Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).
We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral skin tone, green eyes, dark hair with some silver
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? Mostly yes, except for a couple of super dense foundation brushes that are a little challenging.
What do you use to wash them? I use Dawn dishwashing liquid and a brush cleaning mat. I hang them to dry—brush side down—on my shower rail using elastic bands.
How often do you wash them? I do an overall brush wash at least twice a week. I have several foundation brushes, so I usually switch to a different one after two uses. I’m a bit more lenient with powder brushes. I have quite a few eyeshadow brushes, so I switch them out when I change colors. Brush wash day is usually around 10-15 brushes.
Skin tone: Very fair with cool undertones. I have been noticing lately that my cool undertones are appearing less pronounced. Not sure why but I am leaning a little more neutral though still on the cool side. I don’t have a tan so that isn’t it. Never too old for your skin to change!!
Do I enjoy washing my brushes? Until very recently I never washed my brushes, never ever!! I don’t have issues with them retaining color. I don’t have acne or any negative reaction to not washing my brushes. I have at least a couple brushes that I have had for at least 30 years and have never washed them. I use a Vera Mona color changer pad now but for all the previous years I would simply run my dry brush back and forth on a piece of paper towel or tissue and then use the next shade. I am not recommending this to anyone as we each have our own comfort level and being a nurse I am usually pretty germophobic but this doesn’t bother me. We all touch our hands to our faces daily and there are way more germs on our hands than on any brush. I did say that I have washed a couple of brushes lately and those would be the Wayne Goss and Hakuhodo brushes I have recently purchased. I am not sure I will continue washing them but for now I am following their cleaning instructions.
What do I use to wash them? I picked up an inexpensive Real Techniques rubber brush cleaning mat and am using a solid cleanser from Sephora. I have also used baby shampoo which is what Beautylish says Wayne Goss recommends for cleaning his brushes.
How often do you wash them? The ones I wash about once a week. I am already bored with it so not sure I how long I will keep it up, in all honesty.
Skintone / coloring : light, MAC NC 15 – 20, med brown hair and eyes
Do you enjoy washing your brushes: No. It’s very tedious
What do you use to wash your brushes: Dr.Bonner’s Castile Soap
How often do you wash your brushes: Every couple of weeks. My sponge after every use. Typically I wash after use if it’s foundation bc that is difficult to get out of brushes/sponges
Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? Nope!
What do you use to wash them? Right now I’m using up a bar of African black soap on them. Usually I use e.l.f. Brush Shampoo or baby shampoo on them. For daily cleaning, I use Cinema Secrets.
How often do you wash them? Once a week. Foundation brushes get washed after use.
Your skin tone/coloring: Porcelain
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? It’s satisfying to see them get clean but I wouldn’t say I enjoy doing it.
What do you use to wash them? Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap. I also have a mini blendercleanser solid bar for travel, I can pack less eye brushes if I wash them every day.
How often do you wash them? Every Sunday I wash whatever brushes I used that week.
Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap deserves more hype for brush cleaning! 🙂
Your skin tone/coloring: Medium Olive skin tone w/ neutral undertones.
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? NO! LOL
What do you use to wash them? Just whatever bar soap I have in my bathroom at the time. I spot clean with the MUFE brush cleanser spray.

Your skin tone/coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones MAC NC37 Studio Sculpt, Lancome Teint Idole Foundation N360, deep brunette, blue-green eyes w/ gold flecks.
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? Nope!
What do you use to wash them? For actual cleansing with water, I use Suave Clarifying shampoo mixed with some coconut oil, working that mixture into the brush head, followed by rinsing in warm water. Or, more commonly, I use Sephora’s Daily Brush Cleaner with a clean cloth or paper towel.
How often do you wash them? Not as often as I should….?
Skintone / coloring : Fair olive but tan easily. About NC25 right now
Do you enjoy washing your brushes: Yes. It’s kind of relaxing and I get a great sense of accomplishment.
What do you use to wash your brushes: Daily-Clinique Brush Cleaner Spray. Deep cleaning I had been using QUO(Shoppers Drug Mart brand) solid brush cleaner, but have been using Sunlight Laundry Bar and it’s the best thing I’ve tried yet. Gets foundation out well.
How often do you wash your brushes: Deep cleaning is every three weeks, on a Friday, usually. They are dry by Monday then. I have a lot of brushes, and by the time 3 weeks have all my favourites have been banished to the “past brush spray” bag,
Your skin tone/coloring: Light/Medium with yellow (warm) undertones (MAC NC 20-25)
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? I’m not having fun doing it, but I don’t mind washing them as often as I can.
What do you use to wash them? Castille soap (unscented), it’s gentle but still more efficient than special brush cleansers
How often do you wash them? I wash my brushes every 4-5 days, but except setting powder brushes, I rarely use a brush twice (and never if I use them with a cream/liquid product). I have Real Techniques, Sephora and MAC brushes that I own for 3-4 years, wash them 1-2 times a week and look like brand new. I had some misses with Real Technique brushes (either hairs falling or metal part coming off the handle) after about an year. ELF brushes also last well in the first year, but the wooden handle would eventually start cracking after that.
Your skin tone/coloring: NC15 w/some redness
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? not really, no
What do you use to wash them? spot clean with a Sephora brand spray, proper clean with the BeautyBlender solid cleanser
How often do you wash them? Spot clean daily for powder brushes and deep clean about once a week, for cream/liquid product brushes I clean them every day I use them.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light medium, yellow undertones. Dark brown hair & eyes.
Do you enjoy washing your brushes? Not particularly but I do enjoy using clean brushes more than I dislike washing them, so.
What do you use to wash them? Beautyblender solid, Korres Chamomile soap bar or Dr Bronner liquid castile soap, depending on what is handy and how grubby they are.
How often do you wash them? A full deep clean about once a month and I dry them in direct sunlight if possible, with spot cleaning/disinfection with IPA in between as needed. The exceptions are my liquid foundation and cream concealer brushes which get washed 2 – 3 times a week because they get gunkier faster. I have multiples of these so I always have a clean, dry one ready to be used. I also don’t use the same eye brushes every day, so I can rotate through those as needed.
Skin tone/coloring: light medium neutral, blue eyes, dyed chocolate brown hair
Do I enjoy washing my brushes? Yes. It is very satisfying to watch that dirty water go down the drain.
What do I used to wash them? Fels Naptha laundry bar and a brush cleaning mat. I lay them flat to dry on a kitchen towel.
How often do I wash them? I wash foundation, powder and blush brushes every week along with any sponges I have used. If I am pressed for time, I don’t also wash my eye brushes but I try to wash them at least every few weeks.

I wash my brushes in a bowl of 2 cups warm

What do you use to wash them? Sonett Curd soap or sulfate free shampoo
How often do you wash them? After each use for eyeshadow and foundation brushes. Every week for blush brushes.
~nw20. Sort of. I usually have the hue switching pan out, when using brushes. Spray clean ~ every three days…enough brushes to last single use for three days. Wet wash three weeks to a month. Want to put in my 2cents about the IT brush bath. OMBFG dreadful. Maybe mine was wonky, but 2/3 of the bottle is gone after washing maybe 12-15 brushes. Does NOT remove much color from white bristles, and leaves a residue that somewhat dissipates overnight. Somewhat. Worst purchase of the year…and I got Backtalk! Thank for reminding me about the African black soap, Rachel. That’s a far better alternative. When you get bad results, clearly you don’t enjoy it. And consumer reviews are very positive, how?
Medium with Yellow undertones
It really depends on my mood. I’m lazy to start washing them, but once I start, I need to do them all and I feel good after knowing that they’re all clean.
For foundation sponges/ brushes, I’ve been using the Beauty Blender soap and it does an amazing job getting out the oils and washing them squeaky clean. For my inexpensive brushes and higher end Japanese brushes, I use a gentler shampoo or hand soap to wash them.
I wish I could say I wash them once a week. It really depends. But lately it’s been every few weeks? I’m a minimal makeup wearer day to day so there’s very little buildup.
