than the versions I’ve seen here at Temptalia; I also got 3 Becca Minis – also Rose Quartz as well as Vanilla Quartz and Champagne Pop…I think I’ll use those as stoking stuffers; also 3 bottles of OPI She the Female nail polish (stocking stuffers also) and some Pecksniff’s men’s shower gel in the most wonderful scent (to give my younger son as part of his Xmas gifts). There might be more stuff but I can’t think of it now…
Weekend plans: It’s Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and I’ve got several people coming to stay so getting the house ready for that and baking (made a ginger spice cake yesterday and as soon as I finish reading and posting here I’m making a pumpkin cheesecake) as well as making some appetizers. We’ve ordered in the rest of the Thanksgiving meal because it’s also my birthday on Tuesday and every year on or around my birthday, I end up working my backside off making Thanksgiving dinner for everyone. So this year, I decided to let a local business that offers this service do the bulk of the work.
Favourite part about autumn: Everything – the cooler temps/end of “Humidex” and high humidity and heat; the advent of sweater weather, pumpkin spice lattes, Shalimar perfume, my birthday, “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” – just that lovely smell in the air of dry leaves and cool breezes.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very happy birthday!
Thank you for the good wishes, Rachel. I hope you can have a good rest after your travels!
Thanks! So do I. Lol. This trip has been more difficult than expected, but everything is ok now. I love to travel, but this was just too close to our last trip.
Happy thanksgiving! I forgot to mention changing out cold weather perfumes- my favorite for when it starts getting cooler is Marni! A fun bonus 🙂
Happy Birthday! I know you’re a Jicky fan, which makes us old Guerlain stans. But I’m L’Heure Bleue and Mitsouko, bec my mgm wore Shalimar, which does not give it the best associations, lol. Iirc, my mum wore Apres L’Ondee for Guerlain.
I literally just met a baby baby baby Golden Retriever, but she’s nowhere nearly as cute or as smart as Sir Winston. Happy Thanksgiving, worker bee!
Happy Birthday for Tuesday Mariella and I think it’s a wonderful idea to have the local businesses cater for Thanksgiving. Usually I have done the same – worked like a slave in the kitchen to create the family event from appetizers to dessert, plus all the cleaning up afterwards.
I think you are the Cheesecake Queen Mariella , you make so many varieties of them- I am very partial to cheesecake myself and that Pumpkin one does sound interesting. I am sure that the it will turn out well.
I hope that your adult children and the rest of your family have a wonderful time and that you get some lovely birthday goodies.
Happy birthday and happy Thanksgiving, Mariella.
I hope you’ll have a marvelous Thanksgiving! You are doing the right thing, ordering the meal. I’m sure it’ll be yummy!
A very Happy Birthday!
I love Shalimar, but think they’ve changed it a bit. Have you noticed that or is it a EU thing.
When I read posts here I sometime think I’ve found long lost sisters, it’s so much fun, “knowing” people from all over with a healthy interest in makeup!
Happy Thanksgiving and happy birthday, Mariella! I hope the new Thanksgiving tradition to bring in the main dishes helps you enjoy your birthday more fully!
ANY NEW PURCHASES?
NYX Ultimate Utopia 16-pan Shadow Palette.
WEEKEND PLANS? Saturday we fly home from NOLA, and we’ll have our son’s friend with us do she can visit Oregon. Sunday we’ll recover from flying all day.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT AUTUMN? The cooler weather, wearing sweaters, Halloween.
Peeked at the palettes that you and Celesta got. I thought the initial/‘title page’ NYX presentation was terrific. Choose a model, including varied ethnicities and men, then click on a circle representing a shade, and it photoshops onto the model as a one and done. I’m not going to bitch about the shade accuracy, just compliment them on really trying and paying attention to how varied the m/u community is. Go NYX!
They are really good with representation, for sure.
How lovely that your son’s friend is flying back with you to see your gorgeous state. It must be fantastic for him to have his best friend with him in person.
I can see that NYX palette, which I have just looked up, working beautifully on you.
Dogs do love doorstops!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Accidentally bought the waterproof version of my favorite Rimmel mascara and didn’t save the receipt, so now I’m stuck with it. 🙁
Weekend plans: Relaxing from a really stressful week at work, Zoom happy hour with friends, working on my songs, and my weekly diet cheat.
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: Summer is over! Also, fall clothes, especially boots. And Halloween (decorations, scary movies, and little kids in cute costumes).
LOL. Everything is new and exciting as a puppy!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
I ordered a replacement for my The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner today.
Weekend plans:
It’s Thanksgiving here, so we have a long weekend. It will be a quiet one but we still do all the classics; vegetarian turkey+gravy, mashed potatoes, roasted veg and stuffing along with pumpkin pie.
Favorite part about autumn:
I’m really not a fan of autumn, because I know winter is coming 🙁 Even though our winters are mild, we get a lot of rain.
The dogs hate the cooler weather because they have to wear clothing and they far prefer naked spring and summer. Prepping them for morning walks in the rain is an effort.
I suppose the nesting (which we’ve already been doing for 18-months) and foods like soups and chili are a plus, but Autumn is a hard sell for me.
I’m with you on autumn… but happy thanksgiving! I hope you have a great time!
Happy Thanksgiving.
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
My dog only have to use clothes when it’s raining, mostly because I don’t want to spend a long time towel drying him and brush away tons of sand. He also wears reflective clothes when it’s dark outside. He is black so invisible in the dark. He hates clothes, taking one step a minute when I call him to go for walks. He doesn’t mind as soon as we are out of the door though.
What kind of dogs do you have? Mine is a black standard schnauzer. He used to have a kid brother a black and silver miniature schnauzer who passed away in May, he also didn’t like clothes.
Happy Thanksgiving, DVa!
Recent Purchases: I did purchase the Beauty Bay Age Of Opulence palette and the Milani Baked Blush in Petal Primavera, since it has that same BEAUTIFUL reformulation as Luminoso.
Rediscoveries: Milani Baked Blush in Petal Primavera and ND Triochrome palette. I think Triochrome is my favorite ND palette ans possibly my favorite palette overall?
Weekend plans: We’re heading to Kings Island for some early Halloween fun!
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: Mostly the changing leaves and cooler weather. And sweaters and fall colors. Not a fan of the PSL and though.
Recent Rediscoveries: I am finally starting to play a little bit more with makeup again and I love my Pat McGrath lip gloss, particularly divine rose! It’s just so pretty and feels right for the season.
Weekend plans: spending time with my sister and maybe getting my son a Halloween costume 🙂
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: As long as I’m taking my vitamin D… the cooler temperatures outside can be a welcome relief. And I like changing out my warm weather clothes for the cold ones I haven’t seen in a while! But I mostly just have to get through it until the Christmas season, haha!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new
Weekend plans: After suddenly deciding to not wait and cut my hair last Sunday (I was lucky to find a spot), this weekend is kind of free. My Saturday hike is on the verge of being cancelled, because of incoming brain, so it will be just neighborhood walks between rain showers. I might go to the Van Gogh immersive exhibition nearby.
What’s your favorite part about autumn?:
Wearing all the clothes I can’t wear in the California summer because it’s too hot. I can’t wait to wear my coats, my sweaters… sweat less when I wear my boots and leather pants (because honestly, I wear them year round).
I love the selection of pumpkin and squashes, especially the quirky ones. I cook with pumpkin and winter squashes year round, autumn it’s just the season they are cheap and easy to find. Fun fact, I love pumpkin, but I hate pumpkin spice (I’m ok with cinnamon and like nutmeg in savory dishes, but all spice, ginger and clover taste bad to me, and the combination even worse).
I love the nature in autumn, fallen leaves in a cute park or a silent trail.
One of my favorite things about autumn was also visiting my family back in Europe, celebrating the birthdays of my brother and grandfather (they are 1 week apart)… but last year it didn’t happen. And with the death count increasing in my home country recently, I think this fall is off the charts also.
Winnie 💙❗
Purchases/rediscoveries: I placed an order with ColourPop last Saturday (still haven’t received) for Sonic Bloom Palette, Grunge Girl lip pencil and Alt Rock Cream Lip Stain. Hope to get them soon, since I’m really beginning to feel some strong fall vibes running through me.
Weekend plans: Rest. Like seriously. Today, I just underwent an hour long abdominal MRI with contrast. That wore me out. Plus, on top of that ordeal, last night my tooth that got filled in May or June, BROKE while I was eating my very last nite of pork chop! Not the filling, but a chunk of enamel from the other side. That filling always felt a bit “off”. Like it was putting pressure on what was left of the tooth? So weird, though. Had to run out to Walgreen’s last night and buy Temperin Max to patch it up and soften the very sharp edge as it was cutting into my tongue.
What do you enjoy most about autumn? Cooler temps! Getting to wear sweaters! Fun hot drinks like cocoa, chai tea, etc. I so miss watching the leaves change color from back home in New Jersey, plus the fresh apple cider and the smell of fireplaces burning.
No one should have to go through an MRI and s broken tooth. I hope you can get the tooth filled ASAP.
Rachel- yeah, that was a fairly miserable 12 hours! I’m calling the dental clinic on Monday. Going to see if they have any options open as far as appointments go, a more experienced dentist and payment arrangements. This never ought to have happened in the first place, so perhaps a free repair? We’ll see.
The only time(s) I have ever broken a tooth it has been on pork – especially the naughty crackling, so I really do sympathise with you Nancy and there is nothing worse than a sharp edge to it that will irritate your tongue. I hope you can get it patched up quickly.
I have never had an MRI with contrast, but it sounds pretty gruelling to me. My twin sister has had a few of these procedures because of her tummy troubles and she reckons that she wants to buy a few dress items as a reward for undergoing the procedures.
I hope you can rest this afternoon and you will feel better tomorrow.
Genevieve – this was the first time in many years that I bought non-boneless pork chops. And only due to the obscene prices for meat here that just keep going up, up, up. Well, that was stupid of me, it would seem!
Yes, that MRI was very gruelling and truly exhausting. But I’m glad it’s finally over with. Now to deal with the possible results and whether they’re treatable.
The MRI sounds exhausting! I hope it’s nothing serious!
The tooth breaking off sounds traumatic to me. I’ve not had that happening, but have had to have old fillings replaced, and I press and grind my teeth while sleeping, so I sometime woke up chewing a bit of enamel. Yuck! Now I have a whatever it’s called that I use during the night, but sometime it makes me gag, and I can wake up holding it in my hand. Much good it does there. 😀
Helene, it really was exhausting! When I got home, I had a little bit of yogurt, wrote this comment and I think maybe another, then fell asleep for FOUR whole hours.
A bite-guard! I think I might get one of those, too. My bottom molars are all messed up and need some extra protection. The gagging doesn’t sound so fun, though!
Bite-guard! Thanks,
I used to wake up with horrid headaches almost every day, after I got the bite-guard I hardly ever have any headaches.
I get gag reflexed very easily, so it may not happen to you at all.
Do rest after the MRI ordeal.
I’ve only had one on one of my ankles. My son had one done on one of his knees, but both were over in minutes.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: MAC Flat Out Fabulous, it does make me feel Fab!
Weekend plans: I’ll be tidying up the house because I’ve been suuuper lazy and using a foot injury as an excuse! I’ve decided it stops tomorrow…ish… No major plans for Sunday -perfect!- but, fingers crossed, my upstairs neighbours fly the whole family on their unicorn to Siberia for the day so that I can check out Temptalia’s Discord in peace and set up an account here!
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: I love those days when 1) the temperature is still mild enough to be able to enjoy being out and about and not too cold yet to have to wear heavy clothes 2) rain still feels like a foreign concept “rain what? who?” 3) colds are yet to come 4) Pre-Covid: cheapest time to travel!
I see most of you are in “holiday mode” so Happy Thanksgiving to all, Happy Halloween and Happy B-Day to Mariella (here’s to you getting an utterly fab makeup palette)!
We’re almost done with Covid and the best is yet to come! Let’s be grateful for that, for vaccines, for pretty lipstick and for Christine who goes through the trouble of testing and reviewing makeup so that the rest of us can be wiser with money and only spend it on *nice* and *shiny* things that’ll make us *happy*!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Found out about Mel Thompson’s passing a week late, and so I’ve been using my Tiny Marvels palette. Been pretty bummed about it. I’ve ceased watching almost every beauty guru on YT – but not Mel. She was special and I’m gonna miss her content.
Palette’s nice. Lots of unique colors and the wonderful Sydney Grace formula.
Weekend plans: Nails. Time for a fresh set!
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: Oh, everything! I abhor summer, and I welcome the cool weather, the clouds, the rain, the falling leaves, the scents, the baking, the pumpkin spice in everything (although! I only allow myself to enjoy pumpkin spice for three months, so I don’t overdo it). I feel myself coming to life each autumn, and it’s invigorating.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Ilia Balmy Tint in Heartbeats
Weekend plans: Organizing my dresser. Recovering from my cold.
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: The leaves changing colors.
It’s often the simplest of toys that amuses them most! Winston is such a cute puppy.
Recent Purchases: Nada
Rediscoveries: Huda Beauty Smoky Obsessions.
Weekend Plans: We are still in fairly deep lockdown here and are still doing the homeschooling, which is very tricky as Olivia misses her friends and is not always happy to complete the workload without complaint. Keeping Lachlan amused and the baby out of the way of the computer cables is a challenge.
We can travel about 15 km, so more parks and playgrounds are available to us, but the delta figures here are high. All my family are fully vaccinated now, so we are awaiting what the next steps will be.
My plans include a bit of a drive up into the local hills, some cleaning and laundry and just more of the same.
What do I like about autumn: I love everything about autumn – the cooler nights, the sunny but not hot days. The chance to wear my autumn/winter wardrobe that I love the best.
I look forward to cooking soups and winterish fare. And definitely a relief from the heat.
My purchases: Gucci des yeux floral eyeshadow palette which is stunningly beautiful in packaging (which is why I bought it…reminds me of something my grandmother had) and the shadows are surprisingly good. I’ll never wear the baby blue. The mattes are creamy and bendable. The stains are nice. The purple shimmer is probably the worst. There is one peachy shimmer which is more of a duoshade topper. And there is a pewter shimmer that is just gorgeous.
Weekend plans: Groceries and visit mom in the nursing home.
Autumn: The colors of the leaves in Northern Michigan.
Mattes are blendable, not bendable. Satins are nice…not stains. C’mon spellchecker.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Purchased the Revolution x Simpsons cheek palette. It is really fun! Rediscovered a few great lipsticks inc. Clinique Bare Pop and L’Oreal Glossy Fawn. (I put on lipstick at my desk at work, so I do wear it a little bit in spite of still masking the majority of the time.)
Weekend plans: Sorting some things/organizing, recording the podcast w/ my husband, reading.
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: Everything! I especially love the weather and seeing the leaves turn, and I like when it gets dark earlier.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: My Sephora and Makeup Revolution x DC orders came in this week, but when I opened the PMG Celestial Odyssey palette, Citrine Envy had exploded in the palette, which I found out the hard way by getting green glitter all over my arms and chest! It took me 7 baby wipes, 2 makeup remover wipes, and 1 dry paper towel to get clean-I counted. Today I returned it at my local Sephora, where one of their super-sweet SAs used a gift card to order me a new one. I also bought a Charlotte Tilbury Stoned Rose lipstick while I was there.
Weekend plans: Today was my normal Friday off, so see above. Work all day and grocery run tomorrow, not sure about Sunday, off again Monday because the library system I work for is closing for Indigenous People’s Day.
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: Falling leaves, especially the red ones. Either that or the exit of the heat.
Winston! How cute is he!?!?!?
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
On the way to me, I hope, two orders, one from CP, the other from PmG. I had decided NOT to buy the new big palette from PmG, but changed my mind, thinking that it would be a palette I’d actually use from her.
I’ve mentioned a few times me waiting for ND Retro and Glam. I e-mailed ND Wednesday as it was a couple of weeks since they should have arrived. Guess what! Lost in transit or by Fed Ex. That makes three lost orders since August. I’m really annoyed. I’m also annoyed that they didn’t offer to replace, just sent a refund.
Rediscoveries, no, nothing.
Weekend plans:
Nothing really, I might do a bit of gardening, pruning the roses or something.
What’s your favorite part about autumn?
Pumpkin Spice Latte, the colours, the cool, crisp sunny days but those are few. I’m not really an autumn person. It gets dark early, the days get so short, it rains a lot and then comes winter. Hibernating is the thing to do after they stop serving the pumpkin lattes.
So a bit of mixed feelings there.
That is so, so awful that you lost your palettes from ND and a bit bad on their part not to send another – can you purchase from Beautylish where you live? I have found that they are really reliable and their products arrive for me and I live on the other side of the world here in Aus.
Glam is such a fabulous palette and it does work with lots of others in my stash too.
Could you have a bit of a conversation with Fed Ex about losing your parcels?
I think you are going to really enjoy PMG’s newest palette – it is gorgeous.
And yes, it is lovely to talk to people from all over the world about our love of makeup!
I can buy from Beautylish. The reason I ordered from the ND site was the buy the two palettes at a reduced cost.
I’m most annoyed as it was the third lot order in two months and I’ve neve had anything getting lost in transit before.
Maybe they, or another retailer will have some nice bargains on the Black Friday sale.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Touch of Glam Twisted Vivids 2 collection!
Weekend plans: My brother is coming over and the three of us are going to make up a bunch of hors d’oeuvres and feast!
What’s your favorite part about autumn?: Cooler, more comfortable weather and the ability to wear clothes I like more (full length leggings, more layers).
