Tarina Tarantino Amber/Elektron Eye Dream Highlight Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Tarina Tarantino Amber/Elektron Eye Dream Highlight Duo
Tarina Tarantino Amber/Elektron Eye Dream Highlight Duo ($19.00 for 0.26 oz.) contains a “bright copper” and a “bright champagne.”
- Amber is a rich copper brown with a frosted, metallic sheen. It has opaque color coverage. This is a shade that has been done by a lot of brands (including Tarina Tarantino). MAC Campfire is darker. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful is less metallic. theBalm Manic Mabel is less brown. theBalm Meep Meep is darker. MAC Double Feature 6 is very similar. MAC Amber Lights is richer.
- Elektron is a pale champagne with warm beige undertones and a metallic finish. It’s mostly opaque, but it’s not as pigmented as a lot of other shades by the brand–it does seem to work better applied to the eye. Tarina Tarantino Lovely is whiter. Giorgio Armani #1 is similar but darker, less champagne. MAC Baby, It’s Cold is more beige. MAC Dazzlelight is less metallic. Chanel Prelude is very similar.
Both shades have a really soft, dense, almost creamy texture that’s buttery and smooth as silk. Amber is nicely pigmented, while Elektron could use just a wee bit more pigmentation, though it seems to perform better on the eye than merely swatched on the skin. The two work together nicely, but I think I’d have preferred to have seen Elektron with a less metallic finish–then it could work really well as both a brightening shade on the lid as well as a highlighter. Using it as both with Amber in the crease comes off very metallic. When I wore this duo, both shades last a full eight hours without creasing or fading–whether they were over a primer or applied to bare lids.
It’s a good bang for your buck; you’re getting two full-sized eyeshadows, which are over double the size of the average full-sized eyeshadow (0.13 oz. vs. 0.05 oz.). The two shades offer what a brand offers in a quad! Of course, then we have to consider whether one would use up either shade and whether such a high amount is really a value.

I love Tarina Tarantino’s products so much (and only discovered them thanks to you, Christine) that I will certainly give this duo a look/see, though I have the feeling that the Amber shadow is just too orange toned for me (one reason I’ve also never bought Amber Lights).
Oh how I wish we could get her makeup in the UK! I want everything you review!
I love how huge these duos are! I have one (though not this duo). I love the quality of the Tarina Tarantino shadows.
I swatched this a couple months ago, but decided I have too many similar shades. It is really nice, though. I decided on NARS Alhambra that day, as it was better for my coloring, but I have to say, it took about 20 minutes to decide between the two. I must have looked really insane walking back and forth at Sephora, swatching the two.
I swatched the Moon Opal/Iris Plume duo in this line, and was blown away by how vibrant it was. I’ve been looking for a frosted pale pink glitter for AGES (I find usually pinks tend to fade and just look like sheer shimmer on my lids), and this one fit the bill. That it came with such a gorgeous plum shade was just a bonus, and I had to bring it home!
This is so similar to NARS’s Key Largo duo!
