Ok, what’s going on with the arms in the swatch pictures? They bend unnaturally and it looks like the upper arms are narrower than the forearms.

Aside from that, I’m curious about the blush/highlight palette.

Beth Avatar

Not to mention the hand positions, I hope I’m not the only one who put together the “cherry” theme and the implications of the v sign gesture. Bit crass even for UD.

Susan Avatar

The arms do look odd, but the hands, left to right, are signing the letter L, the letter V, and the sign for “I love you,” so I think the general meaning is “love.”

Carrie Avatar

I agree with the others below, it’s pointer (1), peace (2), and rock (3). I’m not going to pretend Urban Decay can overdo their edgyness sometimes, but none of these are inherently crude/vulgar gestures.

Kate Avatar

It’s a pointer finger, a peace sign, and a rock sign. How is that crass? I’m not being naïve, I just don’t think the gestures were intended the way you’re thinking.

xamyx Avatar

The hands are “surher” gestures… UD’s origins are Newport Beach, CA, so it’s likely an homage to that, especially since UD uses them quite frequently.

kjh Avatar

I think it’s ‘I love you’ and V. And they expect us to trust swatches, when the middle arm is a photoshop horror show? Maybe next year they can bring us a Summer’s Eve palette! Honestly, they think it’s edgy and that we miss some of the references. When the 2×4 hit me between the eyes, believe me, I got it. It’s pretty much on the level of pre- to elementary bathroom humor. But who expects dignified from most of the majors anyway? Dignified lasts. Urban Dictionary, oops, I mean Decay, names, etc are dated within a half year.

Kimberly Avatar

They look weird because the arms are half-laying on a table and the skin and muscle around the upper arm is hanging loose under the bone. Meanwhile, the gal in the middle just has an extra-wide elbow, but it’s not too un-proportional when you compare it to her hand. Source: Am also skinny and bony.

Alecto Avatar

I don’t think the arms are photoshopped — the lower arm just looks like it’s a skinny girl with the upper part of her arm “upright” (meaning the bicep is facing us) and lower part turned 90 degrees. Odd-looking, but not anatomically unrealistic.

AB Avatar

Well, I just don’t know. I’ve been wanting pinks lately — so have been watching for this release — but this palette reminds me of Naked Heat, which I have not enjoyed since all the shades are of a single range and most are too dark for me. The wine liner is interesting but depends on how metallic it is. For now I’m leaning no.

Seraphine Avatar

The cherry-scented spray makes me gag just thinking about it. Why in the world would you want to spray chemical cherries on your face? But I guess a lot of people like scented makeup products or there wouldn’t be so many of them. It’s just not for me.

As for the rest of it, ho hum. Everyone is putting out pink makeup all of a sudden. The palette is pretty, but I can probably dupe these shades several times over. I like when companies ditch the current trends by putting out something surprising.

Mariella Avatar

Oh gosh yes….when I was a kid, I had frequent ear infections and had to take “cherry flavoured” liquid antibiotics. GEEZ and yuk. I love cherries – they are probably my favourite fruit but lab-created cherry scents or flavours (even cherry ice-cream) – BLECH!

Ellen Avatar

IDK, Breyer’s Cherry Vanilla was a treat in my house growing up (we are not chocolate people). When Haagan Daaz came out with a cherry vanilla ice cream it was like manna from heaven. Only eat a few spoonfuls a year because who can afford having that in the house all the time,? Cherries should be in food, not on your face!!

Jen Avatar

I wonder if the aversion to that artificial cherry scent that a lot of people (including me) have has anything to do with the fact that so much medicine has cherry flavoring. That’s the first thing I think of when I smell it.

Mariella Avatar

Ooops – should have read your comment before I replied to Rachel but yes, for me, cherry flavoured medicine (which tasted nothing like cherry) has left me with an aversion to cherry flavouring or scents.

Trish Avatar

It’s a nice assortment, but I just cannot get excited over collections that are twice the price of a comparable ColourPop collection, and similar quality (at best). I really start to question why it’s worth spending the extra money.

Lea Avatar

Same here. Colourpop, BH Cosmetics and even Morphe put out enough high quality inexpensive palettes that it’s just hard to justify a $50+ palette any more, unless the color story is something revolutionary. Even then, too, all you need to do is wait a few months until a cheaper brand comes out with something similar (I’m thinking of my $12 dupe of ABH’s Subculture…).

Cjay Avatar

I really wish this had been released a few years ago when I hadn’t been sick to death of pinky-reds and I woukd have eaten it up! (No pun intended.) I love the theme though. I could be tempted to buy just for the packaging alone but I doubt I would use the colors all that much.

I will most assuredly be picking up the pencils though. The 24/7 formula is a staple of my collection. I always wish I had more colors to choose from.

foxwaffles Avatar

I wonder why the palette isn’t $54? Not complaining though!

I tried the Etude House Cherry Blossom palette but it’s just so difficult to work with but I love the pink theme…I’m definitely going to have to swatch it. If it’s pink too then I might bite! Of course though, I’ll be waiting for your review.

Nikki Avatar

The Love Drug pencil looks really pretty! It’s the only Naked Cherry item that’s calling to me right now-there are other things I’d rather have (Too Faced 20th Anniversary shadow palette and Disney x ColourPop Designer Be Our Guest, Under the Sea, and A Whole New World shadow singles over UD Naked Cherry palette; UD Born to Run Ready lipstick and Disney x ColourPop Designer Jasmine and Snow White lipsticks over the UD Naked Cherry lipsticks)-but that could change later.

pearlykates Avatar

Just the wine colored liner for me. I cannot deal with fragrance in make up or skincare. Plus, I am pretty done on palettes. I’d like unique shades (that I don’t own) in cute packaging that is easy to remove/reuse so I can arrange my own palettes.

Susana B. Avatar

I’m dying to see your swatches of the eye palette! After the disappointment of the Backtalk palette, I’m super excited to see if this one fills my need for pink and plum tones.

Jane Avatar

Ooo, I take back what I said on the Charlotte Tilsbury Holiday palette, this UD one is much more muted remember seeing in the first photos of the set. Strange, it look sooo muted and darker than I first saw it, maybe it’s me. I really thought it popped a little more and was much more cherry, fuchsia looking. Now I’m disappointed, but that is a good thing for my wallet. 😉

Michelle Liberman Avatar

Getting bored with all the pink/red for eyes. It was fun for awhile but, you know, everything in moderation. The lippies however…..gorgeous!

Alecto Avatar

This is actually much pinker than I thought it would be from the original sneak peek images. This neutral-to-cool variation on the pink spectrum should be make a few people happy, especially after all the general discontent over unrelentingly warm palettes. It’s actually quite romantic-looking, which it totally not me, but since my stash is somewhat lacking in this part of the spectrum, I’m seriously considering getting this.

Lea Avatar

For a 12 pan palette at that price I would have hoped for a bit of a broader range of shades. I feel like this could have been edited down to a nice 5 pan palette instead.

kellly Avatar

I like the colors, I like the fact that this time it doesn’t contain carmine but I’m not thrilled about cosmetics carrying fragrances. What is up with all that anyway? I don’t need to have my face smell like any kind of fruit, gingerbread or any other edible.

Ellen Avatar

Too many un-usable hot pink eyeshadows from Anasthesia’s Modern Renaissance and Soft Glam. The lighter colors look good, but how many hot pink shadows does any one person need? When I mix Modern Renaissance with Soft Glam, I get some very usable combinations, too bad there is some overlap between the two, so I paid for several colors twice, the only one ever to get used up twice is the base color Tempura, and they are slightly different between the two! I know there have been complaints about too many orange palettes, I have red hair so I can tolerate those better, but who actually looks professional and naturally beautiful in dark pink and purple eyeshadows? Good for photo shoots, but not very useful in everyday life.

Lynnie Avatar

I find that pinks, and purples complement my (and others with the same) skin tone very well, and the deeper the color the more it shows up on my face. I’ve worn them in all kinds of situations in my everyday life, and have never run into any problems with them
