Urban Decay Sidecar Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches

Urban Decay Sidecar Eyeshadow
Urban Decay Sidecar Eyeshadow

Urban Decay Sidecar Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “beige sparkle.” It’s a medium caramel brown with warm undertones and a champagne-bronze sheen. Milani Caramel Brown is darker, more bronze. MAC Love Connection is also browner. Too Faced Cinnamon Sugar is lighter, less caramel. Urban Decay Blaze is less brown, slightly more orange.

You can find Sidecar in the original Naked Palette. Though it has a sparkle finish, it doesn’t seem to have micro-gltiter, and the sparkle is fine and sparse–I didn’t have problems with it in the Naked Palette, and I didn’t have problems when I tried this shade (which is in the newer formulation). I didn’t see fall out during application or later on during wear. The color itself is fully pigmented, and it applies evenly and smoothly. It has a dense, buttery texture that is soft and easily blended on the skin. I wore it and had it last for full eight hours without fading or creasing, and there was some very light fading along the outer edge after nine hours.

I’ not sure how I’m going to feel about this new finish since sidecar in the Naked palette is one of my all time favorite eyeshaodws. Are they basically the same? :'(

ChynnaBlue Avatar

Hmmm, I love Sidecar from the Naked palette, but I always get fallout. I wonder if the new formula helps with that. I’ll have to check it out.

Mariella Avatar

Sidecar was my favourite colour in the original Naked palette except for the fallout, which I found really, really troublesome. I’m beyond delighted to read that it’s not a problem with this new formulation and I will most certainly be buying this if it comes to the “regular” Sephora outlets (as I imagine it will over time). Christine, do you know if the “new” formula in Maui Wowie is equally glitter fallout free?

Christine Avatar

Hey Mariella,

I didn’t have problems with Sidecar in the original Naked palette – both seemed very un-sparkly in a way compared to UD’s normal glittery shades. I’ve tried Maui Wowie (in one of the recent palettes) and it’s less glittery but still glittery.

Mariella Avatar

Sigh…I was hoping Maui Wowie would have undergone a significant change because it is such a beautiful colour and, at least in my colletion, it’s unique – the closest dupe I have without glitter is probably MAC Dalliance. I’ll have to give the new Sidecar a try instore. It’s funny – I know quite a few people who didn’t have trouble wit the original Sidecar and then others who, like me, ended up with glitter, even after application.

Mariella Avatar

it’s so weird that some of us have massive problems with the “original” Sidecar – I mean MASSIVE to the point of not using it – and yet you and some others don’t have problems at all (I noticed this when I watched some tutorials when the palette first came out – some lucky folks could use it with no problems at all; I a envious!)

Jen Avatar

Ditto. I have a friend who can just sweep it on with no fallout. I agree with Christine that it’s smaller than micro-glitter, but for some reason it falls out just the same way for some of us. Sigh.

Jen Avatar

I had the same trouble with Sidecar, but found Maui Wowie in the Fun Palette re-release to be much more workable. It’s still best to pat it on, rather than sweep, but I don’t even use an especially sticky primer with it.

Jen Avatar

Interesting – the version in my Naked palette sure had micro-glitter, and the fallout was so intense I just can’t wear it (unless I sandwich it between a sticky primer and a lock). As much as I loved the color, it just wasn’t worth that much trouble.

This one looks very different, but I’ve got a dupe in Too Faced’s Natural at Night palette (After Hours, I think), so I may pass on this one.

Jen Avatar

I wonder if there are ever minor variations from one palette to the next? Maybe my palette had been sitting around a while (I just bought it last year) and Sidecar had dried out a little?

I’m definitely going to check this one out in Sephora. I’ll be able to tell if it’s likely to work for me – I’d LOVE to have a Sidecar that I can sweep on without the high maintenance routine! 🙂

t_zwiggy Avatar

So this has the same micro glitter as the Naked version? I really like the shade, but I have only used it a couple of times, and always regretted it because of the massive fallout. I definitely won’t be getting this then.

Mandy Avatar

She did “Though it has a sparkle finish, it doesn’t seem to have micro-gltiter, and the sparkle is fine and sparse” — you should give it a try 🙂

t_zwiggy Avatar

Okay, I’m confused now. She also said “I didn’t have problems with it in the Naked Palette”, but I do. Even though it’s not as bad as most of UD’s glitter shades, it still has some chunks in it, right? Is different enough from the Naked version that it’s worth getting?

Jen Avatar

I have the same problem that others here have, I get major glitter fallout from this shade in naked1. It is such a shame because its so pretty. I’m confused about your response here. Is this the same formula as the naked1 sidecar? So, if I had problems with it in the naked palette, would I have have problems with this as well?

V Avatar

YYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSS!!! Thank you, Urban Decay (and of course Christine). My favorite, most used shade FINALLY in a single. And surprisingly so hard to find a dupe for! I am one happy lady tonight 🙂

resham Avatar

how do you manage to get such pristine white background for your photographs… My white backgrounds either turn blue or grey! Any suggestion would really help, though I understand if its some trade secret and you don’t want to share.

Thank you!

Miss J Avatar

I will have to check this out in person at some point; it’s one of my favorites out of the Naked Palette, but I got/get a pretty intense sparkle fallout from it. I could barely see the sparkle in the shadow, but when I applied it the little bits got everywhere. 🙁

Lisa Nguyen Avatar

is this color very similar to the one from the naked palette? i’ve purchased a couple of urban decay individual shadows in the new packaging and formulation but my buck definitely isn’t as warm as the one in the naked palette and midnight cowboy isn’t as gold as it is in another one of UD’s book of shadows so i’m a little hesitant to try more…

Michelle Avatar

Sidecar is probably my favorite color in Naked 1, but it looks nothing like this! I actually went and swatched mine because it struck me as so different, and mine is significantly more grey and purple toned, and has tons of micro-glitter.

Quinctia Avatar

This probably has the biggest dent in it in my Naked palette. I’m not a big neutral wearer, though, so it’ll probably last me a good while yet.

On the microglitter thing: it’s there in the palette version, I can actually see specs of it in the original swatches on here. However, the glitter isn’t really apparent in the color unless it’s blended out, the shadow itself kind of outshines the glitter.

I can’t say I’ve had fallout issues with Sidecar, the glitter in it is much finer than that in all the Midnight Cowboy shades, or Maui Wowie, etc.

Olivia Avatar

I LOVE SIDECAR!! This one looks extremely different from mine (Naked1), which IMO is a bad thing. It doesn’t really matter to me because if I ever hit pan on a shade in my Naked 1 I’ll totally just buy another one for 50 instead of one eyeshadow for 18. So if they never start making the Naked1 in their new formulation I’ll always have an original Sidecar : )

I do experience mild fall-out with my Sidecar, which I offset by patting it on and doing my face after my eyes. However, the color is so beautiful, and never fades or creases or looks greasy unlike the hated MIDNIGHT RODEO. I have 2 (maybe 3… can’t remember) MIDNIGHT RODEOs and I seriously hate that eyeshadow so much lol. Giant glitter all over your face and then it fades/creases/looks gross like 2-3 hours later.

Sidecar is like a 1,000,000x better midnight rodeo IMO haha. Similar color, but one wears awesomely and the other is gross.

Jen Avatar

Are we talking about the same Sidecar here? I have it in the Naked 1 palette and its prob one of the prettiest colors in the palette BUT i cannot wear this without having tons of glitter fallout. Its such a shame because i love the shade.

Martha Avatar

My sidecar, like everyone else, is completely different. I love the color, but have HATED the fallout with chunks of glitter. I can’t even see glitter in your swatches. If it’s been reformulated I am going to have to pick this up.

Nesita Avatar

It looks a bit warmer and a lot less sparkly than the one on my Naked.
After seeing your review I decided to use mine again (I never use it because of the fall out) and this time it was minimal, so yay for that haha

Deborah Avatar

I must have gotten a dud Naked Palette because I can’t use this without sparkles going everywhere. Doesn’t matter if I pat it or have a sticky base underneath…

rachel Avatar

just get the brush in the shadow and then tap the handle against your hand a few times! it shakes free any excess/loose glitter and then when you pat it on it will work easily. also, try doing crease/brown bone color before applying sidecar to the lid so that there’s no blending of the shadow- blending will definitely loosen the glitter and cause it to migrate up the crease or beneath the eye.

Yui Avatar

Funny, my pan of Sidecar in the Naked palette DOES have micro-glitter in it, but the fallout is not as severe as others have stated. It’s not a huge problem for me. However, I still tap the excess off my brush so maybe that’s why I haven’t seen it do that? Anyways, YDK and Sidecar are extremely similar to me but YDK is on the plummier/less brown side. Check it out if you can’t stand the microglitter in Sidecar.

Kristine C. Avatar

Hi christine!!

I was wondering if there’s anywhere I can get Sidecar by itself? I don’t want to pick up the Naked Palette, but I love this color <3
