12 x Pat McGrath Decadence Mothership Eyeshadow Palette Look Ideas
Pat McGrath Decadence Mothership Eyeshadow Palette ($125.00 for 0.47 oz.) is a limited edition palette that released this spring (it’s still available) featuring 10 pearl-to-metallic shades in more mid-tone and deeper shades. Every single shade has shimmer, and for the most depth and nuance, I highly recommend incorporating some mattes and satins into one’s look if you’re not all about shimmer everywhere and anywhere. You can also dust translucent powder or a similarly-hued (but matte) shade to tamp down the metallic finish, too.
About This Series
Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.
You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to consider incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. Consider these ideas a jumping off point!

Wow, I love these combinations! 3, 8, 10, 11… beautiful and would not have leaped out to me.
This really is one gorgeous palette. Thanks for reminding me how to damp down the metal! I did nearly knock out my vision recently, with some new shades that definitely needed a bit of discouragement. Kind of wish I had fallen for it during the Pat sale.
This one is super helpful! I’ve been struggling a little with stand alone looks using Decadence! (It works really well with my Viseart Neutral Mattes though!)
I use Viseart Neutral Mattes with almost all of my colourful and/or shiny palettes. It’s probably my most used palette.
wow i would have never thought to pair warm & cool tones together like some of your suggestions, esp look 1. can’t wait to try some of these combos! thank you for doing this!!
Sensational combinations Christine.
I’m so glad that this palette doesn’t do anything for me color wise. At first look I really liked the palette (though I hate lots of the names of the individual colors), but after seeing the combos, I fell like I have a lot of these colors and that for now they’re just too dark. I must be changing in my tastes because I really prefer the Subliminal and Subversive palettes to this one.
You created a lot of inspiring quads Christine, thank you! That kind of post also helps me to figure if I would actually use the palette a lot.
I am in love with the possibilities offered by this palette… Totally something I would want to wear weekly!
