Top 10 of 2012: Best Drugstore Beauty Products
This has been a year filled with some fantastic formulas and shades–and at less than $10! Here are some of my favorites:
- Maybelline Color Tattoos — excellent cream eyeshadows
- Revlon Lollipop — glossy fuchsia lipstick
- Revlon Papaya — coral gloss
- Milani Green Safari — creamy shadow pencil
- Revlon Gold Coin — metallic gold polish
- L’Oreal Smoldering Plum — rich plum eyeshadow
- Milani Olympian Blue — bold blue eyeshadow
- NYX Pink Lyric — bright pink lipstick
- Wet ‘n’ Wild Grew Up in Cobalt-imore — metallic blue polish
- L’Oreal The Queen’s Ambition — silver over black polish
Totally agree about the Lo’Oreal eyeshadow and Revlon’s lip butters – both are simply gorgeous1
Hi Christine,
I totally agree with you on gold coin. It is a really lovely colour and texture! Thanks for all your work. I just recently started reading temptalia.com and I am really enjoying it!
Thank you, Rosy! 😀
My favorites from the drugstore this year are Loreal’s Infallible shadows, Revlon’s Lipbutters (though I really love Cherry Tart), and I just got Milani’s Caramel Brown eyeshadow and it’s fab quality.
For many years I have stayed away from drug store brands, but recently (after reading reviews of products), I purchased some of the L’Oreal Infalliable eye shadows. I have found that they are very similar to the new lancome 24 hour shadows. I am loving them!!
i tried a le rouge loreal lipstick. beautiful consistency.
maybelline lipstick in red revival
cover girl lipstick in flame, perfect, perfect watermelon pink, reddish pink, perfect perfect perfect! now if it ddin’t ahve an obnoxious taste and smell.
My faves this year were the L’Oreal Caresse lipsticks – specifically Rose Taffeta and Silky Java.
Rouge Caresse were one of my faves of the year, too. I have both shades you mentioned, plus Cherry Tulle – they’re great lipsticks.
I ended up collecting them all *sheepish look* I haven’t worn them in a while, though. I should change that!
Although alot of people hate this product, and others have criticized it for not being “authentic”, I *really* love Garnier BB Cream. While I do want to eventually try a “real” one at some point, I’m perfectly happy with this.
The L’Oreal Infallibles are a great, too, and I love each and every one equally.
The L’Oreal BB Cream (I forget the actual name since there are two, der, its not the expensive one) is my favorite drugstore product this year, I love how matte it makes my face look.
Love all these picks! Especially The Queen’s Ambition.
Just one thing, from Gold Coin on, the descriptions just say the color. I had to keep scrolling up to see what kind of product it was.
L’Oreal BB Cream. One of the best on the market. Even better than the expensive BB creams. I use it alone and under my Bare Escentuals pressed powder.
That Revlon Papaya gloss is one of my HG beauty products, and I also love love love L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara in blackest black. I always get compliments on my lashes when I wear it.
Now I haven’t tried much drugstore stuff, but I do love the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks. I prefer that formula over Lip Butters, but that’s just me. If anyone is familiar with MAC’s amplified creme lipsticks, the texture of Revlon’s Super Lustrous are sooo similar. I like how they are both scentless AND tasteless, and this is coming from somebody with a sensitive nose and strong taste buds. If you want MAC quality but for a lower price, definitely go with these.
I’m not a fan of the way MAC lipsticks tend to “sit” on my lips (although I haven’t tried every formula), but I *love* Revlon lipstick. In fact, I just bought Black Cherry today, as it’s said to be a dupe for MAC Diva, which I love the color. Revlon also has an amazing range of pigment-saturated shades.
L’Oreal Rouge Caresse and Revlon lip butters were my favorites overall. I picked up a Revlon ColorBurst gloss in Sunbaked after seeing your reviews, Christine – I’m not usually into glosses but this one is really nice!
Awesome, these all look great! I have a few of these products myself and can confirm their star quality 🙂 I love that you’re doing Drugstore products, please please keep it up! Allllll the drugstore makeup! 😉 (And NYX too!!)
LOVE this list! Really great to see low cost products that deliver every bit of value for the money.
I didn’t have money to do a big shopping spree but one snowy afternoon I went out and
gotRevlon Lollipop after reading about it here.. I love it. It’s bold on me because I’m fair… Livens things up.. A pop of color with my black coat.
Wow–this list just totally reminded me that I have some Milani pencil shadows and powder shadows that I bought after your original reviews and then promptly forgot about 😛 Better get looking for those…
Love your lists of 2012 best (and worst) products. This one is great!
My fav drugstore purchase last year was Milani’s Eye Tech Extreme liquid eye liner. I can’t say how much I love this product and if you can find it at Target, it’s only $3.99 compared to $7 & $8 at Walgreens,CVS and WalMart.
I think the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains should have a place here as well!! They are awesome!!
Drugstore products are tough for me because I need FF products. That being said, I still have not found a mascara that I like better than Almay One Coat Thickening Mascara. I just wish it came in more colors. I have pale skin and red hair, and I need a true lighter brown mascara. Black and black/brown are too harsh for me. Almay stopped making this product in plain brown. L’Oreal infallible lipsticks are FF and have two good brown shades, infinite spice and rich topaz. They are very heavy but can be lightened with layering. CVS generic of Olay sensitive daily facial wipes are a cheap way of removing make up swatches on hands or arms,to save more expensive makeup removers for face. I find them too harsh for use regularly on face. I’ve never found a drugstore foundation to like, and I’ve tried. Also, the Maybelline gel eyeliner is a dupe for Bobbi Brown’s, with a better brown color. Covergirl’s gel eye pencil is great, as is Ulta’s. No need to fuss with liquid anymore! Prestige pencils are great too, if you can find them. Maybelline has two lip pencils, toast and nude that ate great neutral colors, the texture is unfortunately dry a d hard. The Almay mascara is the only one I buy repeatedly.
