Survey Says... December 2nd, 2020
Happy Wednesday! Here's this week's survey, which you can copy and paste and share as a comment.
- Your skin tone/coloring:
- Your favorite feature to emphasize?
- Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay?
- Winter skincare savior?
Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name (blue-green eyes, dark hair)
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Mostly eyes because mine really stand out with makeup. I have a neutral olive medium to medium-tan skintone, but light eyes. They need help to pop against my un-pale skintone. Just yesterday, I had a MAC SA do a match on my winter color. I was quite shocked at the results! NW35 in Pro Longwear Waterproof foundation!
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Sometimes, yeah, I will! Typically it’s a a more neutral, but dark, dramatic eye look with a bright or bold lip color.
Winter skincare savior? Easy! For nighttime face and neck, Drunk Elephant Protini Peptide. For daytime, FAB Ultra Repair moisturizer in the giant tub. Also, rosehip oil works wonders to get rid of any flakiness or dullness.
Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Eyes
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Yay
Winter skincare savior? Hand creams. I get really dry hands and eczema patches on my thumbs.
Your skin tone/coloring: under name
Your favorite feature to emphasize? For me it rotates; I feel it is connected to mastery (or updating things). It was eyes, then complexion, then hair etc etc
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? nay; I will pick one or the other
Winter skincare savior? Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.
Your skin tone/coloring: Below my name
Your favorite feature to emphasize? My eyes, always
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Bold eyes certainly. Bold lips, never ever. I hate my lips
Winter skincare savior? A humidifier at night in my bedroom is the most important thing for me. I also love products containing centella asiatica, especially Cosrx Balancium Cream. And ironically, I am finding that masks protect me from windburn.
I hear so many good opinions about humidifier, I am so curious to try one… I might eventually cave in.
With the weather getting colder, I definitely felt also the benefit of wearing a mask. No windburn, and sore nose and troat after runs!
Ana Maria, a humidifier has real health benefits too. Usually, when my nose and throat dry out, that’s when a cold seems to set in but with a humidifier, this doesn’t happen and I also sleep better. The ones we have (we have one going in the family room too) have a little chamber with something almost like blotter paper for adding essential oils, if you wish. It’s a nice extra feature but a humidifier – especially a cool spray one – is a fantastic little addition.
Check out Purito if you want another layer of centella. I especially like Purito centella green level calming toner. It’s actually more of an essence.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Eyes
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Nay
Winter skincare savior? La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+M
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+M would definitely be in my top 10 list. La Roche-Posay products are amazing, they need more hype!
Totes! I was using DML Forte as my final step in my night routine. Then I found this. Sooo much better with no petrolatum stink and no weird spots. I even use it on my feet as a top sealer also at night. I bought two 400 ml bottles of the stuff.
I love their whole Toleriane line.. I’ve recently discovered the cleanser, bought a the big one with the pump, and I love I can buy LPR from Amazon.
I’m with you.
Medium – neutral
Fav. feature to emphasize- Eyes
Bold lips and eyes on you – Big yes.
Winter skincare savior – I live in South Florida, no winter. My skin is so much better and less dry, since moving here from NYC.
Your skin tone/coloring: light, cool
Your favorite feature to emphasize? probably my eyes
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Yay – I don’t “do” a nude lip and I think that any eye look I do (bold or otherwise) looks best balanced with an “un-nude” lip.
Winter skincare savior? Ombra Melkfett Cream (no longer available but I’ve got 3/4 of a tub left) or Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Multi Purpose Ointment; both are water free and are excellent for freezing cold winter days out of doors.
Christine, I keep meaning to ask – again and again – and always forget. I keep trying to recommend Nars Voyageur Suede palette in reply to several of the requests for recommendations (for neutral palettes, best palettes for beginners, etc.) and I’m never able to recommend it. I type in the recommendation and click the “keep my recommendation as is” and it never appears. This is such a wonderful little palette that I really enjoy using and I would love to be able to recommend it to others but no luck. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Mariella,
It’s because I have to go through and manually add the product to our database, and I am, unfortunately, very behind – by about 4,000, so until I add it, it is still a manual input. I’m so sorry!
I just added that palette now – it should come up in the future! Again, I’m so sorry – totally my fault for not being able to get it done in a more timely manner.
Gosh, Christine, no need to apologize. I just couldn’t understand why, even if I typed in a name and hit the “keep my submission as is” it wouldn’t register/appear. I thought that option meant anyone’s recommendation would turn up (even if there wasn’t a photo, obviously) but it never seemed to work so I wondered if I was missing some step or something.
Do you have that palette, Christine? NARS is such a mixed bag of great and grotty shadows and I think this little quad is one of the “greats” but not many people seem to know about it, it seems.
Hi Mariella!
When you can’t find it in the search box, that likely means it doesn’t exist, but we allow users to write-in submissions, but since it doesn’t exist, there’s nothing on our end that would connect it to data to show. I have to add the specific product into the database, e.g. the palette name, shades in it, ingredients, description, price, etc. and then update the submission to connect with the product added to the database! Adding in products is one of the lower priority items on my list (writing reviews is highest priority, and since I am… usually very behind, I’m not consistent with adding in product submissions!).
I’m not sure if I purchased it or not! I do remember that there was some backlash with respect to quantity/price, though.
Christine, I found mine at Winners (part of the Marshalls chain) for about 1/3 the price is was selling for at Sephora (I’d seen it 2 or 3 days earlier so was really surprised to see one turn up at a discounter) and because I had seen it – almost bought it, in fact – I was thrilled and grabbed it!
Glad you got it on discount, especially since it’s one you’ve wanted to recommend in the end!
That would be a great name for a Nars biography ‘the great and the grotty.’ That word is sooo Fawlty Towers!
Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones
Your favorite feature to emphasize? It’s hard to pick – but probably my skin. I have very few wrinkles for someone of my age because I take good care of it and always use sunscreen summer or winter.
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Definitly Yay! I really like to have bold eyes and lipstick.
Winter skincare savior? Always a facial oil – either argon, hemp or chia seed. And a really good night time moisturiser. At the moment I am using a Skin Chemist night time ceramide moisturiser and it is doing the trick for my skin.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light-medium with warm yellow undertones, dark brown hair and eyes
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Eyes, I look odd if my eyes aren’t done, very washed up.
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Yay!
Winter skincare savior? Only one? If I would be to choose just one product it would be pure squalane oil, because I can use it face, body and hair. But I need multiple saviors…
Skin tone / coloring ? Medium tan that leans neutral ./ warm.hydration
Favorite feature to emphasize ? ..probably eyes especially with the mask.
Bold eye / lips ..yay ! I normally wear a warm palette on my eyes so I do like to have fun with my lip stick..
Fav winter skin hydration? When I’m really dry I discovered the best oil for my skin is Cacay oil .I mix it with something like Vichy 89 gel and my skin just feels hydrated and plumped up.
Your skin tone/coloring: Above by my name, dark brown hair with a little highlights left in my hair, hazel eyes
Your favorite feature to emphasize? eyes
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? yay
Winter skincare savior? my humidifier and I am always moisturizing my skin all over my body, I like to try new products so I can’t name just one.
Your skin tone/coloring: light, MAC 20
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Eyes
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Nay
Winter skincare savior? Aquaphor, Vaseline and moisturizer
Your skin tone/coloring: Pale-yellow, dark hair, blue eyes
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Right now it is all about eyes, obvi, but in general a bold lip is my go-to “emphasize one feature” kind of look. Otherwise, I like a balanced look most days where one feature doesn’t ovepower the rest.
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Yes, of course!
Winter skincare savior? L’Occitane shea butter body stuff, not sure yet what I will do when my face gets truly winter dry. We moved to a completely different kind of climate in the spring, so I just do not know the misery winter will put me through yet.
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Depends on the look, although I do tend to do the most with my eyes
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Yay! Sometimes separately, sometimes together, I’m open to all different kinds of looks
Winter skincare savior? I’m in California and not New York this year for winter, but I still find myself using my hand creams and lip balm throughout the day to keep my skin hydrated
Your skin tone/coloring: pale, cool skin (foundation matches: Fenty Pro Filt’r 110, Urban Decay All Nighter 2.5, NARS Natural Radiant Longwear 2.0 Mont Blanc, Kevyn Aucoin The Etherealist Light EF 02, L’Oreal True Match C3 Creamy Natural), gray eyes, brown hair with red highlights and scattered blonde/blue strands. My everyday base products are Fenty-Amber Match Stick as cheek contour and Pro Filt’r concealer and Soft Matte foundation in 110.
Your favorite feature to emphasize? Any. The particular feature depends on the look I’m doing.
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Yay, absolutely! I’ll do either or even both at the same time! In my experience, the best tips for doing bold eyes and bold lips at the same time are 1) make sure their colors are neither too matchy nor too clashing and 2) keep the cheeks neutral.
Winter skincare savior? I’m not really committed to any one particular product-I just use my regular Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture face moisturizer in my usual skincare routine and I’ll use any body lotion I like or tolerate the scent of.
Your skin tone/coloring: above with freckles, green/gray/blue eyes, warm brown hair.
Your favorite feature to emphasize? My eyes.
Bold lips and eyes on you, yay or nay? Lately, I can only wear a bold lip for a few minutes before taking it off for lip balm, lol. But I’m not against a bold eye and lip!
Winter skincare savior? Working Hands hand lotion and lip balm.
