Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nada. I am on the hunt for art for our kitchen and living room, so that has occupied the shopping part of my brain I guess. I bought some craft supplies though, and I am excited to get them!

Weekend plans: setting up our bedroom, possibly going to the drive in to watch The Empire Strikes Back with my brother & nephew, moving the rest of our stuff out of storage on Sunday. We are crossing our fingers that our liquor collection has held up in the 3 months it has been stored. Pray for my rum, guys!

What was the last song you had on repeat?: The new Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion song. I don’t listen to pop music, but when big, trendy songs like that come out I do make a point to listen to them. It is a whole lot!! Megan is a new spokesperson for Revlon though, and I think Cardi is pretty neat as a person, so I was mildly interested.

Recent Purchases: theBalm Will Powder Blush Quad, Tarte Sea Glass Liquid Eyeshadow in Night Dive, Lethal Cosmetics After Dark palette and my hubby got me the Viseart Dark Edit palette for a (super) early birthday present! Yeah, I did some retail therapy this last week.

Rediscoveries: My Missha M BB Cream (always rediscovering because it’s so good!), Hourglass Ambient Light Ghost Unlocked palette

Weekend plans: Trying to stay sane… social distancing is one thing, quarantine is something totally different. It’s even more isolating because even the most mundane things that kept me sane I can’t do for another week. We are all holding up okay, though, my son has had a slight fever and cold symptoms this week. Waiting for our coronavirus antibodies test results to come in.

What was the last song you had on repeat?: Cardigan by Taylor Swift… not even a Taylor Swift fan, but I like her new album.

I so understand about the sanity issue….we are in Stage 4 and cannot even take the load off my son and daughter in law with respect to babysitting their 6 and 4 year old.
Here is something to make you laugh Celesta (and maybe you can relate to this too):
Scenario: Olivia is having a zoom meeting with her classroom teacher with mummy beside in her bedroom (now super tidy).
Lachlan is left to his own devices whilst this is going on – so what does he do?
He finds the yummy special biscuits that mum and dad have been saving for their evening snack when watching a movie, taken the biccies plus the peanut butter jar, a spoon and the 100’s and 1000’s sprinkle container to his bedroom.
He sits on his bed with the biscuits, dipped into the peanut butter jar and given a libel sprinkling of 100’s and 1000’s and munches away. He dutifully takes the plate back to the kitchen….
Anika only found out what was happening when she put him to bed and found the biccy packet and stack of sprinkles in his bed…..

Genevieve Avatar

Well they use to have a lock on the pantry door, but a year or so ago they decided they didn’t need one anymore…but now I think they might put it back on again.
It’s a tough day when your little one can open the fridge and help themselves and it’s interesting what they will reach for…

Mellan: Lady, we don’t need to shake hands, we were introduced years ago!

Purchases/rediscoveries: Nothing. But! Yesterday I finally received a surprise a friend ordered for me back in APRIL. The seller was in Russia so I think it was held up in customs forever. But it is a cute pair of polymer clay earrings that look like real little green scarab beetles. My friend knows me so well <3 It's been a crazy work week so it was fun to get a long-awaited surprise (she told me to start looking for something in the mail back when she ordered it, ha ha).

Weekend plans: I've got my usual Sat and Sun online classes (dance and foam roller). Saturday afternoon we have a video chat planned with a couple of friends back in AZ. Otherwise I'm not sure. I don't think we'll really go anyplace except to grab some takeout tomorrow night. I'll probably read a lot as I'm in the final push to read the last 4 books I need in order to fill my entire Book Bingo card (deadline is Sept 8).

Last song I had on repeat: I don't like to listen to songs on repeat. But I do use the same songs every day for dance practice, sometimes. For most of July I was using "Redesign Your Logo" by Lemon Demon for a specific skill drill.

kjh Avatar

I envy your earrings. For you to envy: An ancient woman named Mrs Bernheimer ran an antique shop (Bernheimer’s Antique Arts) in Harvard Square late 60s and earlier. They had incredible Baltic Amber necklaces, Russian malachite boxes; you get the picture. I got a faience scarab made into a ring, that she got at an estate sale. Presumably, the faience scarab came from an Egyptian minor dig in the 40s, .not a pharaonic tomb or anything that it shouldn’t have been, but still! The clay piece was drilled through and mounted so it can swivel, though I have no idea why….

AJ Avatar

How cool! I have seen those swivel-style rings online — I think maybe it’s so you can rotate it to view the symbols inscribed on the bottom?

That shop sounds amazing. I haven’t been into an antique store in forever.

Lauren Avatar

Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’ve been picking up my Clinique Cheek Pops quite a bit, particularly the Ballerina and Melon shades.

Weekend plans: a socially distant check-in with family, cleaning, walks, reading, painting, etc.

Song on repeat: it’s not new, but “Skeletons” by Of Monsters And Men for some reason.

Ana Maria Avatar

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new cosmetics wise, I feel like products last me longer nowadays.

Weekend plans: Nothing out of the ordinary chores, groceries, calls, cooking, hike, reading. In the past weekends I tried to explore more urban areas where I live, at least looking at museums from outside.

What was the last song you had on repeat?: Nowadays I rarely listen music, I love my podcasts and audiobooks. If I listen music it’s either on the radio or during an workout video. But a couple a weeks ago Kimberly Clark put on YouTube his cover for George Michael’s Freedom! 99 and I have listened the original and cover more times that I want to admit. ?

Erica Avatar

My most recent purchase purchases have been lipsticks which is odd bc my state just issued a mandatory face mask policy so I’ll be wearing them at home lol. But I was at the outlet mall and picked up lipsticks from Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, Lancome, Shisedo, Urban Decay and YSL. Most were like 60-70% or more off so I went nuts. The Bobbi Brown was free bc the CCO had a buy one get one free for national lipstick day so I picked up an Estee Lauder lipstick and a Bobbi Brown lipstick. I also picked up Lancome Monseiur Big for super cheap. At Ulta I picked up a small blending brush from Morphe and the Milani Salt n Peppa Liner lipstick duo on clearance for the perfect 90s lip?

Rediscovery: I’ve been giving love to my single shadows. Been loving MAC Vex, Seedy Pearl, Omega, Coquette, Sumptous Olive, Shroom. Also been playing more with Natasha Denona Tropics and Safari palettes

Weekend plans: No plans other than I have a lot of laundry to do!

Song on repeat : I don’t have a particular song on repeat. I either have Pearl Jam, Queen or My Chemical Romance blasting in my car

AJ Avatar

Technopagan is what every other brand’s sparkly blue/purple lipstick wishes it could be when it grows up. Every other brand seems to put out some anemically transparent glittery thing barely suited to be a topcoat, and OCC gave us a delicious opaque in-your-face metallic cobalt. I miss them too!

Nancy T Avatar

Fine gentleman. I never had the chance to shake his paw, but wish I had. Nothing like holding a warm, toe-bean paw!

Purchases/rediscoveries: No purchases this week. But I did just receive an email notifying me that my Domestic Violence Awareness t-shirt has been re-sent to me. It has my name on the back along with those of many other survivors/victims, so it feels incredibly vindicating/validating to be included. It’s really an honor that many of the other women named may not have had the chance to live to see. An intensely sobering thought.
As for rediscoveries…I dug into my old (verrry old) MAC Pro Pan eyeshadows the other day and did a very smoked out crease using Soft Brown, Folie and Brown Script, with Arena on the mobile lid, Nylon on the tearducts and winged black liner, also used UD Torch to line both upper and lower inner lashlines.

Weekend plans: Zoom meeting tomorrow, lots of laundry, go for a swim or two. Wish that was as refreshing as it sounds, but our pool hasn’t been cooling off much. Water feels tepid and blah.

Song on repeat: Nothing new. Still love The Weeknd After Hours. But am thirsting for something new that’s just as exhilarating and goosebump inducing.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: JD Glow restocked today so I finally ordered from them! I read some bad things about their customer service though (like people ordering beginning June and no replies from customer service about their packages not arriving yet), so fingers crossed my package does arrive safe and sound! I rediscovered a whole bunch of Hello Waffle shadows so I plan to put a look together with them today!!
Weekend plans: My brother is coming over and going to BBQ for us! Bratwursts with onions and peppers and then some oven-roasted potatoes with it as well!
What was the last song you had on repeat?: I haven’t really been listening to music at all since I’m not driving lately!

Recent Purchases: BH Cosmetics Sweet Shoppe Palettes in Cotton Candy and Orange Sorbet; Give Me Glow Cosmetics Vintage Rose Palette; Alter Ego Artemis Palette; MAC x Teyana Taylor lipsticks in Good Moaninnnn and I Have a Man; MAC Lipstick in Marrakesh (Lipstick Day freebie for buying the other two). Sephora Lipstick Day Sale — Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Voluptuous Burgundy; #Lipstories Lipstick in Off Limits, Desert Trip, Take a Bite, and Trippin; freebie Lancôme Juicy Tube in shade Marshmallow Electro trial size.

Weekend plans: Same old, same old. My sons’ friend is coming over Sunday.

What was the last song you had on repeat?: I can’t remember the last time I had a song on repeat.

Haul: I didn’t buy as much as I thought I would when I went to the Sephora’s in Spokane. Again, I miss being able to swatch products. The staff swatched for me though which was interesting. Anyway, I picked up the Patrick Starr Spray Oil Makeup Remover and the Cleansing Wipes. I have used both products and they work quite well. I have very dry skin so the spray oil feels nice. It broke down my waterproof mascara without any difficulty. I also purchased Patrick Ta’s lipstick in the shade That’s Why She’s Late. It is a beautiful velvet red lipstick.

Weekend: We are expected to have a cooling trend so I am going to try and get some yard work done. I have been putting it off and the weeds are taller than I am. Also continue to go through boxes that were in storage for about 3 years. I am fighting just throwing them out as I haven’t looked at what is in them and obviously haven’t needed whatever is in the boxes in over 3 years. But, I am worried there will be something that I really do want.

Music on repeat: I went through a Queen phase for about a year and that was practically all I listened to. Lately, I have been spending a lot of time reliving the late 70’s and my favorite live album, “Frampton Comes Alive”. I had it in both vinyl and 8 track. I played it non-stop and have been playing it for the past couple of weeks, pretty much exclusively. I had always hoped to get the chance to see Peter in concert and you always think you have plenty of time. Now with COVID and his health issues, it doesn’t seem likely. I wish I had taken the opportunity when everything was normal.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nada. I will need to buy a new shower curtain rod within the next couple of weeks. Mine came crashing down on Monday.

Weekend Plans: Usual chores and errands. My aunt’s house just sold and I may have to help out. My foot is a bit puffy so resting that. Old injury from last spring and it swells once in a while.

Last song on repeat: The Boy from the Plantation/from the James Dean Bradfield upcoming solo album Even in Exile (about Victor Jara).

Genevieve Avatar

Mellon looks very mellow sitting there, relaxing from the heat of your summer. Still beautiful as ever.

Haul: I ordered some Skin Chemist skincare products – a night time moisturiser and serum.
Rediscoveries: Dior 3 Couleurs in Khaki – what a perfect triage of gold, olive green and olive brown shades they are.

Weekend Plans: Nada – we are in Stage 4 lockdown now, as our Covid 19 cases have soared in Victoria, Australia. This means a curfew from 8 pm to 5 am; one person per household to shop (me); one trip to the shops per day; everything but essentials closed, a 5 km limit around your house to shop, no visitors etc. All schools closed.
This has made things really difficult for my son and his family, as they are about 6-7 km from our place. Anika is quite worried about what is going to happen when the baby arrives – I will have to get a permit (necessary) to travel out of our 5 km zone and past curfew, when she goes into labour so I can mind the children whilst my son takes her to the hospital.
The only way I can safely and by the rules transport meals for them is by meeting them in the local shopping centre car park (within 5 km for both of us) and hand it over, as I did yesterday.
The rules will stay in effect unti the 13th of September and then we will see….
I know a lot of countries, including the US are experiencing problems containing community transmissions of the virus. In our area the figures are fairly mild, but where my sister lives, on the other side of town, it is a real hotspot.
I feel like most of this year has been spent in one kind of lockdown to another. To think that this time last year, my son and I had arrived in Port Douglas, at the top end of our country, for a holiday.
I hope everyone here remains safe and well.

Last song on repeat: Pentatonix, with Dolly Parton singing Jolene….

brendacr1 Avatar

Oh Genevieve, I hope your cases calm down, I was reading about it in the newspaper. Our city Calgary is the hotspot in the province, we have to wear masks inside all public areas or you will be fined. Our cases started dropping for a week and then they jumped again! Not sure why now? I hope everything goes ok with your daughter in law’s delivery and everything works out well afterward. Good luck with commuting back and forth, what a hassle to have to get a permit! Who would have thought that anything like this would ever have happened? We have to deal with this, we don’t have a choice do we? Take care.

Genevieve Avatar

Thank you Brenda, Shari and Rachel. We are hoping that this Stage 4 lockdown will prove to be the winner, but you really can’t predict anything with this awful virus. I keep seeing myself being pulled over by the police, wondering why I am out of curfew and having to explain the situation. Maybe the police could offer an escort to the hospital?
Every night we hear the police helicopter flying over to see who is on the roads.
It’s tough for Anika being with the locked up kids whilst my son works from home. As I mentioned to Celesta on this page, when Olivia was having her zoom meeting with her teacher, her 4 year old brother was quietly helping himself to the yummy biscuits, the peanut butter jar and a container of 100’s and 1000’s sprinkles. He would dip the biccies in the peanut butter and add a good shake of sprinkles on the top…His mum only found out when she put him to bed that night and found the empty biscuit packet and a MASS of sprinkles in his bed….

Hi Mellan!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I used my new PML mascara, it applied nicely, made my lashes nice and long without too many coats but it’s been so hot and muggy here by the time we got home it was smudged under my eyes, so I will powder under my eyes the next time. But overall it’s a win.
Weekend plans: My daughter and her husband have their house up for sale and they might sell before their house is finished being built, so they might have to move in with us for a few months. In anticipation of that I have been doing a little extra cleaning, I like to be ahead of the curve. This is after I re did the grout on my floors as my husband wasn’t happy with the job that was done by the guy he hired. Then I put the grout sealer on yesterday in 29C heat, it took 5 1/2 hours which brought on a migraine that refuses to go away. But it looks sooo good!
What was the last song you had on repeat?: Circles – Post Malone

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: My Morphe A Better Whirled brush set (partial proceeds going to GLSEN) came today, 2 days late. I’m also considering making a couple other purchases this month: a Clionadh Jewelled Multichrome 6-shadow bundle (I plan to order 1 bundle this month, 1 bundle next month, and the Lunette single in October) and the leopard-print Tarte Tarteist Pro Custom Magnetic Palette (which I intend to hold the 13 Clionadh multichromes I want and my Sydney Grace Pure Love blush).
Weekend plans: Lots of TV marathons: Law & Order tonight, SVU tomorrow, mixed NCIS:LA/Chicago PD Sunday. Also takeout and probably laundry.
What was the last song you had on repeat?: I haven’t really consciously put anything on repeat, but on an errand the other day I flipped the car radio between a couple different satellite stations and kept hitting Lewis Capaldi-“Before You Go” twice and “Someone You Loved” twice, all within an hour!

First of all, Genevieve, I feel for you and your family and your fellow countrypeople. I hope that this shutdown contains the illness and that your daughter-in law has a safe birth and a healthy baby. You are always saying such nice things to everyone on the board and seem a very positive person so I want to send back some love and positive vibes from New York.
I have a bday next week so I kindly ordered the Suqqu blush palette and told my 3 kids they can gift it to me. Not much else that’s catching my eye- I am just happy to be celebrating with my family ( my oldest son lives about a 1/2 hr away but comes weekly) and that I can make a wish as I gently blow out a candle and that all of us are well. Hope everyone stays well and has a relaxing weekend.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No purchases, and no wearing makeup this week either, so no rediscoveries to report either. There’s always a lull period for me after daily-vlogging an entire month, and with the current situation filming is the only “excuse” I have to wear makeup (living with minimalist parents there must be a “reason” or “excuse” to wear makeup). It pains me because this time last year I would start wearing a little makeup to work so the kids would feel less self-conscious about wearing makeup for their show days. Some of my friends in other states have their theatre camps in full swing and I have to say I’m at least a little jealous.

Weekend plans: My sister and I just bought the Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo Switch that came out last year so we’ll be taking turns playing it.

What was the last song you had on repeat?: “prom dress” by mxmtoon has been my jam sinch February and has only gotten more relevant with time.
