What's your tolerance level for lip color that settles into lines or emphasizes texture?

If I can’t see it from a normal distance, I’m not too bothered by it, but if it’s something I can see without having to try, it’s a big pass. I don’t mind color that settles a bit toward the end of wear compared to something that starts that way.

It depends on the product, really. If it’s a liquid lipstick that emphasizes lip lines a lot and also feels horrible on my lips I’ll give it a pass, but if its a more comfortable formula I let it slide. I don’t have perfectly smooth lips and never will, so some texture and lines will always show through.

That actually really bothers me. That used to happen to me with the Guerlain Rouge G lippie I had about 5 years ago. It was my favorite red in the whole wide world, but that prevented me from wearing it more often. More recently, I’ve had to return lipsticks mainly for that reason. Using lipliner helps, but I don’t always use liner, and at my age (44) I don’t need my makeup making me look older.

ZERO for those dry-down ones that make my lips look like raisins! I despise that horrid textured effect.
As for ones that sink into my lip lines, I can almost always negate that by wearing MAC Prep & Prime lips underneath it or by using lip liner lightly all over my lips underneath the faulty lipstick. Typically, I just avoid buying those type of lipsticks, period. Your reviews have certainly helped me in this regard!

I can forgive a lipgloss that settles into lines because I can just use it over pencil or lipstick.

As for lipsticks, usually using lighter colors over lip balm or lip primer helps. A light shade that settles a little, but it’s not really noticeable except for up close, gets a pass from me. Brighter and darker shades are that settle are usually returned.

Funny it doesn’t bother me at all. With liquid metallic lipsticks I hate the fact they are dull, flat and lifeless but texture doesn’t bother me at all.

I can’t stand it running out of the lipline and into the fine lines outside the lip. Hate that.

Same comment as Janine. Exactly my feelings also!
I guess wearing the thick kind of Chapstick helps me I hardly notice that problem but what I cannot stand are lipsticks or lipglosses bleeding out is so gross. Lol! Feels to me like an old lady fully unaware what’s going on on her face. It has happened a couple of times with the L’Oréal ones (never with the WetnWild though ??) I honestly wish people would let me know. I see it at home in the mirror and is bad even a teeny bit. Lol! Just gross.

Life IS too short to wear bad makeup! I always say this both online and irl when I see people trying to use up products they don’t love. Just return it, gift it, or throw it out and wear the stuff you DO love!

I kind of feel like I have to have a certain tolerance for it as I have more and more lip lines as I age, both on the lips and above the lips. I can mitigate it a little with a lip primer and two that work well are MAC Prep and Prime for Lips and UD Ozone. Ozone works better for me if I am dealing with a more slippery formula as a too dry formula seems to ball up with the ozone. It also helps to fill in my lips with a lip liner before applying lipsticks that sink into lines. I like using the Two Faced Wax Lip Pencil to keep my lipstick from travelling up into the lip lines on my upper and lower lips (worse on the upper than the lower). However, I haven’t been able to find it in store or on line for awhile. I have remarked on Temptalia before that young women should avoid using straws and smoking cigarettes as they are two of the biggest culprits for lip lines as you age. And finally, that is why I like the PML Luxe Lips both Matte and Trance because they make my lip lines better than they actually are!!

Zero. I have tried hundreds of lipsticks and know for sure that most of them do not settle, so why should I tolerate those that do? And, because there are so many to choose from, I do not believe “unique color” can apply here, since there is such a huge choice out there.

Milky-looking lip products where the color settles into lip lines are a no for me.

I can tolerate lip products that emphasize dryness though. I like some of my matte lipsticks too much for it to be a dealbreaker.

No way. Why would I put something on my face that makes me look worse? Generally, these types of formulae tend to look MUCH better in the lighter shades than the dark or bright ones though. I’ve tried several where I’m fine with a pale pink, peach, or nude, but a big no in the brights and darks.
