Does social media influence your makeup style?
If a particular product or technique gets a lot of buzz and feels like something that I’d like or would want to incorporate into my routine, I definitely am game to try and often do! If it’s not something that would normally appeal to me, then I wouldn’t just try it because it is popular, though. Like I hope to never go back to thin brows, even if everyone says it’s all the rage!
To some extent, it has. It’s definitely helped with my tweaking my techniques and application methods, like going back to doing more colorful or sculpted out eye looks after the blah boring looks I did during the 90’s and 00’s. Even with my going back to doing something I hadn’t in awhile, ie; bronzing, contouring. There are certain trends that I hope influencers NEVER bring back, though, and you mentioned one of them, Christine, thin brows. Just nope! I’m not a fan of smudgey, undefined looking lipstick that I sometimes see on IG, either.
Most of the time it doesn’t. I tend to like to do things my own way, and while I certainly see some looks shared by brands or artists and think “Ooooh I really love that!” I almost never try to duplicate it.
The only exception is if I decide to participate in a social media based makeup challenge with friends (ie, a 30 day challenge with different prompts each day like “your go to look” or “based on a movie.”). That will inspire me to get out of the box and try new things!
In the past I have also used Pinterest to help me create a look for specific character-based dance performances. But rather than duplicating a look, I’d collect multiple looks I liked and see what I could take from them and combine to be something that would look good on my face with the products I had available to me and would suit the character. I haven’t done that for a while though!
Social media influences my make-up style as long as it’s within my make-up style. 😆
While I do like to try new products and techniques, and to switch make-up looks almost everyday, my style is quite well defined and social media will not influence me outside my boundaries. I’m willing to try new techniques and new products only if they fit in my routine.
For example, I don’t like highlighters on me; you’ll never find me jumping on the wagon of different highlighter colors and finishes (e.g. the blue / pink tinted highlighter trend). I don’t like lip glosses and doe foot applicators for lip products, so I never jumped into the liquid lipstick trend.
I simply just don’t care what are the trends; make-up and fashion wise, I’m following myself, not the social media, even if I’m in a totally different space.
A little bit. I like to keep on top of new products, techniques, and styles, and adapt them to my own look. However, I mostly do my own think. I wouldn’t call myself a slave to fads or someone who has to follow every trend.
I trust what I see in my own mirror. I won’t wear something that I don’t like just because it is all over social media. Highlighter does not flatter me nor do triangles of pale concealer under my eyes. I try out looks I see on social media but only if I already have the same or similar products on hand.
No, social media has absolutely no influence on my makeup style at all. I do my makeup as to what suits me and what I am wearing. I trust my own instincts for what looks right for me, which means that I don’t wear pink eyeshadow or lipstick, no highlighters or eye liner.
I agree- if something is interesting And or appealing to me, I would want to try it!

Definitely! I see social media as an extension of what’s new and interesting to try out in fashion generally 🙂
