Beautiful Beginnings with Laura Mercier

Beautiful Beginnings with Laura Mercier

What was the first Laura Mercier product you ever tried?  Did it pave way for a real romance or did it put you off the brand entirely?  What was the first product you purchased?  Did you love it? Hate it? Still own it?

my answer: The first product I remember trying was an eyeshadow quad called Tuxedo, which was basically a smoky gray/black smoky eye kind of palette. I really liked her Shimmer Blocs, though – pretty to look at and full of shimmer! Now, I’m a huge fan of her lip products, which seem to fly under the radar a bit, but they can pack some pigment!

My first Laura Mercier product was the caviar eyeliner which I really didn’t care for and thought the price was horrendous. I’ve tried a number of other products since then; eyeshadow, tinted moisturizer, etc.. and despite having a few good picks here and there, it’s just not a go-to label for me. In addition, it is one of those brands which I cannot shop for on-line without sending to a US address first and I do not find the products worth the extra effort and expense.

The first product I tried was actually the tinted moisturizer creme compact, and I really love it. It’s a breeze to apply, looks great on, and doesn’t feel cakey or heavy or anything. I do have to set it with powder or it gets a bit shiny, but I do have combo skin. I also have the matte powder in shine control and I like that a lot too. It’s not *quite* as good as my meteorites, but it’s still a good pressed powder.

My first Laura Mercier product was the Lip Glace in Ambre Rose. I was searching for the perfect lip gloss without a sticky formula, and this was definitely it! Have been wearing it for several years now and still love the formula and color range.

Last fall my love affair continued with the Rose Rendezvous highlighter which is still a favorite (so sad I don’t have a backup!) and the Canyon Sunset blush. Can’t wait to continue discovering more products from this line!

First thing I bought was the Flawless Face set that came with concealer pot, tinted moisturizer, primer, some brushes. I liked the set a lot, still have the concealer pot and that was from 2 years ago. Went a few months later and had a Laura Mercier artist give me a makeover at Sephora, so I bought the foundation, which I loved, and their full blown mascara, which is still one of my fav mascaras to date. Their lip glace are also my fav glosses. I’d buy more from LM if it wasn’t a bit too expensive compared to other brands.

About two years ago I was having some skin issues i/e redness and dryness around my chin and cheeks, I randomly passed a LM counter and was offered a trial of the oil free tinted moisturizer. The SA applied first the mineral primer, and I loved both products so those were my first purchase ever! I think the mineral primer actually helped my skin and I was also very impressed with the eye basics primer (at the time I had no idea such a thing existed LOL but it is my favourite and I am about to finish it up). So far I have a fair amount of products by the brand, and granted, they are pricey but the quality is excelent and will keep repurchasing. I also like that the SA’s are always very nice and knowledgeable.
Now that I think of it, the oil free TM kindda accentuates the dry bits on my skin, so I have been neglecting that one lately, in lieu of the regular one, which I have been using non stop for months now.
What I dislike is that the don’t have a very wide range of foundation shades.

I think my first purchase with them was many years ago. I think it was the original TM. I didn’t really like it it. Recenlty, I’ve gotten a few of their things. I really like to Secret Camouflage concealer and a LE lip glaze (don’t know if these are similar to their lip glaces). I would like to explore the brand more, but it isn’t cheap, so most things will have to wait.

The first product I’ve ever tried was the foundation primer, I had heard sooo many rave reviews about it but I ended up not liking it at all. I didnt see a difference in the look or wear of my foundation and kinda brushed the brand aside after that. Then out of no where I randomly tried translucent loose powder and feel in love! It set my foundation so beautifully! I then branched out to her mascara and recently feel in love with the Eye Canvas cream base. Overall this brand is excellent and I’m slowly falling in love with it.

Silk Cream Foundation when it was first released and I still use it today. In fact, I just bought one yesterday. I have rosacea and it covers any redness from that and spider veins on my face beautifully. I almost exclusively use her matte and luster eyeshadows (I occasionally use Clinique). Instead of using her eyeliner or tightliner cake, I use a wet, dark eyeshadow for lining. I also use her powder blush. I picked up my first Shimmer Bloc in Mosaic yesterday. I used some this morning and at lunch, I was still glowing.

LM is one of those brands I may stop to look at when I’m at Sephora, but honestly, nothing really makes me want to actually try the brand. I feel for the pricepoint, I want to be “wowed”; everything that’s even remotely caught my eye are “basics” that I already have in other brands, or I can find cheaper.

Danielle Avatar

The first product I ever tried was a sample of the foundation primer and I hated it, but that did not discourage me from trying other products. I love the silk creme foundation and wear it almost everyday. Also, the blush in Spiced Cider is an amazing color and the name gets me so excited for autumn.

My first LM product was an eyeshadow palette with 3 pink shades and a brown one. I used daily for a super subtle look. After that, I got a coral lipstick. All of this was like 5 years ago, when the brand was only available in a makeup store in Mexico City’s suburbs. Fortunately, it’s now available in some department stores now and is more accesible.

My first LM product was their Silk Creme foundation. It was one of the first high-end products I’d ever purchased and definitely the most expensive. It was one of those products where you keep putting it back in the original box every time after you use it, because you just don’t want to throw it away. The foundation is really good but unfortunately made me break out terribly – the worst break outs of my life, so I don’t still have it. One good thing about that experience is now I know never to buy products with a particular ingredient in it. Despite my bad experience with that foundation, the quality was still great, and I definitely went on to love the brand.

The only Laura Mercier product I own is the Creme de Pistache perfume. Her products are not sold at many places near my house but I’d like to check them out if I find them.

I adore the lip glaces. They’re one of my absolute favorite formulas. I’ve not tried many of the other products, but I’d like to eventually try more. The expense of the products, though, means it’s an occasional purchase.

Liz Avatar

The first and only product that I’ve tried is the foundation primer. It was the Sephora 100 point gift a couple of months back. I like it a lot. I’m planning on buying a full sized one once my current primer (Benefit’s Porefessional, which was also a bonus gift) is finished.

I believe the first Laura Mercier prouct I ever tried was her Sable eyeshadow (which I still have and love!). Then I got a Lip Glace in Babydoll. After that, I got a Shimmer Bloc in Peach Mosaic then finally caved and bought the much-raved-about Tinted Moisturizer (the oil-free version) recently. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from the brand and honestly am sort of surprised I don’t own more 😛

My first purchase was 5 years ago, the Silk Creme Foundation in Blush Ivory. Perfect skin tone match and still wearing it every single day. I topped it off with LM’s Translucent Powder, and still, every day. I enjoy the buttery consistency of the eyeshadows. I never tried the Caviar, but plan to in the future. I was disappointed with the lipsticks 5 years ago, and just this week took advantage of the “au revoir” ones, called the gel lipsticks. Also ordered the Canyon blush since it’s so unusual in its patterns, that it seems to capture the pinks, the corals, the nudes. The pallette looks particularly interesting, so ordered that to so I could see what the heck “tightlining” is all about. I feel her foundation finish, though is absolutely silky canvas, and covers the most dispicable redness, or acne flair-up, or even the dark areas under the eye.

The only LM product I have is an eyeshadow called African Violet. It’s a beautiful violet color with a copper shimmer. Really unique. Goes on smoothly and lasts all day. I really need to check out some of her other products. Really want to try a Laura Mercier blush.

Whenever I try a new brand, I almost always start with a lip product. I picked up 2 lip glaces a few years ago and it’s become one of my favorite formulas. I also enjoy her foundations and have had a couple of LE palettes that were excellent.

I adore LM! I think my first purchase was a LM “lip kisses” lipstick in rose quartz or berry slush. Then creme brulee honey bath. I nagged my local Macys for years before they finally added a LM counter. My #1 most memorable LM purchase was a beautiful NM exclusive palette called “mercury rising” It had mermaid as well as bronzy eyeshadows, bronzers, illuminator and tawny lip shades for summer, all housed in a glossy burnt orange case. It was $50 at that time. I have not seen anything that has equalled it since, although I have even emailed the company, requesting its return!

Jaz Avatar

I have only tried her concealer ( I think it was the secret concealer). I didnt really like it , so I exchanged for the Dior concealer( which I dont really like that either). I think I need to just go back to bobbi brown for my concealer needs. I would like to try other products, but her price point is a bit high

My first LM product was a lipstick purchased for me by a friend – the shade Healthy Lips. I loved it and still love it and repurchase it often, even though it’s not long-wearing. It looks just like what the name says – healthy, rosy lips that we all wish we had naturally. After that, I think my next purchase was her mineral powder foundation, which I love, the tinted moisturizer, which I like okay and also her eye shadow “base” – got it in a VIB points package from Sephora and while the colour is a bit dark to be my natural lid colour, it’s a great product – not unlike Painterly Paint Pot but a bit darker. If I purchase, I’ll get a lighter shade.

My first LM product was her oil free foundation primer. I liked it but not enough to keep on buying it. I also liked her oil free tinted moisturizer for awhile, but again, not enough to repurchase. It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten anything from her line. Not because I don’t like it, but because I’ve branched out more and found better, I suppose. I’ve still been meaning to try her cake eyeliners though!

Veronica Avatar

I haven’t tried anything by her yet, but I’ve been meaning to try her kohl powder and caviar liners once I get through some of the ones I own. I have a friend who swears by her as the only black liner that doesn’t bleed off her waterline, which is something I could use in my life. 😛

My first and last item was a lipstick…bought about 1996-97. It was named “Madonna”….Yep, you got it right…names after Madge herself. Laura Mercier used to do her makeup especially when Madonna starred in “Evita”. The color was the same red she wore in that movie. I kept it awhile and didnt use it….and then like Nars lipstick…the lipstick became un-useable…that waxy, tacky feel. Never again did I buy anything and have no plans. Then I got the tinted moisturizer the other day as a free gift from Neiman Marcus beauty even….hear so many bad things about the tinted moisturizer…I dare not even try it.

The first makeup products (except for mascara) was all by Laura Mercier. I went to Holt Renfrew and the lady helped me pick the good shades and everything.

I bought the mineral powder foundation, a bronzer and a blush. I love them all, and use them since 2 years now. But I think I’ll try something else when I’ll finish my foundation, just because I haven’t tried anything else and would like to see what the other brands offer. But for now I’m very satisfied with what I bought.

The first mineral powder I bought lasted for 2 years! And the blush is good for a long time and I just hit the pan of the bronzer, and I use them everyday!

I was searching, once upon a time, for a dark navy eyeshadow to use as a liner. If you haven’t tried her eyeshadow in Deep Night you are MISSING OUT. It’s incredibly pigmented, deep, dark, rich color – the blue is more eye-accentuating than black, especially if you have fair skin like I do. Gives just a little “what’s different about her?” that normal colors don’t give. That being said, I’m trying to expand and get more professional, multi-purpose shadows and LM is up at the top of the list to get!

My first Laura Mercier product was the Silk Creme Foundation. The lightest shade was a perfect match for my very fair skin tone and looked beautiful on, but it made me break out horribly, so much that I can’t even use it as a special occasion foundation anymore! But it didn’t put me off the brand–I still love LM cake liner for tightlining, the eyeshadow Chocolate (a gorgeous and unique shade), and her blush in Rose Petal is my perfect everyday blush. If you are fair-skinned, check it out! 🙂

I got a sephora VIB sample kit with the tinted moisturizer, eye primer, foundation primer, and the face polish. everything was garbage except the wonderfully scented face polish. i think it’s the perfect scrub, at an awful price. bought it anyways. 🙂 and thats it!

Oh lordy, I love me some Laura Mercier. In high school my friend had LM’s Secret Camouflage, and I vowed to buy it once I could afford it. Fast forward to today, and I’ve bought or tried every product she offers and have loved every.single.thing. It seems she catches a bad rep on here (just through reading the comments), but she’ll always be in my top 5 favorite makeup lines.

My first LM products was several of the caviar sticks and instantly fell in love. i always missed out on mac shade sticks but having seen ppl use tem on YT im quite glad i did miss them they looked like u had to work at them to get colour. But the caviar sticks are amazing they go on like butter. but since them the collection has qrown quite rapidly evrything bar 2 items i have loved the first that i havent was again like most stated was the tinted moisturiser and the reason i ended up not liking it was a got a sample the lid was on so tight i never got the op to use it (as i cant open it) after being unable to open it for a week i noticed it oxadised and turned orange even in a container i couldnt physically open so decided the shelf life wasnt brilliant. the second was the burgendy mascarra. i love the colour and it shows up beautifuly but it is as dry as hell and i dont see it lasting very well either… But everyting elce amazing lippis wow tru red is my fave lippi so far 🙂
