This packaging is gorgeous.
I’m personally glad this has three shades I already own (Russian Red, Ruby Woo, and Lady Danger) so I’m not tempted to spend more money. The packaging struck me as odd because it has drawings of lipstick on the lipstick.
I agree: I thought that design was way too literal.
Yeah I just noticed that, too! I think it would have been prettier to just leave those off and just have the blossoms repeated. I am still a little tempted, but we’ll see.
Okay, so I’m not the only one who finds that weird lipstick on the case unappealing! What would it have taken them to do something with more interest, like a swan, a cherry tree, or better yet, a dragon?
Exactly my thoughts. A dragon would have looked gorgeous!
I found the lipstick in lipstick quirky, but I seem to be alone, haha! A pig could have been cute, since it’s the year of the pig, but there are lots of other products probably with pigs on them! For that reason, a dragon would not have made sense, because it’s not the year of the dragon.
Just as an FYI – cherry blossoms are a very popular spring symbol and metaphoric referent in Japanese culture, but Japan does not celebrate the lunar new year anymore. Cherry blossoms have a different meaning in Chinese culture, and might not make someone think of the lunar new year. To hit the mark with Chinese New Year, red is a big symbol just in itself (it’s associated with luck and vitality), and this one also says “good fortune” on it.
Thanks, Kira, for the explanation. It does help to understand all of the symbolism.
It’s meta — I kind of like it.
I’m not big into red lipsticks, the only shade that interests me is the mauve one. Hopefully I already own a dupe. Melba I have, so that combo is a pass. I do like the packaging but this collection will not make me break my low/no-buy. Easy to talk me out of.
I’m all about this. I am a total sucker for Chinese-themed MAC releases and I hope I can get something before it sells out. I am most interested in the blush duo – love both those colors and would find a duo handy.
The packaging and shade choice for the cheek compact looks lovely and cheery! As for the lipstick case design: how cheesy to have a tube of lipstick in its imprinted design. I mean, really, this could have instead been an exquisite and more classy detail.
I was lucky enough to snag some of their Peach Lunar NY collection. The red packaging here is gorgeous and red is THE shade for Lunar NY. Hoping the 2 LE lippie shades will suit me
How apropos after our question regarding favorite red lips yesterday in which I forgot to mention Cruella by Nars and 99 Balloons by Ilia. I actually like the packaging. I can see where those who have remarked about the lipstick on a lipstick and sure I think they could have gone less literal but the colour and design is quite lovely, I think. I love the blush duo and the box although will not get the whole collection so won’t get the box but I would love to have Ruby Woo and Russian Red in this packaging and the blush. We will have to see.
This collection is suddenly making Mac desirable again. I’ve resisted Ruby Woo because I already own so many reds but now I’m wavering with the theme and packaging. The entire collection is seriously jeopardizing my low buy 2019.
I’m thinking Lotus Light is going to be a winner for me.
Not sure I’d call that middle one red. 🙂
If I see one more special “limited edition” from MAC this year I’m going to scream. What’s next “Special Edition for Tuesday”?!?
This made me chuckle out loud. 😀
I love a good red lipstick and these look pretty nice to me.
It looks so beautiful on her, but can anyone imagine wearing makeup like that in real life? I admit I am tempted to try!
