Do you ever wear makeup to alter your mood?
Oh, absolutely! I find that there’s something relaxing and soothing about sitting down and doing my makeup each day. It’s such a massive part of my day-to-day routine that skipping it often feels like a sign there’s too much going on elsewhere (and usually not in a good way!). Most of the time, I always feel a little happier, little more like myself, after putting on my makeup.
This is how I started wearing makeup. I needed a coping strategy to deal with overwhelm and depression during a very difficult time in my life. That was around 5 years ago :).
All the time. I have severe and chronic anxiety, and I find the process and creativity involved very soothing. I feel more confident, not because I feel prettier, but I just feel more like myself. Color never fails to make me feel happier. A red lip is my go-to when I need to feel extra powerful and in control.
I wear makeup every day unless I’m severely sick or have an allergic reaction or something along those lines. It just makes me feel normal and in a routine. Yes it brightens my mood and I enjoy wearing it!
Yes, absolutely. The other day I wore MAC Siempre Selena Retro Matte Lipstick, a gorgeous, rich red, even though I would be wearing a mask for hours. True, no one else saw it, but I *felt* it. Felt an extra little spring in my step, a boost to my overall mood, plus a sense of confidence and empowerment. I’ve also been known to choose shades of eyeshadow to go with whatever mood or state of mind I want to be in.
I feel you! Every day, even if I don’t put on any other makeup, I’ll throw on a bright lip while stuck at home just because it makes me feel so much more like myself—even though no one else is going to see or care.
Nancy, I completely understand the lip effect. I think I’ve purchased 6 or so lip products in tha past three months. I know I’m wearing it! Perfect.
I love doing my makeup. It gives me joy most of the time and it is very relaxing. I do my makeup even during the lockdown, when I’m not going anywhere. (: I wish I could wear full, intense looks every single day!
Always. Makeup has always been war paint for me. I need it to battle my demons, real or imaginary. If it does not alter my mood for the better, I am in trouble.
Yes. I’m either leaning into a mood with the way I do my make up or I’m setting the tone for the day. I like the creative process of it and it is definitely part of my morning routine to the point where if I don’t do at least something, I feel something is off or that I haven’t finished something all day and it just nags me. For that 3-minute-look, at the very least I have something on my lips and mascara and then I’ll typically use whatever I use on my lips as cheek color.
Yes! It make me feel a little better, happier. The act of wear makeup it’s so funny!
Goodness yes. On days when I feel like I don’t look my best, putting on makeup that flatters me or disguises that I’m not feeling great will absolutely lift my mood. I guess the only mood change is to lift my spirits. I can’t imagine makeup ever slowing me down or bringing me down if my spirits are a bit too high.
When I am in a mood, nothing can alter it. ? For me make-up is more of matching my mood, than altering it. Even if I put on make-up every week day to make the transition from home to work from home, it’s more of a routine than a mood change.
Really, there’s another reason to wear it? ? Yeah I know – creativity, image for work, discoloration, asymmetry, confidence, etc……but for me all those things boil down to – it makes me feel better.
I would have to be in intensive care not to wear my makeup every day. It is who I am. I love the colour and the self confidence I feel when I am putting my makeup on and seeing the finished result. It never fails to brighten my day.
Oh my gosh yes! Make up can make me feel naughty, nice, sophisticated or just healthy! So yes definitely it can change my mood! It’s so fun to make myself up. It also gives my self confidence a boost too.
Yes!
Be it a simple “no makeup” look or full glam – wearing & applying makeup brightens my day.
Absolutely! Why else would I wear it? In drama club in high school, I learned to make mgy peers look old and went home to make my 5 yr old sister look like my grandmother. Makeup can change faces in amazing ways. For practical purposes, one can look glamorous, sweet, or very natural. A human can be made to look like a dog or cat or whatever!
It washes off and can be totally different the next adventure. IRL, I prefer a semi natural look but that never means I can’t go to extremes.
What’s not to love.
*gorgeous eye look Christine! Is it written up somewhere, old love to know what you did. 🙂

Yes, using makeup brightens my mood. I feel ready to face the day and what it brings. Now during this weird COVID times I rediscovered my love for makeup as I work from home and have more time in the mornings. Putting on makeup feels soothing and empowering at the same time: My eyeshadow game is on point, don’t mess with me!
OMG I’m so happy to find this community which shares my love for things beauty and makeup!
