Is This a Love Affair Waiting to Happen?

bareMinerals The Love Affair Luminizer ($26.00 for 0.30 oz.) is described as a “pink nectar glow.” It’s a light, pink-tinged beige with a champagne-gold shimmer-sheen. Against my skin tone, it does seem a little warmer than it looks in the pan–but even in the pan, it does read warm. It reminded me of Bobbi Brown Rose Gold, when all blended together, though it had a frostier finish with less gold in it. MAC Porcelain Pink is lighter but comparable.

This shade is offered alongside The Shining Moment, which is a yellow-y gold hue.  If that shade was too warm for you, I think this would work better, though it will still add a warm glow to the skin.  It has a soft, finely-milled texture that blends out to a beautiful sheen with little shimmer, so it gives that lit-from-within effect once applied to the skin. The sheen over shimmer finish means it doesn’t emphasize pores or the skin’s natural texture, so it actually helps diffuse those things instead. It had great pigmentation, and it doesn’t have a white base, so it shouldn’t turn ashy on darker complexions. When I tested this for wear, The Love Affair wore for nine hours without fading.

Thanks for the review Christine..it was just 2 mins back I was hoping for this review from you and here it is..would it be possible for you to tell me if this or the shining moment will suit my NC42 skintone?

Thanks, Christine! I think I’m going to get the Chantecaille, even though it’s more expensive…what really helped when you said the Chantecaille has less of a sheen, which is what I’m looking for.

I’ve only recently gotten into highlighters. Having avoided them for years thinking my oily skin needed no help in the ‘sheen’ department.

Bare Minerals seem to have developed a winning pressed formula. I’m going to check this out when it hits the UK.

I have this and I love it! I swatched it alongside Dior Amber Diamond (your recommendation during Ask Temptalia) but I decided that this was a bit more subtle. I will still purchase Amber Diamond at some point but this is very lovely!

Yeah, DEFINITELY regretting not getting this during the VIB sale. I was planning on getting the gold one, but when I saw that Sephora only had this one (at the time, anyway), I decided to pass. It’s soooo pretty though! I think I thought it would be too pink/cool on me (because I did read a review that said it was, but it actually looks quite warm to me!)

This is beautiful, though I think I’m going to pass purely due to the warmer undertones. Love the formula, though! I hope it’s one keep around and release more shades in the future.

I love this whole look on you, though! It’s very soft and glowing and all around lovely. 🙂

i didnt look into this because i didnt reli like the white package,it looks cheap to me.
thanks you so much for the review, cos on the skin this highlighter is amazing

Would you recommend this for someone who has cooler undertones? Or would you recommend “the shining moment”? I’ve been looking for a good highlighter!

Christine, how does the texture and sheen in The Love Affair compare to NARS’ Albatross? I find Albatross to be too yellow for my NC30 skin tone at times. Would The Love Affair be the better option, or will its rose gold color be similar to NARS?

Thank you!

I found this at Ulta a few months ago and had never heard of it before. I did a swatch in the store (I found it at checkout) and loved the glow it gave so I bought it. I tried searching for it online at the time but literally nothing came up so I think my Ulta released it earlier than it was supposed to, lol.

I ended up purchasing another one of these recently since I love it and want a back up for when I run out (in however many years that will be). I had to laugh when I was at Sephora because they claimed it was available exclusively through them (even though I got my first one at Ulta back in October/November).

Thanks for the great review Christine! I’ve been looking for a great highlighter and wished I picked this up from Sephora when it was still there. Luckily this is still available from the Bare Escentuals website under Last Chance if anyone is interested. I just found it there today and immediately ordered it!
