Smashbox Holiday 2019 Collection
Release Date + About the Launch
From the editor: Smashbox’s holiday sets just debuted at Ulta and Sephora this morning! The holiday collection features three bundled sets; one for cheeks and eyes, one for lips, and one for skin. There is also a trio of cheek colors in a palette (which is the only thing that really caught my eye for potential review). Let me know what you’re most looking forward to and/or what you’d like to see reviews on (and what I should skip!) — as always, I can’t review everything but I like to review what readers want to see as much as possible!

That Planetary Trio looks so dang interesting! I think it’s the one thing out of Smashbox holiday that has me extremely curious to see how it works out!
I can attest to the fact that the Minimalist e/s palette is a practical, lovely palette to have so that set that includes it with a 2nd palette and a cheek palette is probably really worth the price.
I love the marbling on the Planetary Cheek Palette. I hope that is not an overspray.
To be honest, nothing much is jumping out at me here so I could actually pass on everything as far as reviews go but I am sure there will be many who want to see the small palettes and the cheek palettes. Historically the little e/s palettes have been hit or miss in terms of quality. I just haven’t seen anything from Smashbox in years, that really got me excited. The new foundation was something I was really looking forward to and frankly, it bombed for both my daughter and myself. I have very dry, mature skin and the formula just caked on my skin no matter how I tried to apply it. My daughter has oily skin and it is marketed as a very matte finish. It was a slip and slide mess at the 4 hour mark with foundation breaking down and moving around. The good note, she found a shade match pretty easily. We were both really disappointed. I didn’t expect to like it because of my dry skin and it being “so matte” .
Anything un-orange!
These look about the right size of eye palettes and cheek/highlighters. They all good pretty good shades.
I know that the neutral eyeshadow palette is boring and people with large make-up collections already have tons of these, but would be a nice holiday present for someone just starting a make-up collection (especially if it’s good quality). I assume it’s so hard for you Christine to decide between reviewing for her main audience (which is mostly beauty lovers with bigger collections) and for someone just wanting to know if a new product is good.
I’m very curious about the Planetary Cheek Palette. I have one cover shot palette that I find to be absolutely a joy to work with and the size is perfect for travel. I’d be curious to know how minimalist performs as a cool toned lover, but I’d buy that one individually as I’m not interested in the other products that come with the set.
With lip gloss, I never feel like I need a review of each one. A review of the formula and swatches is great. If I know that the gloss isn’t sticky and lasts a decent amount of time, that’s enough. Then it’s just a matter of what colors I like.
