- Haul/Rediscoveries: Tom Ford Amber Absolute & Black Violet Private Blend Reserves, Olaplex Shampoo/Conditioner, Dr. Jart+ face masks, Laneige Lavender Water Sleeping Mask
- Weekend plans: I’m hoping to work through some of the drafts I have and have more reviews written for next week instead of working late every night to get the next day’s reviews ready.
- Do you have any pets?: Yes, Mellan–an eleven year-old laborador retriever! Just Mellan, though 🙂

Haul/Rediscoveries: Week 3 of my no-buy (except necessary replacements) is going really well. I didn’t buy any beauty products at all. And wasn’t even truly tempted. No rediscoveries this week, either.
Weekend Plans: Laundry, visit family, finish putting away Christmas decorations (we took them all down, but still need to box them up). Also, can’t wait to see the next episode of Outlander!
Do You Have Any Pets? Yes, a mixed breed dog that we adopted from a rescue several years ago. He’s about 12 years old, 20 pounds, and still full of energy. Unlike Mellan, he’s not allowed to have stuffed toys because with minutes he will have torn it apart and fluff will be all over the room. His favorites are squeaky toys, rope toys, and dog puzzles.
My husband is a big Outlander fan!
Congratulations on your successful no buy. It’s good to use up what you have.
Haul: picked up a Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipstick in the color Pioneer. Kind of on a whim, but wow this product is amazing. Blew me away. It dries to a nice, flexible satin finish (not really matte) but is totally transfer proof. It’s really comfortable all day. Probably around the 8 hour mark it started to feel a bit tight but the color still looked almost perfect. It’s just as good as my beloved Estée Lauder one (maybe better because it’s transfer proof!) and IME more comfortable than the Nars or KVD ones, which start to bother me at around 4 hours. I totally recommend trying a few Christine, if you have the time of course.
I have two 1.5 year old cats that I adopted from the same litter that was found abandoned at two weeks old. They are the absolute best little girls-I’m so lucky someone rescued them! It’s supposed to be a snowy weekend and they are great snugglers ?
I got the Matte Ink in Ruler this week and was really impressed with it, too! Looked good all day and through a lasagna dinner even though I’ve got major winter skin issues going on. I think I’ll pick up either Pioneer or Founder next.
Haul: Just replenishing of my DevaCurl products (Decadence shampoo and conditioner, Ultra Defining Gel, B’Leave In, Volumizing Foam, and Set It Free.
I love the Pat McGRATH Lip glosses I bought last week! I wasn’t expecting to be impressed but I am. I got both mini sets (warm and cool). So far my favorites are Divine Rose and Bronze Temptation
Weekend plans: Dealing with Winter Storm Harper. It feels like we spent the entire weekend last weekend shoveling snow (we got 10 inches, cleared the driveway four times, dug my husband’s stranded truck out of the road, and helped neighbors.) This time we are expecting 3-6 more inches, but with bitter cold and wind (we’ll be hovering around 0 degrees on Sunday and Monday—the wind is going to make it so much worse). Someday I will be retired and hopefully there won’t be so much urgency to have the snow cleared so I can get to work. It would be nice to spend the weekend watching the snow fall with a fire in the fireplace and my cat on my lap.
Rediscoveries: For the past two weeks I’ve been wearing MAC’s Desert Rose blush for all my cool looks and Chanel’s Coco Code Harmony Blush (LE, 2016) for my warm looks.
Pets: Three cats. Lula showed up in my husband’s car engine 10 years ago, a half starved baby covered in engine grease. Lily and Zoe were brought home with a returning adult child who has since moved out again, but the cats remain. They are about 7 years old. Zoe is a cranky orange tabby affectionately known as “bitch cat” for her bad temper (but she is MINE and I ADORE her) and Lily is party Siamese, very sweet, and favors my son Jesse (who left for bootcamp 6 weeks ago) and my husband.
I wouldn’t mind some of that snow Tammy – it’s just so hot here!
Haul/Rediscoveries: Went into Target for cleaning supplies, and (you know how this ends) came out with L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara, Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink in Brick (which I am absolutely loving), and a $3 clearance eyeliner (Cover Girl Intensify Me in emerald), which isn’t half-bad either.
Weekend plans: Christmas was down south this year, do now that it’s over I can finally put all the summer clothes in storage. We also might go see Into the Spiderverse.
Do you have any pets?: Nope, four kids are keeping me busy enough right now!
That’s what usually happens when I go into Target too – apart from seeing adorable clothes for my grandchildren!
4 children is definitely enough without pets, you deserve a big medal.
I don’t need a medal, but I wouldn’t turn down free coffee delivery!
Free coffee delivery would be good!
Haul: A Flower Beauty sponge and Blush Bomb in Pinched.
Rediscoveries: My Viseart Warm Mattes palette. I forgot how much I like that palette! Especially the orange; it’s so buildable and blends so nicely.
Weekend plans: We have ANOTHER winter storm heading our way, so it might be another snow weekend stuck inside.
Do you have any pets?: No pets, sadly. My husband is allergic to all the animals.
Aww! I always enjoy a Mellan clip of him playing! ❤️?❤️
Haul: Just one item. But, one I’ve been wanting to get for YEARS. MAC Bloggers Obsession Jealousy Wakes! And it truly delivers the perfect shade of emerald green with a little something extra. My fear that it would be a counterfeit was completely unwarranted.
Weekend plans: Trying to keep my nerves under control and retain some shred of sanity at this time. I am *still* waiting to receive the order for my cardiac cath. I’ve left messages with them asking whether there’s a date yet. No one returned either call. I’m getting very antsy here, because I just want this over with! So, my weekend is basically trying to stay as busy around here as possible in order to get my mind off of it. Thankfully, I have my meeting on Sunday (at 1 pm, woo-hoo!). I would go hit the mall, but I don’t need any temptation to buy anything!
Do you have pets? Yep! Two cats that are half-siblings. Scunci, who is almost 14 years old, a tuxedo with a racoon shaped bandit mask, mostly Maine Coon Cat, and looks it, too. Clarissa is an almost totally white cat, almost 12 years old, and a very affectionate, but fairly psychotic phloofball! I am very thankful for having both of them in my life as I’m mostly stuck in the house due to health issues and disability. Love them dearly! ???
Nancy, are you waiting to hear from the doctor or someone at the hospital? If it’s the hospital you might try contacting their Quality department and explain that you’ve been waiting without any communication. Most hospitals take patient satisfaction seriously as more and more insurance companies are tying reimbursement to satisfaction scores. Just an idea. If its the doctor office you could try bribery…take some donuts to the office. Seriously, I’m not trying to be disrespectful. I hope your test goes well.
Updated: Just received the call from my cardiologist’s office, and my cardiac catherization is scheduled for Jan. 30th 11:30 a.m. Whew….I’m feeling like I’m in my feelings right now. But, I’m leaving this in God’s hands.
Best wishes, Nancy!!!
Thank you very much, Christine. I’m nervous, but I have a feeling that I will be feeling better on the 31st once this procedure is over with!
We’ll be praying and sending good vibes you way on the 30.
Hope all goes well on the 30th, Nancy!
Thank goodness they finally got back to you! I was about ready to ask for their number and chew them out for you. LOL Fingers crossed everything goes well for you.
I think Shari below has a good point. Ring up the hospital admin and see what they can do. It’s not fair to keep you waiting like this.
Keep strong.
Genevieve and ShariP, good news in my update above! They *finally* called with my appointment date! Thank you for waiting with me in a virtual sense! ?
Fantastic news Nancy – I’ve said a few prayers for you.
Haul: I did pick up a NYX Milk pencil as my current one is down to the nub and for my daughter I purchased some shampoo and conditioner. Both were purchased at Ulta so I got my free birthday gift while I was there. It is two Ulta e/s, a $10 off coupon and something else that I can’t remember, LOL. Doing pretty well on my no/low buy. Pretty proud of myself.
Weekend plans: As I sit here now, we are getting our first real snow fall of the year. It has been particularly dry and warm for Montana at this time of year. Probably blow out the driveway and take some snow off the road and that is about all. Working on a couple of mixed media canvas and decoupaging rice paper pictures from our vacation to Europe, onto a glass door.
Pets: Yes, my daughter has a cat, Sophie. She has spent more time with me than she has her, however. All through college and her first year working Sophie has lived with me. She is a 5 year old Torbie and she is very mercurial. One minute she loves you and the next she is clawing and biting at you. When my daughter is home then she doesn’t have room for anyone else in her life but once my daughter leaves, she reverts to sleeping with me and lying on my lap. She travels pretty much every where with us but we couldn’t take her to Europe, of course. It was the hardest part of the trip. She hid whenever my mom or brother came to feed her and since we were gone for a little over 5 weeks, she was pretty traumatized by the experience. Che couldn’t meow or really purr when we got home and she was croaky for about a week. If we go to Europe at Christmas time I am thinking about boarding her in Missoula. I wanted her to be in her own environment and thought that would be the best thing for her but at a shelter she would get some attention and wouldn’t be able to run and hide. I hate the thought of leaving her again so will have to really decide soon and if boarding her is the way we have to go, I want to take her and board her overnight a few times to see how she does.
As my kitties get older, it is harder and harder to leave them. I hope you find a spot where she will be comfortable
It is certainly a factor when you travel if you have pets. My twin sister flew home from a holiday when she found out her beloved cat, Katie, was fretting for her. I could totally understand that.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I hauled yet more LIT glitter (I kind of worry they are going out of business? Their inventory keeps shrinking… Hopefully they’re just phasing out their plastic glitters and planning on launching a biodegradable option.) which is ridiculous but I love them, the Zoya four nail polish promo, and last week I did my only lip haul I’m allowing myself for 2019: Bite Grape Glaze, Nars Damned Velvet Matte Pencil, and Pat McGrath Major and 1980 lip liners. I love them all.
Weekend plans: Homework for soil science class, work, play Just Dance, and maybe read a little A Scanner Darkly.
Do you have any pets?: Nope.
Rediscoveries: I’m destashing and swatched all of my eye shadows yesterday. Forgot how much I love the UD Fun palette!
Weekend Plans: We bought a hobby car (2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder with body damage) so we’ll probably spend most of the weekend doing basic maintenance & cleaning it to see what needs to be replaced & fixed.
Pets: A cat (Rasputin, male, 13), a corn snake (Saul, male, 18), and a cockatiel (Oliver, male, 12). Rasputin had a sister (Chani) but she passed away from heart failure in November.
1. colourpop chasing rainbows
2. I’ll get snowed in. So just a quick run to the gym to practice flamenco on Saturday morning, then staying inside playing with makeup, watching some movies, applying for a summer internship.
3. I’m a plant lady 🙂
It’s lovely to see Mellon still playing with his toys.
Haul: My two Bite Beauty lipsticks arrived: Maple and Nori. No wonder everyone raves about the formula -very creamy.
No real rediscoveries this week either.
Weekend Plans: It has been incredibly hot all week here and on Friday we had bursts of tropical thunderstorms and rain, high humidy all way down from northern Australia. A slight respite during the weekend and then back to the heat next week.
Friday – we had Lachlan over and I was planning on taking him to the park, but with the sudden thunderstorms I couldn’t. He was happy to play with all the train sets here and be a firefighter.
Saturday – just housework and food shopping.
Sunday – hopefully a drive and a lunch out.
Pets: No, we don’t have any pets.
Haul: Went to Lush and Sephora back on Saturday. Got Rose Jam shampoo bar and Charity Pot and 9 to 5 cleansing lotion for me and body wash for my partner at Lush. At Sephora I picked up a Ouai spray to protect my hair from the curling wand, some Lashcraft mascara, and the Bite Agave Lip Mask in Lavender. I feel like there was one other thing I’m forgetting. I also ordered myself The Tribe palette from Juvia’s Place after the discussion about green palettes, and it already arrived! I think I’ll play with it tonight.
Weekend plans: About to go grab a bite to eat and hit Target. Tomorrow we’re going to the Seattle Art Museum to see “Peacock in the Desert” which is an exhibit of the Royal Arts of Jodhpur, India. We’ll grab dinner downtown too. Sunday I have my online dance conditioning class and then we’ll do chores. Thinking it’s time to completely clean out and reorganize the pantry.
Pets: Three! We have Lira, a 22 year old tiny tuxedo cat who is blind, arthritic, currently fighting an infected mystery wound in her leg, and will probably still live to be 30 just so she can outlive the others for pure spite. She’s an adorable little murder beast. Topher, I keep saying he’s 16 but he’s actually 18. He’s a Maine Coon mix, an absolute chill snuggle boi. Both cats have chronic thyroid and kidney problems. Topher has to get subcutaneous fluids and he just settles down in my lap and takes it, as long as we warm them up first. And then there’s Daisy, our corgi girl who just turned 12 last month. She did not get the memo that she is a senior citizen. She is still very spry and energetic, a healthy weight for a corgi despite her eternal love of snacks. She is our “low maintenance” pet, as she’s the only one without any chronic health problems and rarely has to go to the vet except for her regular check-ups. But she’s “high maintenance” in that she ALWAYS has to be the center of attention 😉 We’re very fortunate that all three of them actually do very good at the vet and always charm the techs and docs.
Mellan is such a sweet boy, I love to see his pics and videos!
Asked my mum if we could get a Pembroke. She replied ‘I told you this before. (about a border collie/rough collie mix…I knew the parents) You may not have a dog that is smarter than you.’ Wise woman. At least QEII has a couple of Dorgis. It really saddened me that she lost her last Corgi.
Yeah, that makes me sad too 🙁
Daisy is a Pembroke, but let me tell you, she is not a paragon of her breed. She’s sweet, funny, and eager to please, but not the brightest dog.
I loved reading about your pets. And they are living so long too! All of my pets died young until our most recent batch of cats (I say recent–these cats have spanned back 7-20 years). Francis beat everyone, passed away just shy of her 17th birthday. I thought she was going to make it to 20, because at 16 she was active and happy. She got sick so quickly (they think it was nasal cancer) and we finally let her go three years ago, after months of giving her subcutaneous fluids and feeding her from a syringe (she could no longer eat or drink on her own). Next up is Lula cat, 10 years old, weighing in at over 17 pounds, followed by sister cats Zoe and Lily, who are 7 or 8 years old now. I hope some of my kitties are able to live as long as yours.
Awww, I am glad you enjoyed reading about them! I am so sorry that you lost your Francis — it is so stressful to have to syringe-feed them. We had to do that with our other corgi Maggie in the last days of her cancer 🙁
I am sending long life wishes to all of your kitties! May they be healthy and live well into their 20s.
????: MAC Lunar Red Collection; UD Afterglow Blush in Bang; ABH 3-Pc. Holiday Mini Metallic Liquid Lipstick Set and 4-Pc. Holiday Mini Lip Gloss Set (both on sale); Viseart Bijoux Royal Palette ( Swatched only; from Glambot).
??????? ?????: My husband is leaving for a business trip Sunday morning, so I’ll spend some time with him Saturday. Sunday I might take my son to the mall or the movies.
?? ??? ???? ??? ????? Two cats that I adopted from a friend who could no longer keep them. There about 7-8 years old. Spike is Ragdoll, and Jack is an orange tabby. My son also has an almost 3-year-old guinea pig, Renegade. He was a customer return we adopted, and he’s really cute and smart.
Haul: Nothing. I’ve been watching You Tube videos by JAMBeauty89 and she’s inspiring me to be more mindful of what I already own and to declutter what I haven’t used or don’t really like. I took 4 large Sephora bags full of skin care samples and color cosmetics to work to share with some lovely ladies that I work with. They all work so hard and are so good at what they do and working in a cancer center is never easy. I was so surprised at how much they enjoyed digging thru everything and they each left with a small pile of goodies. It made me feel good and I’m thankful that I shared with them.
Weekend: Just working my 2nd job.
Pets: At the moment no. We lost our precious Maine Coon cat, Cali, the week before Christmas and we’re still grieving. We got her when she was 6 weeks old and she was 23 years old when she died. We’ve talked about getting another MC and we will when we’re ready.
That was really sweet of you to share your samples! I personally LOVE samples and really enjoy trying new things so I completely understand why it was really special for your coworkers and friends! Kudos for decluttering AND doing something really nice :).
Awww, sorry for your loss. Rest in peace, Cali.
I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve had a couple Maine Coon mixes. Great cats.
Haul: Nothing this week, but my Beautylish Lucky Bag shipped so hopefully that arrives soon 🙂
Weekend plans: Brunch, buy a new power cable for my laptop and then I’m having a go at making pork dumplings by hand. My husband is going fishing on Sunday so I’ll have the house to myself all day and might do some baking. Or it might be too hot to deal with the oven and I’ll just lie around and read a book instead.
Pets: Yes, two tabby cats. Emmett is nearly 3 and is a whiny neurotic little furbag of adorableness – he likes tummy rubs and lets me carry him around upside down. He is still taking a while to warm up to our new cat, Ruby Tuesday who is 6 months old but we’ve only had her for 5 weeks. She’s super smart but she’s used to being around lots of other cats and always wants Em’s attention and gets right in his face and he hates it and runs away. She doesn’t really meow but makes a weird little chirping sound when she’s happy and she likes to sleep on the bed with us. They are both excellent hunters and we deal with a steady stream of birds (not native ones, thank goodness!), insects and lizards, plus the occasional mouse. I had to clean up a weta this morning, but fortunately it was still whole and very dead, because those things bite.
I’d never heard of a weta, and had to google it. We have nothing like it in Eastern NA. My Patticake, a lovely red piebald and dapple dachshund who spent 7 years in a crate giving birth to puppies, then was rescued for five months, then disc neurosurgery, clearly has recovered. She had a dead sparrow this AM. Not sure it was not her brother Jussi Sperling (Jack Sparrow), who is a black and tan. They will both be 9 this year. They were all the comfort I needed with my procedure prep. gag me thrice, omg. My stomach wretches at the look of Gatorade. After food, I think Dachsie’s most favorite thing is killing. I have bought nothing since NYD’s Zoeva order, but I need Cosrx acne dots badly! Zits. 70. Great. Due to 2 days of prep, the procedure (not the expected results at all, and I have not spoken to the doc (7 hours work the day after and ten today, no big surprise.) have not thought much about m/u. Sheet masks and snail occlusion…and oily as I am, still had flaky left cheek. If you have to do endo, def recommend heavy doses of moisture and sheet masks. Plans: might have two days off, due to impending snowstorm, then the holiday/night job. My street is in the town’s top 3 worst for winter, per the DPW. A few years ago, when we had the National Guard from NJ and PA, I could not drive out of my street for 10 days. So, snug with my buds, read, shovel, cook, video/tv. Sounds like heaven to me. Maybe play with m/u. I do admit to playing with all my Pat l/s on day 2 of the bowel prep, and doing some single eye combos, while sheet masking.
Yeah, wetas are like the Mad Max Thunderdome of crickets, they’re native to New Zealand and aren’t found anywhere else in the world. Hope you feel better soon and that the snow is not too bad! 🙂
CeeBee,
My Lucky Bag shipped this week too! I’m so excited to see what I get. I have purposely avoided information on what others are getting in their Lucky Bags this year so I can be surprised.
It’s the first time I’ve ordered one and I have absolutely no idea what to expect!
CeeBee,
I also meant to tell you I loved hearing about your kitties. Our kitties are hunters too, especially Zoe, who has an odd habit of removing the left foot of every bunny she kills. I have come out to the screened in porch on numerous occasions to find a pile of dead rabbits and next to it a pile of left feet. Sometimes the cats bring in live animals as well. We have had to capture and release birds and chipmunks several times.
Haul/Rediscoveries: Broke down and bought Berries & Cream from Dominique Cosmetics – a good friend has it and I’ve been dying to do so. I also got Diamond Dust – I’m seeing Cher in a few weeks and I wanted something glitzy.
Weekend plans: I’m going to my aunt’s 60th birthday party tomorrow.
Do you have any pets?: Yes, two cats – a black Maine Coon named Wild Thing and his mom, a Russian Blue named Smokey. Both rescued.
Ooooo, Russian Blues are so pretty!
Happy birthday to your aunt.
Haul: Nothing new this week, purchased or rediscovered
Weekend plans: we are visiting friends in Florida so taking cues from them. Importantly we are going to miss a snowstorm expected in NY
Pets: They prefer the term Feline-American. Walter is a seal point Siamese going on 20 and Tara is a snowshoe around 19. 1/2. Both were rescues. We are their humble and obedient servants.
“We are their humble and obedient servants,” lol.
Haul/Rediscoveries: I still have my ColourPop Disney Designer order waiting in cart. My Sephora order came in yesterday and my Pur Cosmetics Grinch palette order came in today-I gave the Fenty Pro Filt’r 110 foundation from the Sephora order a test run today and it absolutely disappears into my skin and stays all day! I’m also thinking of ordering some makeup books from Barnes & Noble (for new techniques, of course), because they’re having a 10%-off-entire-order deal all weekend. Well, it looks like it’ll be easier and cheaper to buy 1 on the B&N deal, 1 not available on B&N through Amazon, and the rest through B&N’s Marketplace, but you get the idea.
Weekend plans: I have to work all day tomorrow, through the winter storm, unless the big bosses either close early during the day or decide within the next 7 hours to close before the storm fully kicks in. I work in a library-things have to get really bad before weather conditions outweigh public need.
Do you have any pets?: We have a roughly 5-year-old German Shepherd, Serge, but he’s mainly my dad’s dog. He’s very sweet, but I tend to be a bit leery of him because when he stands on his hind legs, he’s taller than me (I’m 5’5″).
Rediscoveries: Urban Decay Toasted eyeshadow…an old favorite that makes for an easy one and done look
Weekend plans: Haven’t really planned anything yet, will probably do some shopping and clean up at home
Do you have any pets?: No, they’re not really my thing, and I don’t like the added responsibility lol
Haul: Jeffree Star Northern Lights palette
Weekend plans: My dog Loki just got spayed, so I’ll be keeping an eye on her.
Do you have any pets?: Yes – Loki, who’s 10 months, and a 10 year old calico cat called Pandora
Haul/Rediscovery: For two weeks No purchases this week. Week before –
Chanel Spring Collection (20% off SDM) – Les 9 Ombres Quintessence eyeshadow palette, Baume Essentiel Multi-purpose Glow Stick, Rouge Allure Velvet Matte lip colour in Imperial, and Le Rouge Crayon in Ultra Rose and Rose Violine;
Bobbi Brown (25% off) – Crushed Liquid Lip in Cool Beets, Luxe Lip Colour in Red Berry and Rich Berry, with gwp full size Pot Rouge in Uber Beige.
HBC ($10 off) Dior Rouge Blush in Hologlam (quickly becoming a favourite blush).
Weekend Plans: Cooking dishes to combat the snow (6″) and cold. Going out for dinner Saturday or Sunday weather permitting.
Do you have a pet? Yes, an energetic, loving, and naughty 6 year old black and white cat named Felix.
