Anastasia Daytime & Sunset Collections for Spring 2019
Release Date + Collection Info
From Norvina: “I wanted to explore a themed collection to gauge everyone’s interest & hopefully integrate this type of launch into our future plans. [I] wanted a create something cute, and easy to understand for younger consumers who might be intimidated by a 14 shadow palette. You will see the campaign images shortly, it has a youthful vibe, but that doesn’t mean the makeup is only for teens by any means. Its a great on the go kit, and I thought the themed kits made a great gift even for yourself.

Anyone know why one is $2 more than the other?
I think the info ABH gave could be wrong. The photo looks like it has 2 lipglosses for the cool-toned one and 2 liquid lipsticks for the warm-toned one. That’s the only thing I can think of. Any other reason won’t make sense to me unless one of the shadows has more product which doesn’t seem likely.
This is an interesting idea. Norvina is always thinking ahead and that’s cool. But getting a teenager to pay 32 dollars for four shadows when there are so many great indies on the market who sell singles for roughly 5 dollars a piece seems like a tough sell.
I don’t love the pairing of the emphasis on youth / teenager-friendliness with publicity shots that include Lolita glasses. It’s a small thing, perhaps, but it just feels icky to me. There’s no way that literally no one at Anastasia knew about the history and connotations of heart-shaped glasses. Why choose to use them for this campaign?
Well … you might be right about someone there had to know, but TBH, I have no idea what the history and connotations of heart-shaped glasses are. And there are only so many people allowed to make decisions in these marketing programs (just being in a company doesn’t mean you’re in a position to speak up and question choices).
I think you make a good, but disturbing point. And the names of the lipsticks and glosses are named after alcoholic drinks.
Something about this messaging rubs the wrong way. Why is it only younger consumers would be intimidated by a 14 pan palette? I didn’t get into make until I was about 27 or so, and someone like my mom has only ever used quads. The quads are pretty, if basic. It might make for a nice travel palette if you’re a one look kinda person.
Agreed. Younger people probably have more time, latitude (they’re only learning) and online connections to be able to handle the bigger stuff.
Please let’s not manufacture outrage over the idea that adults might be less intimidated in general; whether a reasonable idea or not, I don’t think there was any effort to exclude adults (she even mentioned that the makeup isn’t just for youngsters). It sounds like your mother’s decision to use only quads is a personal choice (a sensible one), not fear; I don’t think Norvina was implying that your mother doesn’t exist or that her choices make her freakish. Can we all please stop reading into things for the sake of finding ways in which they don’t apply to us and then being offended by that?
I wonder why the one collection box is $2 more than the other since they seem to contain products of the exact same cost. I was mildly interested in the Sunset palette til I saw it contains Birkin, a shade I can’t wear. This whole release is an easy pass for me and not just because I’ve reached that “saturation level”. As much as I can’t wait for summer (-26C this past week), I can skip this release. The “daytime” palette really does look nice and “summer” though.
I actually really like this idea. I like the idea of a quad as opposed to a 14-shade palette. Sometimes I find them overwhelming, especially if I am in a rush to just get ready for work. I wish they sold the quads individually though, I don’t like liquid lipsticks and I definitely don’t need the sunglasses, lol.
Yawn. I might’ve been interested in the cool shades but the actual colors look blah. More interesting is this thought — wonder if companies are going to start moving away from the big-bigger-biggest palettes and go back to quads and trios?
I like the idea of quads, assuming the colors work well together and there’s at least one unique shade instead of all boring taupe/neutral colors.
Interesting idea. Sunset would be more my jam, but I have all those colors.
And I *definitely* don’t need heart-shaped sunglasses. 🙂
Smaller palettes are always welcome, but I’ve always thought young people would buy brands like colour pop, for choice and price.
These look stunning and I love the eyeshadow quads.
The daytime palette looks cute for basic everyday looks. Idk for 32$ though. Smh.
Those glasses are so cute, I would probably buy them separately if you could. I’m kind of interested in the “cooler toned” one, but I’ll wait to see swatches.
I don’t really appreciate ABH using alcohol references when marketing to teenagers, but what can you do. Pretty inappropriate considering the demographic they’re going after with this release.
This collection doesn’t speak to me at all. At $32 for four shadows that better be the most amazing formula on the market (while I like ABH I don’t think they are the absolute best of the best). There are a lot of smaller palette options that are less intimidating that offer a few more colors. For example, the Huda 9 pan in Topaz or Warm Brown seem similar to Daytime but are less expensive and have five more shades while still being a smaller less intimidating and/or travel friendly palette. Heck, even Denona’s 5 pans are only $25.
The box seems like a way better deal. I don’t need the sunglasses, but you save $20 so basically it is like getting the liquid lip for free?
