NARS 47th Street Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS 47th Street Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner
It’s a Starry Night on 47th Street
NARS 47th Street Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner ($28.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “black with silver shimmer.” It’s a dark black with chunky silver sparkle–it’s definitely larger than what you’d expect of shimmer. I couldn’t think of anything similar to this (not to say that there aren’t dupes, just nothing I know of). The closest that I could come up with was MAC Black Swan, which is black with more of a blue shimmer-sheen. MAC Smooth Manoeuvre is also black with a couple of bits of silver shimmer but hardly any. Update: A few readers suggested Urban Decay Oil Slick, which is a silver-shimmered black, and it is a softer, lighter black (almost looks gray in comparison), and the sparkle is a lot subtler/smaller, so it’s not quite the same, but it is similar!
It applies well and evenly, with just enough glide to slide on smoothly without tugging, skipping, or pulling but not so much that it impairs the wear. The black seems to stay put, even after eight hours–no budging or smudging or fading–but some of the silver glitter travels below the lash line where it was originally. It doesn’t appear to travel far and wide, but it does migrate somewhat. 47th Street had good color payoff in a single pass, and it provided a nice dark black line with silver sparkle–not a super intense black, but it’s darker than a soft black. I liked this shade more than some of the past shades I’ve tried in this formula.

This is a “maybe” on my wishlist. While it’s very pretty, I’m not sure how much I’d actually wear it, and at $23, it’d have to be something I wore at least once a week.
On a side note, the eyeshadow palette looks like it performs well. Again, too bad it’s not in separate pans.
It should definitely be a color you’d reach for regularly, not just once in a great awhile!
How does it compare to Urban Decay Oil Slick?
It is a softer, lighter black (almost looks gray in comparison), and the sparkle is a lot subtler/smaller, so it’s not quite the same, but it is similar.
OH wow this eyeliner is gorgeous!!! NARS is on my fab list for the winter season! I especially love the look you created and your use of purple gradient into the peach! Lovely!
Thanks, Nikki!
Hey. Urban Decay Oil Slick 24/7 liner seems like a good dupe, to me at least.
It is a softer, lighter black (almost looks gray in comparison), and the sparkle is a lot subtler/smaller, so it’s not quite the same, but it is similar. HTH!
For some reason i can’t sign into my account, but I’ll still contribute. Just a warning to everyone that the NARS larger than life pencils dry out really fast so if you’re thinking of purchasing a color that you won’t use as often I wouldnt do it!
Thank you for sharing, Stephanie!
Maybe Chanel Mirifique is a good dupe?
yeah, to me it does look similar to mirifique when i use it as an eyeliner 🙂
woow love it
I love the look you created with it!
That’s actually really pretty! I don’t know how often I’d actually use it though
very pretty shade and look 😀
Hi, i’m wondering what are your recommendations for the blackest eye shadow? I’m going to use this eye shadow as an eyeliner and since I find you to be the most knowledgeable when it comes to make up so i thought i’d trouble you. And which do you think is darker UD’s Blackout or LM’s Tightline Cake Eyeliner in Black Ebony?
I haven’t tried Laura Mercier’s Black Ebony – sorry! Blackout is very black – there are several super black black eyeshadows, and they’re all pretty much the same in my experience. Blackout is definitely very rich!
Hnn, that’s quite pretty! Better than I expected with all the glitter.
As far as dupes go for those who prefer liquid liner, Almay’s Black Pearl comes fairy close, though the glitter is less chunky and more shimmery. I have a glittery Sephora brand liquid liner that was an even closer dupe, but I suspect that it’s been discontinued. 🙁
Ooh, I like the sparkle in it. I always use black eyeliner, but this would be a fun alternative.
Sparkle! Sparkle that’s actually visible after it’s applied! *flails*
(Seriously, though – for the number of liners we see with shimmer/sparkle/glitter in them, it’s so rare to actually be able to see the shimmer outside of the tube. Good on you, NARS!)
i LOVE that the sparkle is still pretty noticable when it’s applied! i bought UD’s oil slick a while back and was so sad to see that you couldn’t even see the sparkle in it once i had it on 🙁
