Try a Shimmering Eggplant Eyeliner with a Neutral Eye
shu uemura Blackish Satin Purple Painting Liner ($25.00 for 0.098 oz.) is a darkened eggplant purple with very fine purple and burgundy micro-shimmer. In pencil form, Urban Decay Crash and Urban Decay Rockstar are both similar. Bobbi Brown Black Plum is a bit darker. Maybelline Plum is a dead-on dupe.
It’s creamy and has good pigmentation, so a single pass of product (I used MAC’s 208 brush to apply) yielded mostly opaque color coverage without skipping or tugging. Â When I tested it, the shade lasted eight hours without fading or migrating. It might seem a little intimidating, because it does have red in it, but there’s a lot of purple, some darkness, and that faint shimmer that makes it easier to wear than other red-toned purples. Â I think it works particularly well with neutral eyes or to accent gold or copper eyeshadows.

I have Rockstar and Benefit’s Stiletto, so I don’t really feel like I need this, but it is pretty and I do love Mon Shu muchly.

I seriously WANT this product! Colours in this range always make my khaki coloured eyes pop. Now if I could only get my mitts on it and shipped to Canada.. mission impossible? Shu Uemura annoys me in this regard.

Hmmmm. Made in Korea….must have some factory that makes this kind of cream eyeliner. The ones from YSL are also made in Korea.
How does it compare to MAC Dark Diversion?

The name seems like it should be the color description, but I sort of like that. It’s actually a pretty good idea.
Sooooo tempting…! I love the color, and I know it would be extremely flattering with my coloring, but I never wear “colored” eyeliner. In fact, I actually have the Maybelline Plum, which has been sitting in a case, unopened, for probably four years. After initially reading this post, I actually opened it for the first time, and it’s still good! I think now may be a good time to go on a no-buy for at least 6 months…
It’s a lovely color, but I think I’d go with the Maybelline, mostly because it’s easier to get in the US 🙂
Reminds me of MAC’s Dark Diversion…with perhaps a tad more shimmer. How do you think it compares?

Looks like UD rockstar and I don’t think it’s different enough from MAC Dark Diversion to purchase but it is beautiful.
Love the little Mon Shu so much. So cute! I wish these were available in stores. They do have free shipping until the 9th so I just might have to get this or maybe get the LE eyelash curler. Maybe both?!
