Guerlain Altoum Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Altoum Nail Lacquer
A Splash of Gold for Your Nails
Guerlain Altoum Nail Lacquer ($23.00 for 0.38 fl. oz.) is described as a “gleaming gold for precious glow.” It’s a pale golden beige with a metallic finish. I don’t have anything quite like it in my stash, so I’d love to hear if you know of any potential dupes. China Glaze White Cap is more of a white gold and has chunkier sparkle/glitter. China Glaze Fast Track is much, much darker and browner. Zoya Minka is more beige and much lighter.
The color coverage is opaque after two coats, and it applied smoothly and evenly. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, which enabled the polish to flow easily over the nail without bubbling, streaking, or pooling along the edges. Because of the metallic finish, there are visible brush strokes. I found them to be easily controlled, so they go on fairly straight, rather thank wonky has some polishes do. I get a full week of wear out of Guerlain’s polish with minor tip wear and no chipping. It dried faster than average.

This is such a pretty gold! Almost beige gold.
Too bad it’s so streaky and I also think it will look a bit odd with my skin tone.
Hm I don’t mind the streaks too much, really. It’s more the color that I’m not so sure about. I don’t think it would contrast enough with my skin.
Two possible dupes, though I don’t know if they make them any more. 1) MAC’s Sacred White. On my monitor, Altoum’s colour in the bottle and in the swatches looks identical to Sacred White. I pulled it out to compare and, yep, I see no difference, right down to the obvious (and annoying) nail strokes if I recall correctly. Possible dupe # 2 isn’t quite so identical but it’s close if I remember the look on the nails correctly. It’s Chanel’s Angora. In the bottle it looks pale gold but it’s a creamy beige with some frost/shimmer. Someone’s Flickr swatch: http://tinyurl.com/9kpbw5v
Honestly that polish does not look good. There is obvious patchiness.
That’s really too streaky for me.
Could the brush strokes be less noticeable with topcoat?
Definitely not 🙁
It’s really pretty but I think a bit warm for me. It’d be a great office friendly color for any conservative office, though.
Too bad you can definitely see the brush strokes!
This is stunning.
Man, that bottle looks SO cheap and generic. Other than the Guerlain logo on the top, it looks like some unlabeled polish you’d find on a dusty dollar store shelf.
The gold color is pretty, though. I like that it’s pale but not quite champagne.
I agree – the bottle needs some sort of detailing on the glass itself. It didn’t bother me the first go-round, but I was like, “Man, these need SOMETHING.”
Another total beauty!!! loving it!!!
Insofar as dupes, what about RBL Ani?
Ani has a similar look/feel, but it is more beige, less gold! 🙂
