Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Lipsticks Swatches
Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to have “high-impact long lasting color with a satin finish” and comes in 30 shades. This is not that new of a formula, but I didn’t have time to swatch and review when it debuted… and now I do, so here are swatches!
Looking these over, the jury is completely out for me. Because, while the reds and most of the richer shades do look rather good, those are shades already well represented within my personal stash. The lighter shades shown above just seem to be missing something. In fact, I’d even dare to say that they look “cheap”.
So many of these look so similar to each other!
For a range of 30 lipsticks, it seems to be heavy on the cool/fuchsia pink and neutral red tones and light on the true nudes, mauve or rose tones and I don’t see anything even resembling coral here.
I mean, they look fine but there’s nothing really wowing me here unfortunately 😐
I agree totally with you!!!
I think there is a lot of repitition of the same kind of shades and colours here – re pinks and reds, but Brun Natural looks nice to me.
Oddly, I don’t see a single shade that’s neutral enough for my preferred MLBB look (my perfect color is the old NARS Rosecliff, but there are lots of duplicates for this shade, a neutral-cool, light-to-medium mauve-toned nude). It’s rare that there’s not a single shade that appeals, especially from Laura Mercier, which seems to specialize in neutral nudes (meaning if you look at the caviar sticks, there aren’t so many bright saturated colors represented; this seems the opposite).
