I’m so excited for this! I don’t own a single Mac Lipstick and neither does my mother. I think I’m gonna get Delish or Dare You. I haven’t shown her the available colors yet but I think she’ll like Aloof!

I wanted to share how the whole experience went for my mother and I!

We have a Mac Counter at our Macy’s and they don’t open until 11am on Sunday so we got there right at 10am and we were tenth and eleventh in line! The others in line were talking about last year’s event was DISATROUS. They explained that two lines formed at different entrances and one door was opened several minutes before the other one was and this upset a lot of people.

Clearly they learned their lesson because they had signs posted where the line would be and handed out wristbands. Right before 11am the line appeared to have less than 30 people in it and my guess is because people may have been scared off from last year’s fiasco! lol

I chose Dare You and my mother picked Delish, and then after that we went to Sephora to pick up the free face masks. All in all it was a pretty great Sunday morning!

I’m so confused about the date for this. Is it the 28th at some locations and the 29th everywhere? Its that “available at all US and Canada MAC full line locations open on 7/28” line that’s confusing me…

If I can figure out which day I’m so going to try to snag Florabundi, it looks cute!

Not doing it. I am trying to reduce the number of lipsticks I own, and despite having not purchased any this year, I have acquired three (all freebies). I’m not driving 20 minutes and standing in line in the quest to get a lipstick I don’t need.

(That said, if Chili were one of the options, I would be a lot more tempted.)

Mine too! I was looking for a unique and different lipstick shade at a MAC counter about 4 years ago & the sales associate recommended Chili. She was correct – it suits my skin tone & is unique. I only wear mine in the summer when I have a slight tan.

At least the lipstick colors are more desirable this year to be given out.
Based in the stories from last year….it may not be so desirable for “free”.
In less then 10 minutes, likely gone to all the sales associate to the mall. I have Moxie.

I was already planning on getting some new brushes (I’m actually quite impressed with the 2 new ones I got after the re-launch), I now just have to decide on a lipstick shade; I have my red, burgundy, nude, my-lips-but-better, purple… I have to think what’s missing. 😀

My National Lipstick Day 2017 Experience (I swear this is not an exaggeration):

I attempted to get a free MAC lipstick at Macy’s last year. I arrived at the store about 20 minutes before it opened and there were already hundreds of people in line outside of the various doors. When the doors opened, they stampeded, literally ran, towards the MAC counter. They were loud, rude, and pushy. The line was incredibly long and people were impatient and argumentative. Some were opening drawers and grabbing things! I felt sorry for the sales associates. Police were even called at one point! It took me a moment to realize why there were so many couples in line…because of the one-lipstick-per-customer rule! Such greed. I immediately decided that no lipstick was worth that madness and left. The insanity was even shown on the local news stations that evening. You’d think they were giving away giant flat screen TVs, not a measly tube of lipstick. I’d rather spend $18.50 than do that again!

But the shades do look pretty. I’ll wait till they return in the fall to look at them. Not that I need a 42nd MAC lipstick, mind you!

This is exactly why you couldn’t pay me to get a free lipstick from anyone. The worst tends to come out in people, it’s just a lipstick. It’s not like you don’t have several others.

It’s a shame to see otherwise rational people act so rude and so greedy over a lipstick.

lara Avatar

lol thanks for sharing. Not to stereotype but i’m amazed that there are men who would stand in line w/their SOs for this. I could not pay my guy enough to do this. No thanks for me either.

Naomi Avatar

Glad they are offering to order online as well. You still get a free lipstick even though you have to make a purchase, but definitely beats standing in line with the possibility of not getting the shade you want or even worse not coming out with anything!

kellly Avatar

Well, if I get up at 4 and feel like standing around for 7 hours until the MAC store opens, I might get one. I went to the last one and the lines were IN.SANE. It hardly seems worth it.

I appreciate they’re doing this, but I never go anywhere when things are being given away for free — mostly because I can’t stand human beings. I guess it’s worth looking to see if there’s $25 worth of stuff I might want online. The only MAC lipstick I have is Lust Extract, but I use their paint pots, and am hollowing out Groundwork at a decent clip. Trying to decide if it’s worth it — Mixed Media and Dare You are the only two I’d be interested in.
