When was the last time you went through your stash (to organize or to declutter)? How did it go?
Two months ago, I made my mother-in-law and brother-in-law, along with my husband, help me sort through six or so plastic bins full of makeup! It went well, since I only kept a bin’s worth and the rest was set aside to donate/give to family/friends or recycle (due to the pandemic, all cream/liquids were recycled).
I decluttered towards the end of last month and went through makeup and skincare. I ended up taking some lip colors to MAC for Back to MAC and I tossed out any opened and unfinished skincare items.
I want to go through my makeup once again to see whether I might want to sell some items. I am also preparing some items to give to a friend.
I go through my stash at the end of each quarter. My little crates are all separated by type, and I keep the product that I bought the current year in a separate crate, and add them into my stash as I finish like products. At the end of the year the rest goes in with its older cousins.
I went through all of my makeup when one of the little organizers I use snapped in half… I had it for 13 years, so it was pretty brittle. I purchased a larger Sterilite container to put store some of my palettes and went through everything in the process. It is nice not having so much stuff on my vanity and being able to reach into a drawer when I want something more specific that isn’t already in my vanity. It will also let me know if I should declutter some things if I go a long time without using them or even thinking about them.
I go through my stash every 3 months (or so) and then one big declutter (including clothes and jewelry and books) the day after Thanksgiving.
I really wish I had an answer, but I honestly have no idea whatsoever!
I declutter constantly. I belong to an online “use up your makeup” group and as I finish things or pan something, I think about the products I would use next and at that point, I decide whether I actually want to use them. I set aside the decluttered products until I have the patience to clean out the packaging for recycling since as of now, there is nothing suitable for Project Beauty Share. I don’t organize on a regular basis. I am not motivated until it becomes hard to find things.
I did a major destash a little over a year ago when I did my depotting project! I donated a good size package to project beauty share, sent a large z-palette full of depotted eyeshadows to a friend, and threw away a decent size pile of old stuff that had gone off.
Two weeks ago – I decluttered and reorganised my dresser so now I have more space, muahahahahahaha! It was really only because I broke a drawer runner that desperately needed fixing so I had to pull everything out to remove the actual drawer. Then 3 days later, one of my sisters rang and said her gym bag with all her makeup and brushes had been stolen from her car and I was like, why don’t you come over… 😉
This year has been a year of decluttering. I start at a high level of what easily can go. Then over time continue to refine, refine, refine… until I get my various collections at an optimal level.
Right now I am taking a hard look at my brush collection and what can go.
I recently decluttered like last weekend! I am sending a ton of eye shadow palettes to my younger cousin and a friend.
Same here Christine …
About 6 weeks ago I did a deep and honest edit on stash and if I never or only swatched it even if it was high end , I cleaned it and gave it away or recycled it.
Then I reorganized everything in see through makeup pouches and left it there .
Now I feel I should go back in again and revisit it .I don’t know if it’s that my taste has changed or I’m dialing my taste / style vibe in more I’m becoming more discerning with my keepers and new buys.
2019 I did a major declutter and I haven’t really added much since. My lipsticks need a declutter and it is on my todo list.
I am about to do a major de-stash of older eye palettes and lipsticks. I am prepared to be ruthless. Some of my stuff is getting quite old and well and truly past their use by date. I will let you know…
Please teach me how to be ruthless in decluttering lipsticks! I periodically go through mine, setting aside ones that I plan to toss. But then, I pull them back in because I love the colors (even though I have 15 near-perfect dues for each one)!
I did a very brutal declutter on both ends of my recent move. I have a fairly large collection, and plenty of space to store it. Once my space for a specific type of product gets full I have to make room for new stuff. To add additional storage space for more makeup in my life would be just to excessive for me personally, lol. How much makeup can one lady need? No really, It’s embarrassing.
I did a massive de-clutter while everything was shut down this spring/summer. I got rid of tons of stuff but I feel like I need to do it again.
It’s an ongoing thing. I started culling all the samples I’ve collected IPSY boxes and the like and getting the good ones ready for donation. After those ship out, I’m starting in on my collection proper.
This reminds me of how I make my boyfriend dry my brushes as I clean them heehee
