- Haul/Rediscoveries: I bought some press on nails from Etsy shops, which are fun to play with (I’m using shorter-term adhesive stickers instead of actual glue), but I don’t know if I can hang. Other items: Anastasia Norvina Mini Palettes, Hakuhodo brushes x4, Guerlain Rouge Gs x3, Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde.
- Weekend plans: Writing reviews, pulling dupes, entering dupes, rinse and repeat!!
- Did you do anything for Halloween?: Mellan put his Harry Potter cape and tie on for a bit to amuse his mother, and then we proceeded to turn off the lights, pull the curtains/blinds, and do our best impression of “nobody lives here.” As Mellan gets older, it’s easier on him to keep things nice and quiet.

Haul: Huda Beauty Obsessions Rich palette. It’s so perfect.
Rediscoveries: None to speak of, really. Though, I have started using some face brushes again to apply my base products, and it’s been nice not to have sticky make up fingers, lol.
Weekend plans: Probably a lot of cleaning and rescheduling mine and my husband’s anniversary since we were taking care of our sick son and I fell sick as well when we had originally planned to go out for our anniversary.
Did you do anything for Halloween?: We didn’t go trick or treating with our son! It started sleeting sideways and got really cold all of a sudden last night, so we stayed inside and watched The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with him and had a relaxing (warm) evening together.
I hope you are all feeling better now Celesta. As it was sleeting and freezing in your neck of the woods, it was absolutely boiling hot in ours. Luckily where my grandchildren went trick or treating there was lots of shade, otherwise they wouldn’t have gone either. It was still nearly 30C Celsius at midnight.
Cuddling up in the warm watching a lovely show sounds like a good plan.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I bought the last Pat McGrath Nocturnal Nirvana quad, afraid it would sell out before the sale. So, so pleased – it is like painting with magic. It is unfortunate the gold in it is the same as in Ritualistic Rose, but regardless, this is now my favorite palette. Since she hit my wallet hard this month I’m probably done with makeup for the year.
Weekend plans: Go on a hike or hang out at a park while the weather is nice!
Did you do anything for Halloween?: I reorganized my furniture since I knew the neighbors wouldn’t complain if I made noise that evening, lol. Adulting! I created a nice electronics-free reading/studying space 🙂
*bought the last one at my local Sephora.
It’s lovely to have a quiet reading nook in your place. You will love it.
OMG, Mellan…he is so adorable I can’t stand it!!!! 🙂
Haul: I lost a little control during the Macy’s 50% off sale on MAC eyeshadow singles. I had planned to get just Shroom and Woodwinked, two shades that have been on my want list for several years, but I walked away with four shades (also got Twinks and Cranberry). I’m in love with Cranberry. What a gorgeous shade!
Weekend plans: Dinner with friends, visit family, chores, try to come up with a good way to organize my MAC eyeshadow collection without depotting them.
Did you do anything for Halloween? This past weekend I went to a Halloween party. Yesterday, on actual Halloween, I wore orange lipstick and read a Stephen King book before bed. That’s about it. I don’t do costumes. But I did successfully avoid eating candy!
I also love Woodwinked and Cranberry! I never believed a color like Cranberry will flatter me, but it works! I always buy only the single eyeshadow (the version for Pro Palette); tried to depot an eyeshadow once and it was messy and damaging. 😆
Those MAC eyeshadows are all longtime favorites of mine! Woodwinked and Cranberry are really beautiful together. I’ve also always loved Cranberry as the main color in a smoky eye. Shroom is a total classic and makes a killer cheek highlighter too. Good picks all around!
I have just looked up those shades and they are gorgeous, especially Woodwinked and Cranberry – a perfect combination too. I have Sandstorm in City Colour, it is a perfect dupe for Woodwinked. I am going to get the Cranberry shade too because, funnily enough, it works on me.
Good on you for avoiding the candy and I hope the orange lipstick looked OK on you. Now a Stephen King book would give me nightmares!
You picked some gorgeous shades, Seraphine! I might buy Cranberry and Woodwinked.
Haul: Nothing yet, but I’m about to drive down to Portland and a sales tax free VIB Sale shopping haul is in my immediate future 🙂
Rediscoveries: I’ve been working through some of my ColourPop liquid lipsticks and being reminded how much I like some of the colors, especially Notion and Hutch.
Weekend plans: PORTLAND HERE WE COME! We’re going to see the Christopher Marley exhibit at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), shop at Powells City of Books (a multi-story bookstore that takes up a literal city block), hit Sephora, eat good food and drink good booze. And test out taking our Chevy Bolt for a long trip!
What I did for Halloween: It’s Seattle Restaurant Week so we had dinner reservations — did not realize the neighborhood the restaurant was in a neighborhood that does a big main street trick-or-treat. Parking was an adventure but it made for fun people-watching and our meal was delicious 🙂 I did two costumes: during the day, even though I work from home, I dressed up as a stock photo hacker and sent a photo to my work chat for my own amusement. And for dinner I was an insect collection — wore a t-shirt with a variety of humorously labeled insects (ie, R2-Bee2), a whole bunch of insect themed costume jewelry, and my Toms with bugs embroidered on them. I was pretty pleased with myself because it was cute but also allowed for jeans and a sweater since it was cooooold.
Your costume sounds adorable!
Do you have any favorite restaurants or food trucks in Portland? I’m based out of Seattle and always get SO EXCITED to head there for the consistently delicious and comparatively super affordable food options.
OMG yes the food is so good down here in Portland! Let me try to think of some of my favorite places:
Last time we were here was for our anniversary and we went to a place called Arden which was amazing! That’s a more expensive nice dinner option.
We also ate at Revelry which was great — same owner as Joule and Revel up in Seattle.
Bamboo Sushi is awesome, but of course they just opened a location in Seattle so that’s not a Portland exclusive anymore.
I like Bollywood Theater for Indian street food.
I think Blue Star has better doughnuts than Voodoo — more of a fancy foodie experience than a weird Portland experience, so it depends on your taste.
I’ll let you know if we discover any new gems on this trip. Tonight we just had a really simple dinner of sandwiches at the Portland Cider tap room, which was 30 (!) ciders on tap, so if you like hard cider I hiiiiighly recommend it. I could easily go back tomorrow for another tasting flight and get all different things even if none of the taps have changed.
Now that I read about your costume, I realize I was right about who Christopher Marley is. The exquisite insects guy with the art fashioned from brilliant beetles, etc. had a calendar once and kept it for years. I’d K*** to see that exhibit. Is it traveling?
I know, I am so exited about it!!! I have had so many things over the years with his art — calendars, mouse pad, notebooks, jigsaw puzzle… I can’t believe I’m going to go see it in person tomorrow and it looks like he has really expanded beyond insects. A friend of mine down here already went and took a ton of photos which I mostly ignored because I want to see it in person, but her photo dumps were themed by different animal groups.
I will try to find out for you if it is traveling! It just opened here last month and I don’t know how long the exhibit is planned for.
What a perfect weekend you have install for yourself – that sounds like one I would enjoy too: Science, books, makeup, food and wine – Yep that’s me!
Luckly you booked for dinner! The whole atmosphere would have been a such a buzz. Your costumes would have been sensational.
Enjoy your weekend!
Haul/Rediscoveries:
>Sephora sale on a Low-Buy y’all!!
*ABH Dipbrow Gel (backup)
*Guerlain Mascara
*Pretty Vulgar Nail Polish
*Too Faced Glitter Glue
>Rediscovery:
*I have ABH Sultry, UD Born to Run, UD Naked 1, Viseart Bridal Satin and Viseart Liaison. I quite literally duped every palette I thought I wanted at the Sephora sale.
Weekend plans: House remodel project (read: construction); meal prep; play with horses and dogs.
Did you do anything for Halloween?: Watched a movie at home with Dear Hubby and a glass of vino.
Mellan with those big ol’ glasses is both adorable and hilarious! ?
Haul: All I can say is that the day is still young yet! Just after midnight, I hit pay on my Sephora cart and bought PMG Subversive Mothership III Palette, Fenty Glossy Posse mini Gloss Bombs, and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex.
Weekend plans: Food shopping, hair, possibly nails, meeting on Sunday. Possibly hit Sephora late today to find a good match for the CT Flawless Filter to use as a subtle highlight or underneath my foundation. Something lighter than my MJ Dew Drops because it’s now our version of late autumn/winter. Or…keep an eye out for Hourglass Unlocked Edit redux!
What did you do for Halloween? Nothing but sit home and hope that no one knocked! Thankfully, no one did, whew. 6 years living in this neighborhood, and I don’t believe I’ve ever had any trick or treaters. I’m guessing that parents bring them to one of the malls? Idk?
That was a lovely set of purchases from Sephora, I am sure you are going to adore the latest PMG Mothership palette.
We didn’t have any trick or treaters in our street either – just at the local park and shopping villages I guess. Much easier and safer that way.
I am envious of you coming into autumn/winter Nancy – it has been so horribly hot here over the past few days.
Haul/Rediscoveries: Another week of nothing new.
Weekend plans: Nothing planned for tomorrow (yet), except the regular cleaning / groceries / meal prep. But on Sunday I have tickets to a `Blue Man` show.
Did you do anything for Halloween?: No, although I like seeing people in costumes, I don’t partake in the celebration. A co-worker gave me yesterday a pair of cat ears (just the metal / wire small head crown, nothing too obvious) I wore at work, but that’s it.
Ooh! Christine! Which Hakuhodo brushes? Are we going to see a review for them?
Hi M!
I don’t know – I wouldn’t count on me for anything brush related for reviews!
Haul/Rediscoveries: I ordered and received the Lunar Beauty Moon Spell palette this week and she’s gorgeous, I love her. I also picked up Coloured Raine dupes of the Too Faced Gingerbread Man and Gingerbread Girl liquid lipsticks and I’m happy with them, but damn they are intense! I’m not used to wearing bold lip colors so it’ll take some getting used to.
Weekend plans: Gonna see Jojo Rabbit at Alamo Drafthouse tonight and then maybe go to a brand new grocery store this weekend lol. But other than that, just trying to catch up on sleep!!
Did you do anything for Halloween?: I didn’t do anything on the actual day except go out in normal clothes to a local bar, BUT last weekend I dressed up as a bright orange traffic cone and went to an old coworker’s Halloween party.
Mellan looks like he is going to conjure up something mischievous. Such a darling boy.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I have already placed my Sephora order but there is no makeup in it, only replacement hair care. Right now I feel that I have all the makeup I need.
Weekend plans: Visit to a friend with a house in the country. In a week or so, all the leaves will have fallen up there so just in time.
Did I do anything for Halloween? Not myself but it was fun to see the talen that so many people have for costumes and makeup.
Haul: even though the Sephora site said that the YTTP Maqui oil wasn’t at either of the nearby Sephora stores, I called my “local” and, sure enough, they had it so they put it aside for me and I picked up that, the Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleanser (sorry, nothing “anti-aging” about it but I like it as a cleanser) and my standby Boscia cleanser as well as another (!) Sephora Cappuccino pencil liner. I was going to get the Lipstories in Spring Break and Hong Kong by Night but, honestly, in the store lighting, I couldn’t really tell if I liked EITHER shade! I have a few days still to go back and try them out when I have more time!
Weekend plans: going for dinner with my sister in law and then to the local potters’ guild show and sale, as we do every year. My sis in law is really an angel on earth and she gets by on a pretty tight budget so I like to spoil her a bit by treating her to dinner. Tomorrow, I have a training session and then not much else. If the weather dries sufficiently, we might get out and deal with the carpet of leaves that is EVERYWHERE.
Halloween: I had a training session (rescheduled from Monday) and I went dressed as a witch (black workout attire, green shadow on my lips and under my eyes and to make lines and wrinkles and a witch hat festooned with hanging bats and spiders that I added; my trainer was dressed as a bunny; I said to her that since she was a bunny and I was a witch, together we were a “bitch”!). Got home in time to give out treats to the kids who came ’round (we even hand out to teens so long as they’re in costume; my daughter loves Halloween and continued to trick or treat til well into her 20’s!) Then, just as everything was drawing to a close, we had a power failure in our neighbourhood – it was so dark and no street lights and dark and rainy and foggy as well so I couldn’t even see my way to the cabinet where I keep a flashlight. Then the power came on about an hour later and then went off again for several hours. Hubs uses a CPAP machine and so couldn’t sleep at all.
I have the Hong Kong by Night Sephora lipstories lipstick and it is a bright vivid orangey leaning bronzey shade. Festival by Nights, another shade in the series, is more bronze cocoa – if that helps you. The lighting in stores can really make products look different to what they are in natural light.
So kind of you to treat your sister in law, I am sure both of you will enjoy the dinner and potters’ gild show.
Your costume sounds hilarious and I am sure you looked quite a picture, with the green shadows and witches hat.
I hate power blackouts, and in your case, with your husband on the CPAP machine, quite debilitating. Did he get any sleep at all? I hope the trial he has been working on has come to end and that he will be getting some rest this weekend.
It’s funny – I actually like power outages (so long as they don’t last a really long time so that food in the freezer starts to defrost, etc.) – there’s something about the absolute quiet and the necessity of doing stuff like reading by candle light/flash light and talking rather than having the tv, computer, etc. on. But people dependent on any medical devices – even something like a CPAP, which isn’t life threatening – is a real problem, I realize.
Orangey and bronze aren’t really great shades for me. Funny but in the store, Hong Kong Nights didn’t look quite so orange but that lighting – ugh!
Mellan looked very cute in his costume!
Haul: Urban Decay 4-Pc. Honey Pot Set. Apocalyptic Beauty October LOTM Club Pumpkin Queen Collection (Gourd matte pumpkin e/s, Glamoween metallic pumpkin spice e/s, Witching Hour matte black liquid lipstick, and Will-o-the-Wisp iridescent orange with multichomatic sparkle lipgloss topcoat).
Rediscoveries: I’ve been feeling like shopping my stash this month: BH Cosmetics x Caril Bybel Deluxe Edition Palette, Tarte Tarteist PRO Palette, and UD Vice Lipsticks in Bruise and Zealot.
Weekend plans: Paperwork. I think I’m coming down with my son’s bug, so we’ll see whether I feel up to doing much else.
Did you do anything for Halloween?: No. We gave out candy, but my brother mostly did that. I watched horror movies with him. Hubby worked, older son is still recovering from his illness and stayed home, and younger son was playing games online with a friend.
That’s the thing when you are the nurse – you catch the bug! I hope it doesn’t affect you too much and you can get some peace and quiet over the weekend.
Don’t do too much….
Thanks. I did take it easy. I’m getting into the coughing and congestion stage, so I won’t be doing much for the next couple days, at least.
Haul: CT Gorgeous Glowing Beauty palette, bkr lip gloss trio (which has the stupidest packaging imaginable), Clean Apothecary rose brush cleaner, UNITS 200 face brush set (unbelievably soft), Good Molecules Hyaluronic serum, rms luminzer set, a niacinamide toner, rose toner x2 (different brands), Jouer Rose Cut Gems blush palette, some Juno sponges, Colourpop Bye Bye Birdie palette, the pink blush stick duo, the rose and gold jelly much shadows and one of the blotted lip and gloss sets.
Weekend plans: Contentious as it may be, I may try to steal the neighbours cat. It’s barely older then a kitten still, was covered in fleas (I dosed it and wormed it a couple of weeks ago), always seems to be hungry since it sneaks into our house to eat our cats food, is somewhat starved for attention (spent 10 minutes coaxing it close enough to pat and then 30 seconds later it was in my lap, headbutting me in the face) and even though we christened the cat Steve in passing, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Steve is actually a girl and in the family way, if her belly is anything to go by. When I say steal, I mean catch and take to the vet and ask their advice on whether the cat goes back to status quo or whether to pretend we just “found” it and take it to the lovely no kill shelter we adopted our cats from. Our neighbours are friendly enough people if we see them in the driveway, but their priorities are very different, eg, lots of cars, parties and booze, the occasional visit from the authorities. They’re not criminals or nasty people by any means, their kid is always super polite, etc but I don’t think they are particularly dedicated pet owners, even they also very recently got 2 new puppies. It’s a dilemma.
Halloween: Nah, I took my team at work out for a team building exercise at an escape room and then over the road to a local pub for burgers though. I don’t think I even ate any chocolate or lollies. Halloween doesn’t really have much traction in New Zealand.
You certainly do have a dilemma on your hands, but I think it would be the kindest thing to ‘adopt’ the cat and take care of it. Clearly she is ignored by her owners and is not even desexed….It sounds as if they wouldn’t really miss her at all. I just think that people shouldn’t own pets if they can’t take care of them. My twin sister found her cat that way, ignored, starving, flea ridden etc. Her owners never missed the cat (they werre 5 doors up from her).
You are a very kind and caring person.
OMG – Mellon looks so adorable as Harry Potter, what a darling he is.
Haul: Cosmetic Capital (an Aus online retailer) was having a BiG sale on L’Oreal True Match foundations and I ordered a couple of bottles of the Rose Porcelain shade.
Weekend Plans
After a few days of searing heat, the cool change has arrived with welcome rain. I intensely dislke summer already. Saturday will be about shopping and cleaning up after having both Olivia and Lachlan over yesterday. Train tracks for him and arts/craft for her…
Sunday – hopefully a drive and Sunday lunch out somewhere….
Halloween: It’s becoming bigger here every year. On Thursday afternoon (the 31st here) I had Olivia and dressed her up in a Halloween costume of her choosing. I did some eye makeup on her, using Vice 2 – which she absolutely adored and couldn’t help swatching her favourite shades (the pinks, purples, gold and silver). And I incorporated most of those shades in a subtle look. As a lipstick, I used the Maybelline’s Molten Lava on her….
Both she and her brother went trick or treating with their mum and some friends in their local shopping village, which had been set up as a Halloween event. It just saved everyone from knocking on doors of houses. The village has a playground in the centre and the kids just played and the local shopkeepers offered the treats.
I can understand Christine about Mellon not being to disturbed by visitors etc.
On another note, I hope that the recent bushfires your country has been experiencing in California eases and that any Temptalia readers are safe and well. It has been devastating, from the news reports we have been receiving.
Haul/Rediscoveries:
Weekend plans: I worked all day. There should be a lot of relaxing tomorrow and Sunday, but we’ll also have to go to the grocery store (there wasn’t a lot on the list and it’s suddenly cold-40s and 50s during the day, 30s and 40s in the evening-so we kinda put it off).
Did you do anything for Halloween?: I dressed up in a live-action Maleficent costume in order to pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters. I did my makeup to match-brown eyeshadow and red lipstick and, in an approximation of the (either digital or prosthetic) effects they did on Angelina Jolie’s cheekbones, I used UD Naked Skin Skywalk highlighting fluid along my cheekbones and contoured the entire underside (rather than just the lower hollow like I usually do). There were very few trick-or-treaters, due to the cold temperature, high winds, and snow flurries (they melted as soon as they hit anything), but the ones who did liked my costume, and so did their accompanying parents!
Haul:
Beautylish
Natasha Denona Metropolis and Biba palettes
Sonia G Worker Pro
Smith & Cult Nail Polish (Exit The Void)
Sephora
Hourglass Ghost Ambient Lighting Palette (quad)
Lancome Bi-Facil
Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Highlight 01
Guerlain Goldenland Meteorites Pearls
Tom Ford Pretty Baby quad
Pat McGrath LUST Gloss in Twilo
Natasha Denona Mini Lila and Star palettes
Deva Curl Leave In Decadence Conditioner
Weekend plans: Spent today with my parents cooking and helping with other chores. Going into the office tomorrow to catch up from a busy week and then maybe a stamping mani in the evening. Sunday is a friend’s birthday party at a winery.
Did you do anything for Halloween?: Lights off and watched Pitch Perfect and Deadpool with Chinese takeout!
Top notch haul!
Thanks, Tammy!
Haul: I went in person to the Sephora in JC Penny’s and picked up Drunk Elephant skin care for my daughter, Laura Mercier Translucent powder for her, and some testers of other AHA products that might be cheaper than DE. For myself I picked up the travel size Peekee and JuJu bars and ……..the Marc Jacobs Steel-etto palette. I just couldn’t resist it. I used my 20% and will go back tomorrow but likely will place an on-line order because the little Sephora doesn’t have my skin care. I was able to swatch all three of the Huda Neutrals palettes and I almost picked up the Light one. I may still get it. I liked it a lot.
Weekend: I am spending the weekend with my daughter as she is unlikely to get home much, if at all, in the near future. We are only 3 hours apart but she is working 2 jobs and so there is precious little spare time. I need to do some grocery shopping for her as there is literally nothing in her little apartment to eat. I don’t know what she has been living on since her Dad left a week ago. She wants to do it on her own but juice and Kraft Mac And Cheese just doesn’t cut it. I can remember my last month in nursing school and I had run out of money. I worked for a year and saved every penny and was able to pay for all but the last semester of school so I didn’t want to call my parents. I lived on Wheaties and milk for about 2 weeks. When they got there for my graduation, I was doing my last shift at the hospital. I had told them to ask my downstairs neighbor and she would let them in. When I got home about midnight, they were in my apartment and had gone grocery shopping already. I asked them if they had visited with my neighbor and my Dad said they hadn’t. When I asked how he got in he told me he used his credit card to wiggle the lock. I was wearing just my white tights, slip, underclothes and my cap and my Dad thought I had been mugged or molested. I had to tell him it was tradition on the last hospital shift your instructor rips your “school” uniform off you! Anyway, I know we have to do these things sometimes but when I can buy her food it is crazy to go hungry!
Halloween: No, I have sort of fallen out of the habit living in the woods in Montana. It isn’t like I am going to get any trick or treater’s. I do miss seeing all the little ones dressed in the costumes, though.
Haul: Beautylish (gift card event): Sonia G Builder Pro, Crease Pro, and Worker Pro, and Good Molecules Super Peptide Serum.
Weekend Plans: Pack away Fall clothes and bring out the early winter wear. Will be watching a football and hockey game for sure, while also sorting and filing paperwork.
Halloween: I have a skeleton cut out top that goes over the top I’m wearing, adorned by a skeleton necklace that I wear on Halloween. I live in a small apt building with no kids, so no trick-or-treating here.
