What products do you use for your go-to dramatic or more colorful look?
I don’t have a real go-to that I’ve done often, but when I want to wear color, I’ll either have a particular color combo in mind and will reach for Sydney Grace eyeshadow singles or I will just pull out Pat McGrath Decadence (which is mostly color).
I’ve been reaching for my Coloured Raine Safari Raine palette a lot, as I’ve really enjoyed muted teals. When I want something more bright colorful, I’ll reach for my Sugarpill Funsize Palette. But I have several palettes that are colorful that I reach for often. It just depends on what color combo I feel like playing with for the day. I love mixing it up every day.
These are my usual go-to products for a dramatic evening look:
For eyes, I use either Dior Backstage Cool Neutrals or ColourPop Smoke Show palette, Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Sabbath or Perversion for tightlining upper lash line, and UD 24/7 in Mushroom for lower lash line. If I’m using Smoke Show, I like to use UD 24/7 in Cuff. My go-to dramatic cheek products are Chanel Pink Explosion, Dior Nude Luminizer in Pink Glow, and Guerlain Meteorite Pearls. The lip color I usually choose for this type of look is Chanel Pirate or Laura Mercier Boudoir.
I don’t do many “colourful” looks but when I do, I will usually reach for one of my UD Vice palettes and I will also grab my beloved MAC Birds&Berries single shadow to use somewhere in the look.
I tend not to fuss too much with eyeshadow, so it’s usually just a matter of switching to a more neutral blush and pairing it with a more dramatic lip color. I may also go in heavier with the eyeliner and mascara (I usually just tightline + one coat).
Pat McGrath all the way: Both the 6 pan Star Wars palettes and 4-pan Noctural Nirvana can kick up the killowatts on any look.
For eyes: The featured palette, Pat McGrath Decadence is one of my main ones! So is Natasha Denona Lila and Sunrise, UD GOT, Vice 3, and Beached, plus Viseart Chroma Theory palette.
Cheeks: UD Bittersweet or Quiver
Lips: Any of my GAZILLION reds, purples or deep, vampy shades! Some favorites: MAC Ruby Woo, Maria Moretti, Yoni Crush, Deep Love, Lady Danger or Rouge En Vie, UD Troublemaker, Rock Steady, Catfight or After Dark, plus YSL Scout’s Red.
For my lips it would definitely be MAC Diva, but I won’t shy from wearing that lipstick daily, not just for dramatic looks.
For eyes, colorful would be using something like a blue or green from my custom made eye palette (MAC In the Shadows or Humid).
I tend to avoid going bold / dramatic /colorful with my cheeks. Dramatic would be using contour, blush and bronzer at the same time, even if very toned down.
I do bright greens. I don’t have a palette, just some singles. The main color will be Kryolan Viva Brilliant Color in Iridescent Lime and I also use Jaded from the Nyx Prismatic line along with another color from that line that has been discontinued and which I no longer can identify. I might use Tarte Dark Seas also.
Even my most “dramatic” looks tend to be “neutral” eyeshadows, LOL! I just use more black eyeliner, and use it on my lower lashline & waterline, and add a second coat of black mascara… I’ll also add a bold lip, skip the bronzer, and use a “proper” contour product.
I don’t do bold looks often, but the last time I had the occasion to do so was back in December, when I went to the Bauhaus concert. For that, I used my Melt Cosmetics “She’s In Parties” stack (naturally, LOL!), with a bit of Dark Matter, and Kat von D “Vampira” liquid lipstick. For New Year’s Day, since I actually worked an event, I went a bit more “colorful”, and pulled out my UD Naked Cherry palette, and a NYX Oxblood liner on my waterline, while keeping the rest of my makeup quite “natural”.
I love doing colourful eyeshadow looks and I will use one of several colourful eye palettes in my collection:
Lorac Pro Metal
bareMinerals The Playlist or Soft and Smokey
UD Vice 2
Pixi Beauty Reflex Light
and some of my quads – Dior’s Bonne Etoile, Chanel’s Tisse D’Automne, Lancome’s Jade Fever
and I often mix and match shades from different quads/palettes too.
Definitely my Decadence palette from Pat McGrath.
I wear colorful and/or dramatic looks most days. I can’t say I have any go-tos. I’m eternally devoted to the UD Electric Palette, UD 24/7 Eye Pencil in Perversion, and purple eyeshadows and eyeliners. I love my weird-colored indie makeup.
For colorful looks, I go to Shu Uemura pressed eyeshadows. I assembled my own palette based on primary and secondary colors and mix them to create the shades I desire. These shadows layer well and last nicely on my oily lids with nearly zero fallout. It’s a bummer that they’re so hard to get in the US now, though.
For drama, I don’ t go to any one brand (though I must say Urban Decay does stand out in my mind and my collection for drama). I have lots of dramatic colors and textures, especially in eyeshadows no matter the brand; ND, PMG, Coloured Raine, UD, Sleek, NYX, L’Oreal, in particular come to mind.
