*Haul – Paula’s Choice 10% Azelaic Booster–it’s awesome! Does live up to the hype– after less than a week, I’m already seeing brighter, more even skin and dark acne scars are fading. The product is lightweight and mixes well with other skincare
*Weekend – Sephora Rouge Preview event (excited!), trip to DMV (should be fun), clean up garage since our area is having a big recycling/trash/shredding event
*Haven’t played since Pac Man came out LOL Still remember the old video arcade stores

I missed this one on my last order. Paula is no longer my primary s/c. What is the texture? How oily? Trying to decide between this and the ordinary version. Paula must be thinner, as the ordinary squeezes from a fat tube, not dropper. Being old, and oily/dehydrated, the thinner the better. What blows me away about azelaic is how it takes down inflammation, at least in spots, in a few hours. IDK about large areas. Thanks, Katherine.

Katherine T. Avatar

kjh -it’s not oily at all, says it’s an oil-free product. It’s a very lightweight cream, has a thin and airy feel , with a bit of silicone to give it some slip, spreads quickly and absorbs well, with no shine left behind, almost disappears. Comes in a tube that you squeeze. Mixes very well with other moisturizers, retinols, serums. I’ve put it all over my face with no issues, wears well under sunscreen and makeup. Think it’s definitely worth a try and if you don’t like it, Paula has a good return policy. If you try it, let me know how it goes !

Tammy Avatar

I started using the Paula’s Choice Azelaic booster one week ago today. Since Curology is mixing azelaic with Retin A, and I use salicylic acid under Retin A, I decided to mix the azelaic acid booster (which also contains salicylic acid) with my Retin A and see what happens. It’s been one week without a hormonal acne outbreak. Fingers crossed!!!

kjh Avatar

I’ve been using azelaic/ordinary in a targeted fashion over differin. Why I should have to at nearly 70 baffles and annoys me. But there are a lot of other factors, too, like the residuals of inverse psoriasis, that unfortunately hit my ‘beard area’ and literally collapsed that skin overnight. Hoping it will recover. My new doc, both a rheumatologist and dermatologist, wasn’t at all sure where to start. Giving me non-covered, out of pocket scripts at 370$ and $170 was not my idea of the way. Never get old. Medicare drug plans have covered only 2/7 meds i’ve had prescribed. AND I WON’T PLAY. Think i’ll get the Paula

Sam Avatar

I hadn’t heard of this Acid Booster before. My sister has some acne scars that she’s sensitive about so I’m always trying to look for something to help fade them away. We used the Exolikate for a while, and it cleared up her skin a bit but she still has some deep scars. I’ll look into this.

Thanks!

Looks like Mellan is daring you to pick up that toy! Adorable!!

Ulta 21-Days Sale Haul: Estée Lauder Daywear. I’m almost finished with my current jar, so this sale came along at the perfect time!

Rediscoveries: Nothing this week.

Weekend Plans: Visiting family, chores, relaxing, reading, maybe a bit of shopping

Video Games: The only game I play is Wordscapes on my phone, but I don’t think that qualifies as a video game.

Erica Avatar

Haul/rediscoveries : Becca Prosecco Pop at the CCO and the Loreal Peach Blush in Bashful. Rediscovered my KVD Saint n Sinner palette. I know she’s a bit persona non grata right now but I pulled it out anyway bc I haven’t used it in awhile.

Weekend plans : looking for a homecoming dress for my daughter. I really want to go pick some apples. I’m ready for fall!!

Video games: I don’t play any. They don’t interest me one bit!

Sarah Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: No hauls, sadly. All my makeup is in boxes and I’m working with very little until my big move. My base makeup is all the same but I do switch it up with the JH x Morphe Vault and I really like mixing and matching the palettes to make interesting looks. I’ve been reaching for Bling Boss the most, I never thought I could like purples and pinks but I guess I do!

Weekend plans: Laundry and packing, and maybe I’ll finally catch up on Attack on Titan. I fell behind after Season 2 started and the show is well into Season 3 now.

Do you play any video games?: Oh loads! My favorite right now is World of Warcraft, but I’ve also rediscovered some oldies but goodies. Final Fantasy 7 has been getting some pretty heavy play from me lately. And thanks to one of my favorite Twitch streamers I want to play Cities Skylines and slam meteors into the terrain.

Weekend plans: blog…. Resume… work…

Do you play any video games?: Not so much anymore Bendy and the Ink Machine and DokiDoki literature Clue was the last two, was into Action RPGs and JRPGs for years.

Sam Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: I’m trying to pan some eyeshadow palettes (my collection is at 20+) and I started using the Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes again. I remember really wanting this palette when it came out and I used it a lot when I bought it but I hadn’t touched it again till recently. I did a cranberry eye look today for casual Friday at work.

Weekend plans: I have class on the weekends so I’ll be working in the library…

Do you play any video games?: I’m not an active gamer, but I’m looking forward to the Spyro Reignited trilogy that comes out later this year. I used to play Spyro and Crash as a kid and was estatic that both games got re-released. I’m not fond of some of the art style changes, but I’m hoping to introduce this game to a friend of mine.

Blue Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: Nooni Snowflake Whip and CosRx Low pH Good Morning Gel face cleansers with the hilarious Nooni “Marshmallow Whip Maker” that is definitely a little butter churn for your face wash to make it the consistency of shaving foam. I am HIGHLY skeptical that foaming it does anything beneficial to the skin but it’s so funny! And I guess I never have to buy shaving cream again? It really gets a thick creamy foam going!

Weekend plans: I just had my “weekend” camping on the Olympic peninsula. We mostly kept dry and it was gorgeous. Had an amazing time.

Do you play any video games? Sometimes I binge play a game, mostly retro platformers or some type of casual gaming. Most recently I played Animal Crossing on DS which was fun, but I hate interacting with the residents of my town so I ran out of steam lol

Haul/Rediscoveries: Estee Lauder Double Wear in the new lightest shade 0N1 (honestly not sure I get the hype, tbh), bite beauty lip pencils in 06, 10, 12, & 24 (technically ordered last week but arrived this week), and just ordered the Charlotte Tilbury pillowtalk lipstick & lip liner.

Weekend plans: Trying to stay sane after a busy work week.

Do you play any video games?: None at all. Didn’t have a lot of money as a kid so I never had the classic video games people always talk about (NES, N64, etc.) and after never playing them as a kid/teen I really never had an interest as an adult. The most I do is play two dots on my phone when I’ve scrolled through all my social media feeds and have no new posts left to read lol.

Nancy T Avatar

That’s hilarious how at first you’re talking to him in the tone we take with babies, and then when he hesitates to do as he’s told, the octave drops several degrees! I do this with mine, too. But it just sounds so funny to hear someone else do it!

Haul: All the orders have landed! Safely and soundly expect for WnW Dragon Scales. The transition shade literally blew up inside the packaging. Contacted WnW immediately, they shipped a replacement right out to me at no cost. Excellent CS! Pat McGrath Executive Realness is as gorgeous as all have said. I felt beautiful wearing it!
I hit Sephora for their Weekly WOW of UD 24/7 Pencils. Picked up: Corrupt, Alkaline, Torch and Stash. Apparently, I’m only allergic to Perversion, not these, though!
At MAC: It’s Just Candy Grand Illusion lip gloss. It is a stunner! And feels very soothing on.

Weekend plans: Taking it slow, as I just received my Remicade infusion yesterday. Just doing my hair later today, and playing with the thought of going to a local salon and going shorter. Listening to the meeting on Sunday.

Do you play any video games? Nope! Not to say that I’ve never tried, but I always either get bored or way too frustrated with them.

Haul/Rediscoveries:

*Kohl’s — Pur My Little Pony the Movie Eyeshadow Palette (on clearance for $11.60).

*Macy’s — Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Shadow Palette in Prism

*Darling Girl GlitterGrams Subscription — Debra Morgan-themed collection, with appropriately profane and hilarious shade names that I won’t repeat here. LMAO

Weekend plans: Take my son shoe shopping. He scored an internship at Embassy Suites through the amazing Project SEARCH (for people with various Development Disabilities), and needs some black-soled shoes.

Do you play any video games?: I sometimes play a PC game, but I’m not a big gamer.

Rachel R. Avatar

Thank you, Genevieve! It’s a great program called Project SEARCH. They help developmentally disabled adults of various functioning and issues (my son has very high-functioning Aspberger’s Disorder, some are lower-functioning, some are autistic, some have Down’s Syndrome, etc.). They provide job skill training, 3 rotations in different departments, and job placement help afterward. They have a near-perfect job placement record. He’ll be working at Embassy Suites (part of the Hilton Family). The sales director adores Brandon and says he’s going to make sure there is a sales rotation him!

I hope David had a great birthday!

Haul/Rediscoveries:

Before I get started on new purchases, I just want to mention the outstanding products I already own that I am loving this week.

I know I just purchased the Two Faced Peach Perfect foundation a couple weeks ago but I was wearing samples two weeks before that and I just gotta say, I love this foundation! It is never matte on me (but in the summer I’ve got shine to spare). I can keep it sheer (my preferred coverage) and apply with my fingers (my preferred method of application), yet it still really smooths the appearance of my skin, minimizes pores, and reduces discoloration. I can’t feel it in my skin. The most important factor with any foundation is whether or not it makes my skin look beautiful, and this definitely is a pretty foundation. I love Born This Way and now Peach Perfect is another Too Faced hit.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish compact powder. I’ve been using this now for 18 months and though I own many powders, this would be in my top three all time favorites.

Pat McGRATH Decadence Palette. I bought five Pat McGrath palettes in the early part of 2018 and promised myself I would not buy anymore eyeshadows until I had really gotten intimate with these five. I played with Decadence several times when I first got it and was disappointed with the results. At this point I know that the things that don’t work out in the beginning may later become favorites, so I did not return the palette. About two weeks ago I started playing again, and Mother of God, this palette is amazing! I haven’t been able to create a bad look, no matter what colors I throw together. I’m so glad I let this one rest on the backburner for awhile. I think this is going to be THE palette of late summer and fall of 2018 for me.

NARS Wanted II blush palette. I have a confession: even though I bought this palette 6 months ago, I did not start using it until this week. Today I am wearing Queen, Exposed and PYT, and they are amazing. I could tell the pigmentation was going to be insane so I used my softest, gentlest stippling brush and just barely touched the blushes, and still the color is bold. This is a GREAT palette for girls with deeper skintone sort those who love a bold brush.

NARS Audacious lipstick in Greta. We were discussing the Audacious lipsticks we owned a couple years back on Temptalia. Christine asked me at the time which one was my favorite and I couldn’t choose. Now a few years in (and owning approximately 20 of the shades), I can honestly say my favorite is Greta. I pull it out every year in late summer and am always amazed how good this lipstick looks against warm-toned tan skin.

Onto the haul: Ulta had a 20% off for Ulta cardholders about two weeks ago, so I used this as an opportunity to replenish some basics in preparation for winter and try some new products as well.

NARS Precision Lip Liner in Venice. I am PASSIONATE about my other four NARS lip liners but this one is just okay. It is not the quality, it’s me. How can one use the word love and nude in the same sentence? Not me, lol. But it is a good nude liner for those days when fuchsia, coral, red or violet are not appropriate. (In other words, if I’m feeling low or sick, lol.)

Four CeraVe PM moisturizers. I always keep several bottles in the cabinet for my husband, children, neighbors, strangers on the street. I mean, how can one pass up a good moisturizer that contains ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid that costs less than $15???

La Roche Posay Toleraine Double Repair Moisturizer. I use this when I’ve pushed my skin past its limit with actives. Two days of this and I’m ready to restart the anti-aging abuse ?

Benefit Precisely My Brow. I’m giving this a go just out of curiosity. So far I’m liking it.

Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper. Wow, Milani, I had no idea. Every bit as good and maybe a little better than Fenty Gloss Bomb (I’m running, please don’t throw things at me!).

CeraVe Hydrating Face Cleanser. Gearing up for winter.

Alpha Skincare Revitalizing Body Lotion (12% glycolic acid). Repurchase. I will probably use this forever.

Shea Moisturize Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate and Repair Multi Action Leave In Conditioner. I am wed to my Ouidad products for my very curly hair but daughter, who also has equally curly hair and is on a budget, really likes this one. I bought it for her.

Lily Lazy Day All In One Moisture Pads. This product was in Gothamista’s August Favorites video. If you haven’t heard of her, you should definitely check her out. She just put out an eye cream video that I wish everyone would watch. I am excited about using these pads on the weekends, especially when I am sick or tired and want something really easy and really hydrating to nurture my skin.

One last item (whew!): I was THRILLED Ulta had Murad’s Hydrodynamic Ultimate Moisture for half on this week during the 21 Days of Beauty sale. This is such a wonderful moisturizer! I first heard about it from Caroline Hirons and after using my Sephora sample, I knew I had to have it. I have combination skin that gets dry from Retin A so it can be challenging to get the hydration I need without putting a layer of gunk that sits on top of my skin and feels very uncomfortable. This stuff is great. I can spritz my face with a hydration spray, lay this down, and repeat if my skin still wants more. I was willing to pay full price for this $75 moisturizer but snagged it for half price. So I got TWO.

Weekend plans: I always think I’m going to grocery shop, cook and gym, and later find out I’m doing so much more. So I’m gonna tell you about last weekend instead, when I did grocery shop, cook, and workout, but also attended a wedding and wine party. I’ll tell you about this weekend during the next free haul.

Video games: No. Never. Not under any circumstances. No.

Genevieve Avatar

So glad that the Decadence palette has worked out for you – you would have kicked yourself if you had sent it back!
All the moisturisers you have purchased sound pretty good. We don’t have CeraVe handy to us in a DS type store, so that’s a pain. I would love to try their products. And you can’t go past LaRoche Posey’s products either – I generally buy them when they are on sale, so I stock up.
Enjoy your weekend Tammy.

Haul: clothes for my sister and two tank tops for me.

Rediscoveries: Ciate Palettes, I had to do makeup on my sister for a job interview early in the morning and I forgot how nice they were.

Weekend: Elroy has been sick so we have to play catchup. It’s going to be a yard work and housework bonanza.

Video Games: Yes, but I don’t do a lot of it. League of Legends and WoW. I haven’t recommitted to WoW per se but I might since my husband and brother are back into it.

kjh Avatar

Haul: nada, and not doing the S preview, either. Unfortunately, might hit rouge again; tried not to. Rediscovery: CT landing at S made me retry the Sex on Fire blush. Better than I initially thought. Plans: dog show on the Cape tomorrow; partially business. Got 2 ‘spensive collars, of which one was incorrectly made as a martingale. Been trying to catch this guy for a couple of years, and he seems to attend different shows than I do. Grrr. Otherwise, SSDW. No video games, even strategy ones.

Lesley Avatar

Haul: Emily Needs and Emily Wants Revolution palettes. We have a few trips planned and I have been playing with the Needs palette in the hope that it will simplify packing. It is pretty basic, though, and I miss having a bright shimmer. Wants still is in its package.

Weekend plans: None. Maybe that is a good thing.

Video games? No. They never appealed to me. But I don’t really enjoy games of any sort.

Mariella Avatar

Haul: a quite large bottle of Guerlain Shalimar – at COSTCO, of all places. It was $60-something and it’s the exact same bottle that sells for $122!!!! I’m not a huge fan of any Guerlain fragrances as they just don’t smell great on me but from time to time, I do like to wear Shalimar and I cannot find the tiny bottle of perfume – the lovely “old” stuff – that I used to have so I was glad to find this.
Weekend plans: unpacking (we just got home from a trip to Halifax and PEI) and putting my travel stuff away so I can find it for next time! Gym tomorrow and I think I might make some artisan bread too, just for the heck of it.
Video games – no, but I get a kick out of watching my young adult children and their friends playing those daft games like Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes when my older son is home and all the friends turn up!

Genevieve Avatar

Mellon is totally your baby still!

Haul: One of my favourite beauty shops in my local shopping centre, is moving to larger premises, so they were having a very generous sale this week, so I took advantage of that and bought a few things.
Physicians Formula Argon Oil x 4, Burts Bees Sensitive Cleansing Cream x 2, L’Oreal True Match foundation in Rose Dore x 1, Skinn Physics Night Cream and A’Kin Night cream.

Weekend Plans: On Friday we always have the pleasure of our grandson’s company. I took him to the local shopping centre to help me pick out our eldest son’s birthday cake. David is turning 35 on Saturday and is a devoted uncle to both Olivia and Lachlan. Lachlan picked out a chocolate cake….
Saturday, we are going out for lunch to celebrate David’s birthday and will be having the dessert back at home.
Sunday – just relaxing.
I hope everyone affected by Hurricane Florence is safe and well. It’s a pretty terrifying hurricane.

Video games: Nope, never played them and I am not that keen on them.

Genevieve Avatar

Thank you Tammy. We had a lovely lunch at a nearby hotel, with a playroom, as the weather was too cold and wet to go anywhere else. They came back to our place and the kids had a big play with Brio trainset (Family room) and the duplo Thomas set in the Rumpus room….. Their parents were able to have a little rest..
We are having a relaxing weekend.

Tracey E Avatar

Haul: Nothing this week. Have really been enjoying Bobbi Brown’s Camo Collection. Everything is beautifully pigmented and the multi-chrome Luxe eyeshadows are stunning. I’m using Incandescent Luxe shadow in place of Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Pop’ shade in the Pillow Talk eyeshadow palette, and wearing Jungle Luxe every chance I can get.

Weekend Plans: I feel a need to organize and tidy the place. Might visit a local jeweler’s pop up on Sat. Watching NFL games on Sunday.

Videogames: I don’t play any but grew up playing a ton.

Thinking of all who are affected by Hurricane Florence. Residents and responders, please stay safe. To anchors who feel the need to be out in the elements, drenched and blown off their feet, get inside! I can see the ferocious weather through your lens!

AJ Avatar

Haul: My “Freak” UD 24/7 liner arrived, as did my Julep Maven Box, which had 3 shades of nail polish (one I already had, whoops) and a charcoal konjac sponge for my partner. I’ve already tried out one of the nail shades, a nice smoky plum purple with a very subtle golden shimmer, so nice for fall and will be great for Winter too.

Weekend plans: Last night I picked my partner up from the airport, we grabbed dinner at one of our favorite restaurants which is down on that end of the metro area, then went to a concert at a coffee shop. Today I’m getting a massage then we’ll probably wander around and have some dinner and drinks. Tomorrow will likely be sticking close to home for chores, and I’ve got an on-line belly dance class in the morning.

Video games: I played Guild Wars, and then Guild Wars 2 for YEARS, since the original game was in beta, buuuuut I disagreed with some recent personnel decisions made by the company so I quit. Haven’t found a replacement game yet.
