- Weekend plans: Hoping to photograph most of what I listed above (it all came in late yesterday) today and then edit/post over the weekend.
- What’s your go-to music genre?: I’ve been gravitating toward instrumental, kind of lo-fi or atmospheric, but I tend to rotate between these Spotify playlists: Peaceful Piano, Brain Food, Lush Lofi, Lo-Fi Beats, Chill Tracks.

My loving thoughts go out to Mellan. I hope he keeps improving. So sorry about his hearing. My dog is older, too, and he’s losing his vision. It’s so difficult seeing them get older, isn’t it? I’m well aware of foot-stomping and licking-the-chops in response to the question, “What do you want?” My dog adds in wild tail wags and yelping. The answer, of course, is always FOOD!
Haul: Clinique Lash Power Mascara. A friend recommended it for my short, sparse lashes, so I thought I’d give it a try. Really liking it a lot so far, especially the small brush size, but it’s hard to remove.
Weekend plans: Laying low, avoiding crowds. Visiting family, doing chores, washing my hands a lot, and catching up on The Walking Dead and Outlander.
What’s your go-to music genre? Really difficult question because I’m all over the place. I can be listening to Nick Cave one day, Beethoven the next day, jazz the next, and 90s trip-hop the day after that. Lately, I’ve been on binges of Bowie (mainly 1970-74), Tori Amos (especially first five albums), PJ Harvey (only the first six albums; I think she’s awful now), and Fiona Apple (all albums). I’m not a big fan of country (except some very old country), rap (mostly because I don’t know much about it), electronic, pop, or anything with auto-tuned vocals. If all that can be summed up in a genre, then that’s my go-to!
In my area is getting crazy. The cleaning staff at the office disinfected the bathroom doors twice today already, and they can barely keep up with the hand soap refill.
Really looking forward to seeing both the Mac and Huda eyeshadows!
Sounds like a very promising update regarding Mellan’s sleeping through the night. I’ll be praying that only continues to improve. Because you need to be able to sleep at night, after all.
Haul: Just necessities. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toner, Farmacy Green Defense Daily Mineral Sunscreen (FAB DC’d my HG sunscreen moisturizer!) and my “Birthday Gift” Sol de Janeiro duo. I could get the PML Divine Rose Mothership, but where to send it? Especially considering how late some of her shipments are!
Weekend plans: Lots of laundry and packing. Today I’ll do my hair, I guess. Meeting on Sunday will be my last Sunday meeting with this congregation. There are so many there whom I will miss.
Go-to Music Genre? Mostly those under there the whole punk/new wave umbrella including Post-punk, New Wave,Dark Wave, Goth. Some Grunge, too. I tend to go for whatever sound fits my current state of mind. Currently digging Talking Heads, The Cure, Evanescence.
Ok, so now I `have` to binge listen The Cure. 😆 One of my roommates in first year of university was into the post-punk genre (music, lifestyle) and it so reminds me of her… she used to make the playlists at a punk gathering and I sometimes went with her… I wish I would have saved some of her playlists (at least the titles).
Mellan says: “You know what I want, Mom.”
Haul: A new pair of black flats for Spring, Honest Beauty Elevated Hydration Mist to replace my beloved Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist. Still holding strong on my makeup no buy, but I find myself buying less in general, which is nice. I feel a more mindful shift in my buying habits and that feels really good.
Rediscoveries: ND Darya Blush palette, ND Safari palette, Colourpop So Jaded palette, Em Cosmetics True Glosses, my MUG single shadows.
Weekend plans: Hopefully take my son to the park, clean my bathroom and maybe do some diamond painting… the sky is the limit!
What’s your go-to music genre?: Generally alternative. Specifically 90’s alternative.
90s alternative…I bet we like some of the same music. ?
Haul: In a recent post about products you could get rid of, I mentioned my two bulky old UD palettes. Well, I ordered an empty Z-Palette earlier this week and last night I popped all the pans out of the bulky packaging! It was surprisingly easy, I didn’t even need any heat, I just worked a spatula in there and broke the glue. I only broke a couple pans and only one majorly.
Rediscoveries: Haven’t retried anything this week, but depotting those palettes caused me to really look at the colors in them and consider which ones I might actually use now that they’re more accessible. I plan to spend some time seeing if they’re even still usable after all these years.
Weekend plans: So I live in the Seattle area. I had tickets for an event this weekend but due to the fact that we’ve got this COVID-19 outbreak, the event has been postponed until probably sometime next month. Spouse and I have decided to stick close to home and keep things low-key. Going to our local gin distillery to try their new release, probably grabbing dinner someplace local, running some necessary errands (hopefully the shelves aren’t bare), and otherwise mostly hanging out at home and binging The Witcher finally and playing some games. Weather tonight and tomorrow looks crummy but things might clear up Sunday, and if so, we’ll take the dog for a nice long walk.
Favorite music genre: I usually say I like “weird moody sh*t.” Doesn’t really matter the genre, if it’s weird and makes you feel all the feels, I like it. Goth music, beautiful cello compositions, sad indie songs, etc etc. Of course as a belly dancer I enjoy a lot of Middle Eastern and world music — and wow is a lot of classic Arabic music moody AF! The lyrics are really heavy with emotion and poetic allusions and stuff. I love it! And of course a good improvised oud solo (the oud being a lute-like instrument) is just beautiful.
I also really like cross-genre covers. Metal versions of classic Arabic songs. Doo-wop versions of modern pop music. Down-tempo moody versions of 90s hits.
After watching the first season of The Witcher three or so times, I bought the first book ? I hope you enjoy it too!
Sorry for your weekend plans being affected by the outbreak. I wanted to buy tickets for a Cirque du Soleil show in my area at the end of the month, but I’m postponing it trying to see what will happen next. They are already cancelling many public community days locally.
Good job on the depotting. I haven’t dared tackle UD, but really should. Thanks for the inspiration.
Haul: I don’t have it since I just ordered it this morning but picked up Pat McGrath Mothership VII Divine Rose, this morning. I got one for my daughter and one for myself. I had talked myself out of it for so long and then crumbled this morning. I am anticipating loving it a lot and though I am mostly over the whole PMGL prices and similar shades in each palette, I did feel this was a softer look and I am enjoying that for now. That was my only purchase. I am headed to the big city in two weeks so I am anticipating picking up a few things. I have wanted to try the new EL foundation which is suppose to be mature skin friendly and good for dry skin so that is on my list to check out.
Weekend: I don’t have any plans. I will probably work on some mixed media projects. I am going to be ramping up my work for the 2020 census soon so I want to get a little done on my art pieces.
Music genre: I really love all music except really twangy Bluegrass but my go to is always Classic Vinyl. I am a child of the 60’s and really love everything written during the 60’s and 70’s. Every summer while I was in high school, my brother, sister and I would head to the beach. I had a big transistor radio. We would lay on the beach and listen to music for hours and hours. Swimming and playing around. We went to a beach called “Hole in the Wall” or Doheny Beach in Southern California. Such happy times and listening to the songs is always really nostalgic for me.
Haul: Farmacy “sweet dreams” set – travel size Clean Bee cleanser, full size Honeymoon Glow serum, and mini Honey Grail face oil. GWPs – mini Honey Potion mask and Green Clean cleansing balm.
Weekend Plans: Start my annual mega deep clean of the house. This weekend is the master suite and library/art desk half of the loft.
Go-to music genre: A mix of first wave, post-punk, goth rock, and industrial.
Yes it’s treat time Mellan!
Haul/Rediscoveries: I bought the Fenty Full Frontal Mascara and it flaked all over under my eyes, I’m going to try it one more time and if it does it again it’s going back I sure didn’t expect that from RiRi.
Weekend plans: Packing to go on a driving vacay, we’re going to drive down the west coast and we are hopefully going to see the frizzle ice in Yosemite National Park, we’ve wanted to do this for years.
What’s your go-to music genre?: I listen to the current soft rock that plays on the radio every day. But I do like to listen to my faves: Rolling Stones, Journey, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Whitney Houston, anything that will lift me up and get me moving. But I can also mix it up and add some Post Malone, Drake and a few others that catch my attention. Music plays a great part in my life probably the reason I have ringing in my ears!
Haul: Took advantage of the MAC 25% off sale and I ordered:
*Back-up for Prolongwear Concealer
*Replacement for my current powder (already hit pan), I choose to try the Pressed Blot Powder
*Refills for my custom made eyeshadow palette, to replace colors that expire in the next 1-2 months: Arena, Cranberry, Wedge, Quarry
*Replacement for my expiring pink/mauve blush: Blushbaby
*I got a free Cremesheen lipstick in Dare You (I only like Mate and Satin, Cremesheen is too creamy for me, so I’ll most likely gift it)
Weekend plans: Mostly rest after a crazy week. Off course, meal prep, groceries, house chores, the Saturday long hike. I wish I could go to some museums or an event, but with the whole virus outbreak I’m almost concerned that in the next weeks all major public events might start to be cancelled so I postpone buying tickets for anything.
What’s your go-to music genre?: Well… generally speaking I don’t have a genre per se. If I like a band or a song, I just listen to it. Yes, my old time favorites gravitate towards alternative / progressive / industrial rock (the `old school` stuff like NIN), I want deny myself some heavy metal (more like Disturbed), I really enjoy electronic new wave rock blends (like The Birthday Massacre), I’ll listen anything Anneke van Giersbergen.
But even so, I also enjoy a lot of the 80-90s music, from classic rock to cheesy pop. There are some country songs on the radio I won’t switch from.
I do listen a lot of classical music, but I find it too sterile to listen from recordings so I try as much as possible to attend symphonic concerts or operas when available.
NIN and Disturbed! I’m a fan of both, too. ?
I’ve been listening to Disturbed’s cover of “Sound of Silence” on repeat for ages! I should really check out some of their more characteristic stuff, but that one’s so good that I have a hard time listening to anything else. 🙂
Oh yes! I love some NIN and the Gathering and/or Anneke – such a wonderful voice!
Haul/Rediscoveries: Okay, I caved and got Pat McGrath Mothership VII Divine Rose. I’m also so in love with the Pat McGrath Mthrshp Subliminal Platinum Bronze and Golden Opulence palettes. Really spectacular palettes.
Weekend plans: I wanted to go to the annual Philadelphia Flower Show, but we just had our first covid cases in my state 🙁 I have never been more self-conscious of how often I want to touch my face.
What’s your go-to music genre?: My go-tos are probably rap/trap/alternative hip hop, but I alternate between indie rock, alternative, industrial, dark wave, witch house, club music, classical, etc. Also Japanese folk and rock music. Heavy rotation: Gesaffelstein, Tierra Whack, Sza, Japanese Breakfast, Twin Temple, Tame Impala, Sofia Reta, Travis Scott, Vince Staples, Swae Lee, Bonobo.
Awww, I love the Mellan video. I’m glad sleep is better for you all. Sorry to read about the hearing loss.
Haul:
*Ipsy — Eleman Beauty Zephyr Wind Palette. It’s really pretty, with rose, berry, and purple shades, so hopefully I’ll get to try it out this weekend.
Weekend plans: My brother’s birthday is the 9th, so we’ll celebrate this weekend.
What’s your go-to music genre?: Broadly speaking, alternative, but I’m fairly eclectic.
Oh Mellon, you are so adorable. I hope he starts to sleep better soon for all of you.
Haul: nothing cosmetic this week, I just ordered some skin care products from Skin Physics and Skin Doctors (brands I like) that were on sale. Daily moisturisers, skin serums etc.
Weekend Plans: Well, I was chained to the kitchen this week with all of the birthdays!
Friday – Olivia’s birthday party was moved to our place because of the rain. So we had 12 children, 5 siblings and a raft of adults at our place last night. We had some disco dancing, games and lots of food. The male siblings loved the Brio train tracks out and were besotted with them, the girls loved the disco. I was pretty exhausted by the end of the evening…
Saturday – today’s the big auction for the house that both of my sons are going for. We have our fingers crossed that it will go for a price that they can afford. Wish us luck!
Saturday night – we are going out for dinner to a french restaurant for a family celebration of my husband’s 70th.
Sunday – much need laundry….
Monday – it’s a public holiday here – Labor Day weekend. Not sure what I will be doing.
Music Genre: I like listening to a wide range of music – country (Reba McEntire, Emmylou Harris), Gaelic (Karen Matheson, Clannad) and just contempory like Thelma Plum. My all round favourite singers are Eva Cassidy, Linda Ronstadt, Tina Arena. I just like female singers.
Mellan’s a cutie! He’s a oldie but a goodie, and getting old ain’t for chumps. Blessing that he has a loving family to care for him in his old age.
Haul:
Sephora 15% off Bite lip stick in Stinger, Charlotte Tilbury Pillow eye liner, Fenty Cute Ting, Spa’getti, Fenty clear gloss Bomb, and Tom Ford Lip Spark in Throb
Weekend Plans:
Pick up some staple supplies in preparation for possible Coronavirus isolation/ hurricane disasters. Dinner out with friends possibly if I don’t punk out. I keep wanting to stay home like a drag ,lol. The pollen is heavy in Tampa and my allergies are bad.
What’s your go-to music genre?
Even though I have a Sirius subscription I never listen to it . I love music but I listen to Audiobooks and read a lot. R&B, Jazz, Rapp (in small doses) and Classical are my favorites.
Aww sweet Mellan! That face ❤
Rediscovery: MAC Jubilee lipstick – not a fan of the Lustre formula but am using up the tube. It’s lovely with the look I’ve been wearing with Pat McGrath Mothership VI Midnight Sun.
Haul: MAC Petal Power collection – Skew, See Sheer and Craving lipsticks and Lightscapade highlighter.
Weekend plans: Relax! Take out and catch up on shows tonight, gym and pedi tomorrow, facial and mani Sunday.
What’s your go-to music genre?: Apparently right now it’s Tropical house. I know that because about a month ago, I typed into google “what kind of genre is (title of song)” and that was my answer. I’ve been wanting to set up playlists on spotify (finally) and youtube for background ambient music and all 3 songs I typed in were in that category. If not that, 80s, 90s and early aughts R&B, Pop.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I bought NARS Coeur Battant and Dominate blushes-they’re supposed to arrive tomorrow. 2 down, 3 to go! My aunt dropped something off for my mom while I was at work, and she also dropped off a couple makeup items she thought I might like: Maybelline SuperStay Stay Exceptional lip crayon and Avon Smoky Quartz Glimmer Shadow (aka liquid eyeshadow).
Weekend plans: Worked all day and ran errands today, trip to the pharmacy tomorrow, probably laundry Sunday.
What’s your go-to music genre?: Most variations of pop, rock, or alternative.
Haul/Rediscoveries: So many blushes — sorted through my makeup and really appreciating how many good ones I have (Laura Geller baked blushes: Too Faced’s heart blushes; Clinique Cheek Pops were some of my more joyous rediscoveries.)
Weekend plans: lots of cleaning (someone’s coming to see our apartment/possibly buy out our lease); work; hoping to fit an episode or two of The Mandalorian into the evening.
What’s your go-to music genre?: Latelt I’ve been listening to a lot of ‘90s pop!
Haul/Rediscoveries: I have recently bought Shiseido’s stick concealer and I am really amazed. My undereyes have never looked better – for the whole day. I am a soft, light make-up kind of a girl, and I like the Glossier one, NARS soft matter concealer, te Age-Rewind, but after the whole week of using the Shiseido one, I think it;s the best for me.
In the rediscoveries category, I have two products:
1) NYX soft matte cream in Cannes – I loooooove this shade and I have recently went back to it… I just wish it lasted longer… I wish Lisa Eldridge or Hourlgass had this exact shade… Any ideas for a better quality dupe?
2) Estee Lauder Double Wear Light foundation, the one in the tube. I tried some foundations, but this one has outperformed all of them. It blends nicely on my skin, giving it a nice light/medium coverage, performs very nice throughout the day, it does not melt down off my oily T-zone, while not drying out my cheeks.
Weekend plans: gym & jogging, brunch with a friend, running errants, taxes, seeing Bombshell with a friend.
What’s your go-to music genre? It does not exist 🙂 I need a mix everyday. My recent discovery is Khruangbin, I need to have Explosions in the Sky, Tides From Nebula and previous Tool records, I have recently discovered Stara Rzeka, Rosalia, Weyes Blood. I get energised by Jannelle Monae, the Avalanches and… Queen! A die-hard fan of Queen. Tycho soothes my nerves and brings some sunny spells. Chopin and Bach put me back in balance. I woudl love to have PJ Harvey;s voice, she is so great! I could go on forever…
I love the Double Wear Light!
Haul/Rediscoveries: Since reading Christine’s review on the L’Oreal Super Lustrous Lipstick line I’ve gone out and purchased quite a number of them! Helps to have drugstore rewards and they often run sales on Revlon items too. I went from three Revlon lippies to about eight in a week.
Weekend plans: Still recouping from spine surgery. Not going anywhere.
What’s your go-to music genre?: Catching up on Eurovision’s entries for the upcoming contest. Got my kids hooked on Russia’s Little Big, which is really a band out of the box. A number of countries are still holding internal contests to determine who they will send.
