Cloudless Skies Aren’t Such a Faraway Dream

Rescue Beauty Lounge Faraway Nail Lacquer ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “serene, cloudless desert sky.” It’s a warm, welcoming light-medium sky blue with softer aqua blue micro-shimmer in a very creamy finish. China Glaze Splish Splash is cooler-toned, bluer. Deborah Lippmann On the Beach is a smidgen lighter and has no shimmer. NARS Koliary is barely lighter and has no shimmer. Zoya Phoebe is fractionally darker and has a matte finish. Zoya Robyn is just a wee bit lighter and has no shimmer.

The consistency of Faraway is just slightly thickened, but it is incredibly pigmented–two coats is totally opaque, but it’s very nearly opaque after one. There was very slight pooling along the side if you’re not somewhat mindful about how thick a coat you’re using. The play of the micro-shimmer seems to be a real hallmark of a Rescue Beauty Lounge polish–it is for the person who loves a hint of shimmer but never wants it to be the first thing you notice. For someone who prefers lots of shimmer, this won’t be noticeable enough for you. I typically get a full week of wear with no chipping and only very minimal tip wear out of the brand’s formula–it’s one of the longer-lasting formulas I’ve come across.

Curiously, it even looks thick on your nails, Christine!  Great photography!  I love the bit of sparkle in this one and the colour is lovely, but I’m not a fan of thicker nail enamel having shorter, narrower and steeper curved nails.  It makes it too darned tricky to get a decent manicure.

This color is beautiful, but still not all that special. The shimmer is just too subtle for my taste. I don’t need to be over the top, but if it is supposed to be a shimmer I want to actually be able to see it without hitting the light just the right way or it might as well be a creme.I’ve always wanted to try RBL but I’ve yet to find a color that makes
me feel like that’s the one worth splurging $20+ not inconsiderable
shipping on and this isn’t it. Oh well.

Love this shade! I have really been into medium blues lately. Zoya Jo is my favorite so far, and this one seems somewhat similar, maybe a bit lighter/dustier/less blue (kinda hard to tell from online swathces – most swatches of Jo are way off). It’s definitely a polish I’ll be checking out!

I like Rescue Beauty’s nail polishes but have been disappointed by how subtle the shimmers are in some of their polishes. I bought their LE Piu Mosso, in the bottle it looks like an inky blue with orange/ coppery shimmer, but on my nails it just looked like a navy blue unless I had them a couple inches from my eyes. For the price, especially after shipping costs, I often look to see if there is a cheaper dupe out there.

BonnieSeifert I agree! When it’s done well, it’s phenomenal, but some of the recent releases have been too subtle. If you can’t see it with your eyes, what’s the point? Just make it a cream, then. It’s kind of like a bottle of polish that looks all lovely and duochrome in the bottle but has barely any flash once applied.

Kiss and Makeup LOL! They’ve been around a really long time, but they’re a niche brand – almost exclusively online distribution and at this price point, obviously appealing to an even smaller market from the get-go!

Christine (Temptalia) 🙂 I know my way in the make-up back alleys of teh internet, but I never stumbled across this brand 🙂  It probably doesn’t help that I’m not in the US, though.  I’ll remember this brand!

A friend of mine loves RBL and I see why, the colors are lovely. But I love shimmer and sparkle on my nails and this is kind of, well, boring. The color’s pretty, but if a polish is going to have shimmer, make it visible. This looks like a creme that’s attempting to be a shimmer and doing it badly, to me. Either make it a full creme or enhance the shimmer, but this just doesn’t work.

It’s a pretty & fun shade for summer, but $20 plus an additional $7.50 for shipping is a turnoff for me, especially since there are lots of more affordable dupes out there!

I was just swatching this one today!  I am always disappointed by the lack of shimmer showing up on my nails and it took me a while to get the application down on these polishes.  They are very thin {usually} so I often need more coats than usual for coverage despite the ‘nearly opaque in 1 coat’ reviews I see everywhere.  I do like subtle shimmer instead of outright bling bling but I don’t think I should have to be out in full sun with the nails a few inches from my face to detect it.  Still I am a sucker for her colors
