Natasha Denona Metropolis Eyeshadow Palette Swatches
Natasha Denona Metropolis Eyeshadow Palette ($129.00 for 1.35 oz.) includes 28 eyeshadows housed in a “midi” format–so they’re smaller than the brand’s full-sized eyeshadows (0.078 oz.), but they’re by no means small (0.048 oz. each)–they’re nearly the size of a typical full-sized eyeshadow! The palette is limited edition and available exclusively at Sephora. Worth noting, most of the matte shades are the Cream-Powder formula, which feels updated and more comparable to Biba but possibly a bit creamier. Here are swatches of all 28 shades!

Metropois? Is that even a word? “City peas”? Oh, I see now it’s a typo and it’s actually “Metropolis”. Nevertheless, this looks like a lovely palette with lots of the murky bronze and brown shades I love but given the price in Canada and the fact that I can’t see it in store, it’s a pass for me, though if I were to walk into a Sephora and find it on the shelf, I would probably snap it up.

LOL! I love this! It suddenly makes the palette seem so intriguing to me.
But Azoic? I had to check to reassure myself that it meant ‘with no sign of life….’. That’s downright weird. There are some lovely muted looks in this city.
I really like this colour story, reminds me a little of the NARS Man Ray Love Game palette from a while back. Fortunately this is inaccessible for me, I might have gone for it even with all those identical looking golds and bronzes 🙂
I don’t have a ND palette yet, but this one looks SO GOOD. But, the price is staggering and I REALLY don’t need another eyeshadow palette, especially a ginormous one. Where the heck could I even store that thing? My ByAlegory shelves are way too small.
I am swooning over the shade Lethal! I either need to find an exact dupe or see if someone would be willing to sell it out of their palette as a single…hmm……
Third mega-palette so far, with another one incoming from Viseart soon. I absolutely LOVE the shades in this one! Those swampy greens, green-golds, and teals, mmmmmm! But, I totally ABHOR its scattered layout. That just rubs me the wrong way, like petting a cat backwards. Idk if I’ll be getting it or not, realistically speaking. I’ve already chosen UD Naked Honey and PMG Subversive Mothership, so I’m fairly over the brim already!

This is a really beautiful color story, and I’m actually considering getting it, even though I hate the price tag. But what is up with dupes within the same palettes here lately?? Stain & Chrism look the same to me. Rust, Fuse, Penny & Blaze all look too similar to tell apart. Enigma & Symbol are very similar. Drives me crazy when they do that within the same palette! Makes me feel like I’m buying Morphe with their 4 light browns and 6 medium coppers in the same palette. Ugh.
I was thinking the same thing. Even if they swatch with visible differences (however minor), they’re not going to be distinct from each other in application; $129 for a palette where 6 or 7 colors are completely redundant.

True, but it is an “anniversary” palette so it does make since to have done this, take color scheme “bits” from all of her previous palettes. I think this palette is her attempt to have newbies be willing to pay out for her palette (smaller pans, diverse colors). Since I only have two of her palettes (Star& Sunset), I’m finally willing to purchase this one versus the Gold, Biba, and Sunrise that though I keep looking at over and over, I just don’t want all the colors in each. Safari is the ONLY one I’d consider after this one (at least with her current collection) because it has so many mattes (but since it tested iffy, I have decided I just need to find dupes for it or wait for it to be on sale).
I’m torn between Metropolis and Gold, but this one is speaking to me because I’m such a fan of the unique colour scheme. It reminds me of a long exposure photograph taken of city lights. My only complaint is the lack of transition shades (for me at least). I would have to pair it with Biba, and this is where I bounce back to wanting Gold! 🙂

I don’t own any ND palette because I always thought it was ridiculous to have that much product and as a consequence super high prices. And I didn’t feel the colour stories appealing enough. But I’m wondering whether this one would make a good first ND palette…
After seeing Mel Thompson’s video on it, I would saw yes. It has dupes from al most all of her palettes, so this one would be a good one to have an overall taste of the others. Also, the pan sizes are smaller so you would probably really use it up. Also, it’s good if you have good blendable mattes elsewhere, because the ONLY drawback I can see it the lack of transition – mattes. Last, if you like creamy, smooth metallic shadows, I’d say go for it!
Wow, thanks for your input! All of your points make sense, now the lack of mattes isn’t really a drawback to me. I kinda learned makeup watching Lisa Eldridge, Wayne Goss or Pixiwoo, and transition shades weren’t a thing back then. I’ll use a crease colour depending on the other colours I’m using, etc.
I’ll wait to see if France gets the palette and I’ll go play with it a little in-store, to see if it’s worth it hehe ^^
The colors are so gorgeous but the layout here is leaving me frustrated. With so many redundant shades, you think “pro palette, for many skintones” but if that’s so, why split them up so you have to go hunting for the right variety of the color? So it’s a pro palette jumbled up and marketed as a consumer palette. And the consumer doesn’t need Stain & Chism & Pure, or Fuse & Penny & Blaze, or even Rhizome & Rope. Take out the redundancies and leave it jumbled, or keep them in and don’t try to trick my eye by splitting the redundancies up.
That last sentence is precisely how I feel about this one and the ABH Norvina Vol. I Palette, SaffyTaffy. I would prefer both to look organized and have zero redundancies, though I’d be happier if it were even just one or the other!
I remember getting her Star palette several holiday seasons ago and thinking the exact same thing. Why are there dupes in this palette scattered around?? Ugh.
Ok Christine, you are officially killing me. I had written this palette off for the moment and was going to get the Tilbury one. Then I decided Tilbury palette was pretty but too much like things I already have from her. Then I patted myself on the back for saving money. THEN I saw your swatches…and I just ordered. Like I said…. 😀
Absolutely gorgeous! I want it, but at that price, I will squint at my Born to Run palette and pretend. They look somewhat simular… Right? 🙂
Same here. I’m only really attracted to the colorful shades and I think I’m pretty well covered with all the palettes and singles i swatch intending to create looks but never get around to using.
This is beautiful but I am not getting that “must have it” feeling. Too many warm shades and shades that would look so similar once applied. At this price I want to be so over the moon about the ND palette that I eventually purchase that I have no buyer’s remorse at all. That’s OK, I’ll wait. 😉

The shade names are pretty cool, if not obviously cohesive (there’s a militaristic dystopian vibe, but maybe I’m wrong). Although if I had to name an eyeshadow after myself, it wouldn’t be orange.
“militaristic dystopian vibe”, you hit it on the head, but because of the quads etc, I think you can sdo so much with it. I hope to find out if no one else does a better palette or my dream one (winter frost theme).
I must admit that I really do like this one, there are only a couple of shades that I wouldn’t use, but the rest look divine. But it’s so, so expensive, especially here in Aus. But it is tempting.
I love this palette but I’m not to ready to pay $170 for it (the price in CAD). If it is still around during the sale, maybe I will give it a try.
It’s pretty, but my gosh is it redundant. I’m so happy that neither this palette nor the new PMG tempted me.
Looks like mostly Orange-opolis to me.
The fact this has mostly cream-powder makes me actually consider it. I really love that formula from her. It’s what makes her a unique brand. I don’t need it and the color story is pretty redundant but if I can get enough gift cards, I might grab it.
I am glad to see that other people are seeing the same thing I did with this palette. I like the colour story but there are way too many dupes of each other. I thought it might be my monitor and then several people told me it looked the same to them. I can’t see spending that amount of money on a palette that has that many similar colours. They may swatch differently but they are going to read the same on the eye. There are several shades in here that I wouldn’t mind having but I can’t justify the price to get a bunch of similar shades, not to mention, I have most of them in other palettes. The one’s that are the same are not unique shades.

The green eye look you did is gorgeous, Christine. But could I do something similar with my collections of greens and golds from Sydney Grace, Lethal, Devinah, and more? Probably, yes. And even though the greens and teals are really the stars of the palette in my eyes, they are definitely the pops within a sea of orangey-golds and oranges. For those who enjoy these colors and aren’t bothered by the layout (and can afford this), it looks from your swatches like the quality is there.
this makes me want to get back into using eyeshadow regularly! Lethal and Symbol in particular are calling for me
I said, “Bammmm!” when I saw the swatches. Except Queen (and that’s fine because it could be used as a topper I figure, they are spot on true to color! Like the creamy formula!
As usual, I have to see if I can dupe more than half of it, because I’ve already decided after you swatches and other videos I’ve seen that it’s a “yes” otherwise.
Hey! As I was checking fo rate dupes (which I have to wait until they are all available), I already had a surprise. This palette has almost these exact colors as the Estée Edit Gritty Paltte (which I don’t have):

I just got this palette and it’s so much prettier in person. Stunning, actually. It’s the best quality palette she’s made. Colors are saturated, easy to use with finger or brush, blend well. I have decent skills and made two completely spectacular looks with minimal effort. It’s not like her other 28-pans (which were, frankly, a disappointment). You don’t need primer but I put some of ND’s own primer because it’s a long day. It’s so good that I’m taking a chance on a no-paraben palette lasting at least a few years and getting a backup. I’ll likely hit pan on a few shades in the next few years, despite all the other palettes in my disposal. It’ll be hard to not use it every day this fall. I wonder if it’s LE because it cost a bit more to make but she’s keeping the price point.
My rule of thumb for buying a palette (I’d love to hear how other people pick their palettes!!):
1) I love the color scheme (which I really really do with this one);
2) I think I’ll use at least half the shades
3) I love or think I might hit pan on 1/4 the shades (even if I don’t use the other 3/4)
4) there is one special shade I NEED in my life ?(I bought 4 palettes of a 9-pan of Too Faced back in the day when they didn’t have singles for one shade I loved)
5) it’s a brand I love and collect and will buy anything they’re selling… I admit I have a problem ?
This one fits all of my e/s palette criteria.
If you don’t have any ND, this is the one to get. You could wait until the VIB sale and get it for less. Or go with a UK retailer, where it’s cheaper. But if you want a mix of neutrals and amazing pops of color – this is it!
Are the colors as similar as they look here? For example, Fuse and Penny, Stain and Chrism?
The colors are beautiful, but i don’t think I’d use them all! Still want it though.

It’s like the Gold, Star and Sunset Eyeshadow Palettes had a baby. I’m actually excited for this one as it is big but not as BIG as the original 2 Eyeshadow Palette 28. You can hold this in your hand! I suspect the pan size is about the same as the Sunrise Eyeshadow Palette pans.
Also, the colour story is more of a mixed compared to their other palettes which doe have a stonge theme and a lot of similar shade. I’m also a fan of gold and warmer orange tones so this one tickles my Fancy. 😉

I just got this in the mail today and it is prettier in person and the quality is superb. Here’s the thing though: a few of these shades swatch exactly the same on my skin tone…. Enigma and Symbol are EXACTLY the same to me and I’m really struggling to find the difference between the two. I am a fan of her palettes and I love everything she puts out, but the “duplication” might be a turnoff for some people, especially at this price point.
Too many similar orange mattes, but they sure know how to make a beautiful gold.
I think this palette is absolutely stunning. I love the greens in it. I did watch a video by Mel Thompson on YouTube and she does a great bit at the end where she does comparison swatches, comparing this palette to other ND palettes. Turns out (because I have most ND palettes), I have about 20 dupes LOL. Yet, I still want this…and will probably get it. This may be my last palette purchase before a loooong no-buy!
To my eye there are 9 dupes in this palette.
1. Rust, Fuse, Penny
2. Stain, Chrism
3. Crest, Helena
4. Enigma, Symbol

I see a huge amount of very similar warm metallics and warm mattes. I don’t think this palette is worth such investment, as these colors are very pedestrian and are available in multitude of other palettes from less expensive brands. The only 3 semi-interesting green-blue colors are also not unique. This palette got way more hype than it deserves.
These are all the colours i tend to gravitate to in eyeshadows so I am tempted.. but it is a lot of money, and I really feel I don’t need all of the shadows in this, since I gravitate to these shades I probably have a lot of dupes (especially the oranges). I almost wish it was two smaller palettes (one more of the green tones, one more of the oranges) rather than an expensive bigger one. I feel I have enough orange shadows, but i love all the greens!
It will probably be a pass for, depending on what dupes I can find.
