- Haul/Rediscoveries: Waiting on new Sephora #LipStories Lipsticks and Rouge Lacquers (they’re supposed to arrive later today), Becca Love by Barbie Ferreira Highlighter.
- Weekend plans: If I don’t do a photo/swatch session today, definitely one on Saturday! It’s been a busy week, so I’m hoping I can sleep past 6AM this weekend! That would be delightful.
- What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: We just wrapped up season 20 of Survivor (we bounce around – we’re watching season 8 now), and I usually watch anywhere from half to a full episode of Great British Bake Off before bed (I’ve seen all the seasons at least three times).

I feel kind of like Mellan in this video.
Haul: The only things I spent money on this week were groceries, monthly bills, and a fluffy Kindle book.
Weekend plans: A Zoom happy hour with friends, laundry, reading, playing with the dog, watching movies with my husband, and maybe—if I can summon up the motivation—going through my closet to weed out clothes I no longer wear or I know I’ll never fit into again.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched? The very last thing I watched was last night when I fell asleep halfway through “Emma” (Gwyneth Paltrow/Jeremy Northam), which I’ve already seen a million times. The last show I watched in full was the latest episode of Better Call Saul (SOOO good!).
Hey we just got done watching the last Better Call Saul. Now I’m thirsty.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I’m waiting for a Sephora order of Youth to the People Glowberry Oil and rms beauty Buriti Bronzer (I’m amazed that I’m actually ordering a bronzer!); I’ve also just ordered some diffuser oils from Saje – Ritual (my new favourite – it’s knocked Daydream out of first place) as well as Intention and Present Moment. Rediscoveries – those Stila “In the” palettes – Genevieve mentioned In the Garden and that spurred me to take out it and also In the Light from their “hiatus house”.
Weekend plans: maybe mulching the front garden – I cleared it out a few days ago and want to get mulch down before the plants get too big and the Creeping Charlie takes hold. Beyond that, I’ve no idea except for taking walks.
Last tv show I watched – Unorthodox, on Netflix. Then my husband became interested so I re-started it. I told my sis in law about it and she binge watched it. Loosely based on a true story but, oh my goodness, the acting in it – superb. And the story itself – no “villains” – just people with different and ingrained beliefs about the right/only way to live. Before that, I binge watched The Stranger when it first hit Netflix. I could drive my SUV through the plot holes and stupid plots left dangling for no reason but Richard Armitage is in it and I would watch him in ANYTHING (which explains why I watched the violent and pretty pointless Pilgrimage!)
Those Stila “In The’s” were sensational. I only regret that I didn’t purchase In the Light – I only have In the Garden. They are such pigmented and beautiful shades.
I will have a look and see if Unorthodox is on our Neflix. It seems like the kind of story I would like to watch.
It’s quite a bit of a departure from the book on which it’s based but such a well done production. On Audible today (at least the Canadian Audible – it varies from country to country) the “deal of the day” is Infidel, written by a Somali woman who lived under and ultimately escaped fundamentalist Islam (in Somalia, then in Kenya and then in Saudi). The Somalia/Kenya voyage is one many of my former students experienced, their families having fled Somalia and lived in refugee camps in Kenya before coming to Canada as refugees. I’m debating whether or not to “get” the book. But both stories illustrate to me the huge issues I have with any fundamentalist religion, whether Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hutterite-ism, etc.
I can’t believe how crazy your sleep schedule has been! I’m hoping you can get rest too.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I’ve been trying to save money, but the other day I decided I wanted to feel a little more sunshine in my life, so I purchased the full-size Urban Decay lipstick Ex-Girlfriend (sheer shimmer brown), and Urban Decay Bronzer in Sun-Kissed ($15 right now). I also picked up Pat McGrath EYEdols eyeshadow in Statuesque and the Red Opulence lust gloss trio. Doing my best to hold off on spending what I feel to be too much on myself for the moment, and focus on where “fun” money can do good. A different way of treating myself and feeling good!
Weekend plans: Doing work. Then, repotting my new victory (herb) garden seedlings into old takeout containers! I’ve been living for watching these little guys sprout from seeds. I found a bunch of great Asian herbs from Kitazawa Seed Company, based in Oakland, California.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: Terrace House Tokyo, Season 3. Sooooo many good scenes this season. I definitely cried, and I know other fans did too this season (happy crying)!
Watching the show with the Japanese audio description track where the comedians talk over all the scenes makes me feel like I’m watching a show with a bunch of hilarious friends, and the focus on calming everyday moments is so soothing. Also, I usually watch each season first with the regular audio track, then go back and rewatch it with the comedian audio and Japanese subtitles to get some immersive language practice. It’s very helpful to me for continuing to work on my Japanese, since I am not able to study Japanese dance anymore and be in that immersive language setting.
The last movie I saw with my boyfriend (via Netflix party since we are trapped apart for now), was Road to Perdition. Such a classic movie, and Tom Hanks and Jude Law are both wonderful in it.
Hey Smellan!
? Haul/Rediscoveries: I’m on a low-buy and hauled Melt Burnish and CT Pillow Talk eye liner. Both are entirely my cup of tea I’m enjoying products in my stash and one of my recent rediscoveries is Huda Mauve Obsessions palette. It co-ordinates with these liners and also works with my current favourite ND 5 pan, #2 (peach) and also the top line of Sydney Grace Enduring palette Light. The three are so complimentary to each other and have been my current jam as they always do wonders for my dark grey green eyes.
?Weekend plans: The weather has turned colder so I have no immediate weekend plans. As soon as the weather is pleasant enough, I’m to be found outdoors puttering at something; frequently gardening and hiking with the doggos.
?What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: I’m binging 3 series right now. Ozark on Netflix, Babylon Berlin on Netflix, and Servant on Apple TV+
Happy Passover/Easter to all!
Happy Easter to you too Wednesday. I am looking at the Enduring Deep palette to purchase when this is all over as a treat to myself. What an unusual eye shade you have going there – mine are a deep grey/blue.
“If I shake, will you let me sleep, mom?” ?
Haul: Natasha Denona Mini Bloom Blush.
Rediscoveries: Nothing this week. I’ve been in potty training purgatory for two days and so haven’t worn makeup. Urine everywhere. Send help. ??
Weekend plans: More potty training.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched? I watched The Other Guys with Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg last night. That movie is so ridiculous, but it makes me laugh so hard, and I needed that after an incredibly frustrating day.
Best wishes on the toilet training Celesta…maybe he is not quite ready yet. I was told by a fellow teaching colleague, who had 3 children, that they will ‘train’ when they are ready. This was after my eldest son (at the age of 2 and a bit) climbed into the front window of a shoe shop and let rip. I was so mortified….4 weeks later he decided for himself that nappies weren’t the go.
Thanks Genevieve! The last couple of days have been much better. My husband and I did some research before we started potty training and should have remembered who our kid is: so very stubborn and resistant to change. We know that he’s capable of doing this (he’ll be three in a few months, so it’s definitely time) and things will click in to place once he realizes that this is his routine now.
Mellan, I feel your mood buddy! And I doubt that I’m alone in this. #quarentinelife ?
Haul: Nothing, zip, nada…yet. waiting for April 21st 1 the MAC x Selena collection releases.
Weekend plans: Hahaha… Same as every day the past 3 weeks. Sit home, clean, take a nap, snack, repeat. I’m feeling very uninspired and blah lately.
What is the last TV show that you watched? Probably “How To Get Away With Murder” with Viola Davis, or “The Good Doctor”. I’m still waiting for my son or friend to just help me setup my Roku TV in my new place. Honestly, I’m going out of my bird without it!
I bet you are going out of your tree Nancy without your Roku set up. I guess you are getting to know your new apartment very, very well.
I have been having a few more afternoon siestas as well. Take care!
Ha ha, Mellan exerting the minimal amount of effort to comply with your request to shake!
Haul: Received my Sephora order of lotions, and our hands are all happier for it.
Weekend plans: Another weekend of STAYING HOME. Probably a quick jaunt up to a cider brewery for a to-go order of their newest flavor, and probably some takeout for dinner one night (but maybe not, we had takeout last night already). Weather should be nice so I’ll do some yardwork and maybe hang up my hammock. I’ve got two online classes to take — one “belly dance burn” class and one foam roller class. We’ve also got a long-distance Jackbox game with my in-laws planned, but since it involves 4 households in 3 timezones and 2 continents, and we’re the only technologically savvy house (and not the ones hosting) I don’t have a lot of confidence that we’ll actually end up playing a game.
Last TV show or movie I watched: We’re currently watching Season 3 of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The last thing I finished watching was Season 1 of the Witcher. I’m a woman of diverse tastes. Might watch Parasite this weekend now that it’s on Hulu 🙂
I looooved The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! I binge-watched all three seasons a couple months ago. The costumes are phenomenal!
Yes, we just watched the episode where she goes to FL, and when she walked into the hotel I was like “Why don’t I have a dress with an attached cape?” I love all the fabulous dresses.
Haul/Rediscoveries:
I bought the Natasha Denona Mini Retro palette. It’s fun and springy. It won’t become a favorite, just because the color story is somewhat limited, but it’s my first dive into Natasha Denona eye shadows, and I’m having fun playing with it.
Weekend plans:
I’ve had a hard time motivating myself during the week to get work done. The weekend is supposed to be wet and cool, so I’m going to have to get some work done. My husband and I will make ourselves and Easter feast – ham, mashed potatoes with goat cheese, and Brussel sprouts.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?:
I’m watching Blood, season 2, on Acorn.
Haul/Rediscoveries: Nothing new, but I’m still debating doing a haul soon, as I’m concerned that in the next 2-3 months all online stores will have supply issues.
Weekend plans: Fast re-stocks, long walks around the neighbourhood, maybe starting the next book from Discworld (in the past 2 years I started reading the series in publishing order, but I do read other books in between), long calls with my mom,
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: I can’t even remember, I personally don’t like watching movies or TV shows… I’m more of a books person. Even The Daily Show with Trevor Noah I listen as a podcast nowadays, during my evening walk.
I am much more of a reader too Ana Maria. It’s only recently that I started watching a TV series again. I have a stack of DVD’s to get through too.
I did a fast restock this morning as well and it was fairly busy with people getting food in for Easter. However I found that more people were taking the social distancing seriously than, say, a couple of weeks ago.
Take care Ana Maria.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I just ordered a bunch of skin care & hair products from Ulta, my basics are getting low and I also decided to try the new Nars Vallarta Bronzer. Can’t wait to try it! Cost was minimal due to saved points, thanks Ulta!
Weekend plans: Order some take out, play some Animal Crossing, hopefully the weather will warm up a bit to do some more yard work.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched? I’ve been alternating The Wire and Brooklyn Nine-Nine in two episode increments at a time. The Wire is so intense that I need some humor from the 99 to balance it out. So far, it’s a winning combo! Would highly recommend both shows.
I love Brooklyn 99! One of the few shows I keep up with week-to-week. Utterly wholesome lol.
I agree! It’s honestly one of the funniest and relatable comedies I’ve ever seen.
I’ve seen the first three and a half seasons of The Wire but never finished because it’s so heavy. It’s incredible though. What season are you on?
I just finished the 4th season! It was a bit of a slow start, but whew it was a wild ride through the end. I can’t believe there’s just one season left to go.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I am pretending that I can go outside already so I stocked up on suncare at Nordstrom —Supergoop Shimmershades in Daydream (peach) and First Light (pale beige) plus the Defense Refresh (Re)setting Mist. I also ordered a duo of Deborah Lippmann Rich Girl Hand Cream but there was only one tube in the package. After waiting on hold for 45 minutes, they told me to send the single back and they would ship me the duo. That seems somewhat convoluted but it is what it is. I am also waiting on an Air Blush in Lines & Last Night (peachy) and a mini primer from the Marc Jacobs sale.
Weekend plans: The post office to take care of the Nordstrom return and maybe some spring cleaning. We moved into this place a year ago March so I know how long it has been since I vacuumed the crumbs out if the silverware drawers.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: Episode 1 of World On Fire, on PBS. I guess it’s good to remember that the world survives.
Haul/Rediscoveries: Most of my recent purchases have been replenishing skin care products (I love Mad Hippie!!!) and the new First Aid Beauty Weightless Liquid Mineral SPF30 which is really really nice.
Weekend plans: Taking time to relax with my family and celebrate Easter even though it will be different this year without our extended family joining us. Looking forward to doing a formal sit down anyway, keeping up tradition despite the current situation out there.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: We are huge fans of both Survivor and Better Call Saul. Have never missed a season or an episode.
Our Easter is going to be very quiet without our grandchildren, my sister and her partner around this year. We can only wave to them in the car, when they came earlier today to pick up their Easter goodies (books, clothes, toys and one egg). They seem quite resigned to the fact they can’t visit us at our home for the moment. So sad.
We are doing a formal sit down on Easter Sunday too and we read about the current situation in the States and it is frightening for you.
Haul/Rediscoveries: No hauls right now but my next haul WILL be MUFE Full Cover concealer, my only must-have everyday base product, and TO niacinamide and Matrixyl.
Weekend plans: Laundry and more of the same. I’ve been playing a lot of Mario Kart and exercising every day. Some days I meditate using Insight Timer, which I have really enjoyed. Cooking a lot. Haven’t started baking proper quarantine loaves yet, but I did do biscuits from scratch for the first time using a Serious Eats recipe and they were the best I’ve ever had.
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: I recently finished the original Jersey Shore. It certainly was a simpler time back then! I’ve also been watching Sylvester Stallone movies and just saw Rambo and Rocky (1) which I liked and was honestly shocked by the dramatic tone of. I actually loved Rocky.
Yep, I’m a bit like that too Mellon!
Haul: nothing really at the moment. with the emphasis on washing hands, the only things I have purchased are the medicated hand creams to soothe the eczema on my hands.
Weekend Plans: Friday, after doing another thorough clean of the house (which was in a very good state as we haven’t had our grandchildren over for nearly two weeks since the big lockdown), I did do some sorting of shoes and clothes. At our local strip shopping centre, a Sri Lankan/Thai restaurant had opened a couple of months before the lockdown had started and they were offering all of their menu as takeaway, which we had on Friday night (it is Saturday here in Aus now). It was lovely and I feel quite good in supporting the business in these difficult times.
Saturday: just some groceries and food for our Easter lunch on Sunday. Plus, our youngest son (father of our grandchildren) is dropping by to pick up the art table we have for the children to do art/craft and probably school work for Olivia. I have all of their Easter presents ready. I tend to give them new winter clothes, a book and a toy rather than chocolate eggs. My daughter in law is 22 weeks pregnant and is feeling the strain of having to keep the kids busy whilst their dad is working in the study. At least both of my sons are still employed, which is something I am most grateful for.
Sunday – celebrating Easter and not doing too much. I am going to do some cooking and prepare some meals for the week and to give to Nicholas and his family.
I am still doing my ‘neutral’ palette of the day to keep me amused and so far it has been interesting to see what eye looks I can create with the different palettes.
The last TV show watched: I have been doing more reading than watching TV, but I have read through my library books… so I started watching 24/7 Murder – a real life crime show from Essex in England. It has been really good.
Hi Christine, I meant to ask – how are your parents and Shane’s parents doing? Are they OK?
We have been reading and learning about the awful situation you are experiencing, especially in New York State and Louisiana – as if the tornadoes, hurricanes, bushfires etc haven’t wreaked enough havoc and pain already. My heart and prayers go out to you all.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I ordered the Jeffree Star Blood Lust palette-no way I could resist all those purples!-yesterday, when Morphe finally restocked after a month and a half! It shipped today, and due to Morphe’s COVID-induced employee shortage, it’s expected to arrive on the 20th. This morning I picked up the compact mirror from Revlon’s Live Boldly collection-makeup tools featuring both Revlon’s vintage cursive logo and a modern paint-splatter print-during an early-morning toilet paper run.
Weekend plans: Pick up a grocery order tomorrow evening, laundry at some point-otherwise a lot of TV. I’m miffed at Comet-they added Quantum Leap and Battlestar Galactica ’05, and got rid of the MST3K double feature in favor of accommodating Stargate: SG-1 (which they air all the time. I don’t watch it, but my uncle used to be obsessed with it).
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: I just switched back to Ion’s NCIS: LA marathon after 2 episodes of CSI: Miami on MyNetworkTV (which only airs here in 2-hour blocks on weeknights due to sharing bandwidth with new lifestyle network Dabl, pronounced Dabble).
Haul: Natasha Denona Mini Retro palette came today! I’m looking forward to using that tomorrow. I pre-ordered the MAC x Selena lipsticks and La Leyenda highlighter.
Weekend plans: Home workouts, binge watching something on Saturday and on Sunday, Easter dinner, mani and home facial(s).
Last movie or TV show watched: Schitt’s Creek- loved it! “Deevud!” Am rewatching The Orville now. There’s just something about that show that I really like – I was never a Star Trek or Star Wars fan but I really like The Orville.
Haul: Tarte Fall Feels Palette, Garnier Micellar Water; Burt’s Bees Micellar Makeup Removing Towelettes
Rediscoveries: UD Vice Ltd. Palette. It’s not as great on it’s own as I used to think, but those shimmers really fun to combine with both neutral and colorful matte singles.
Weekend plans: Rest up tomorrow, and wash makeup brushes. I’ll be working Sunday, but I’ll get off by 4:30 and have plenty of time for a nice Easter dinner with the household (hubby, kids, my brother, and the kitties).
What was the last movie or TV show you watched?: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, last weekend. During the week, it’s just been YouTube, watching beauty channels and Ask a Mortician.
Haul: Beautylish (gift card event): Wayne Goss 24S large synthetic fan brush, Chikuhodo T-7 eyeshadow brush (a favourite for cream eyeshadow), and Chjarlotte Tilbury Queen of Glow eyeshadow quad (on sale).
Belk (35% off): Ordered 4 place settings for our everyday dishes as we’re running out of bowls and could use a few more medium-sized mugs.
Weekend Plans: Decluttering and organizing the kitchen. My spouse tussled with the Cling Wrap when it got stuck as the drawer opened, which led to a late-night reorganization of two kitchen drawers and another two Saturday morning. Decluttering continues on Sunday. We’ll have a nice meal for Easter on Sunday or Monday.
Last show/movie I watched: Finished the latest season of Ozark a few days ago.
I just got the Nars Laguna collection and I am in love with this!
