What draws you in first: the packaging or the color story?

The color story for sure! I can feel better or worse based on packaging, but I really don’t care that much about it as long as it’s functional!

The color scheme is the first think that captures my attention, but this is somewhat resulting from the fact I like practical boring classic packaging. 😅
The shade of a lipstick or a blush, the colors in a palette are definitely the thing that entice me to consider a product. But if the packaging doesn’t match my standard, color in itself won’t make me buy it.

Ideally, the selection of products, the color story, and the packaging should all work together to form a cohesive collection. That being said, if the the colors don’t appeal, that would be a non-starter. I’ve seen some beautiful collections but, because the colors wouldn’t suit me, I let them pass.

Hmm…it can be both? I do pay particular attention to certain brands bc I like the typical packaging and am already familiar with the formula. For example, slim magnetic palettes with removable pans I can appreciate from Colourpop and Viseart . For other brands, the color story would have to draw me in first, then depending on the packaging, can be a deal maker/breaker. I’m done with clunky palettes.

If I read this as the colour of the packaging vs. the design of the packaging?
Colour.
I’m not partial to certain colours, or more specifically jewel tones, in any aspect of my life, so a brand’s colours can deter me as a whole, but individual pieces may still make it into my collection if I love the product or it’s received rave reviews.

If I read this as the colour story of the makeup (lipstick, palette…) vs overall packaging?
Colour story, 99% of the time.

Mostly the color story. Once in a while I am excited more about the packaging and can get sucked in and hope the color story is a good one.
