NARS Buenos Aires Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil
NARS Buenos Aires Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil
NARS Buenos Aires Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil ($24.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “nude beige pink.” It’s a light peach beige with a subtle shine. The color coverage is mostly opaque. It’s not quite as glossy or as shiny as other hues within the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil range, though. MAC Naturally Eccentric is lighter. MAC Peachstock is darker, more orange. Guerlain Guerlinade is slightly darker. Â What I like about the color is that it’s more universally wearable–it’s not so pale and light that it becomes the kind of nude that can easily wash out complexions. Â There’s enough warmth, color, and opaqueness to give lips a lighter look without washing them out.
When I wore Buenos Aires, it lasted for just over three and a half hours. There was a very slight tackiness after an hour or so–very subtle but still there. The texture is fairly lightweight and thin. While the formula is supposed to be moisturizing, I found it neutral; neither drying nor moisturizing. The tip of the pencil is soft and creamy, so it applies fairly easily and provides even coverage. Â The packaging is a bit of a bummer, because the softness of the pencil means a lot of it gets stuck in the sharpener, so there is a fair amount of loss every time you sharpen it. You can freeze the pencil to help minimize it, but it’s still a problem.

love it!!! i want it!!
and i love your makeup, its so sweet!
Is it peach beige rather than pink beige because I’m little confused after I read your review?
The description from NARS is nude beige pink, but you said peach beige, so that’s why I’m asking.:)
There’s no pink in it from what I can tell. I include brand’s official descriptions for your information purposes, but I always describe it myself based on what actually see – hope that clarifies!
Thanks for your comment! If it’s peach beige, I have to pass because peach shade always makes me look like a corpse.:(
It’s a darker peach-beige, so it might not, but I keep looking at it, and I don’t see pink tones. I’d expect to see some in the swatch, but at the very least, on the lips!
Oh, and one more thing. Does it have some shimmer like other gloss pencils such as New Lover or Frivolous?
It doesn’t seem to have shimmer – it looks maybe frosted in the swatch, but on, it looks more like a shine/glossiness.
Why is it so hard for cosmetics companies to describe their colors accurately??
Tell me about it! I was really excited when I saw the gloss lip pencil because I was looking for some beige pink lipstick. But now, I’m really disappointed!!
Definitely need to swatch this one in store – it looks fabulous. I’m also loving your eye makeup today, Christine – it’s a gorgeous look!
I think I’ll pass on this one. I had such high hopes when I saw all the previews, but it doesn’t seem like such a unique color to merit the price without having much in the way of moisturizing. And I hate the idea of a product in the form of a pencil that needs to be sharpened; I much prefer automatic pencils.
* When it comes to making a decision to buy a product, I don’t typically allow packaging to influence me, but I really don’t care for pencils because, aside from losing a fair amount of product, they wind up tiny little nubs after a while.
This goes great with the rest of your makeup! You look so radiant. 🙂
Hi Christine! I’m nominating you for Versatile Blogger Award (did a post in my blog) because you are an institution in the world of beauty blogging! You are amazing! Keep it up! =)
Off topic but will you be reviewing NARS
Brightly colored nail polishes inspired by

I’m so excited for these colors, & do you know
If they will be for sale at Sephora too or just
NARS website? Thankyou so much for any help
Regarding thi!!!s :o)
Looks gorgeous…the packaging kills it :/
Is this similar to nars Honolulu honey?
I don’t think I have that!
Your eye makeup is so pretty today!
That looks beautiful on you! And I love the studio lighting. It’s so helpful to know how colors can change. I’ve been on the losing end of a cool/warm light shift more than once.
This is the first lipstick I’ve seen (that I recall) that does not look great on you. And normally EVERYTHING looks great on you!!! Every single thing. So, even if I liked glossy things or lip stuff in pencil form (which I most vehemently do NOT), then I would have to pass. If something doesn’t look good on YOU, then there is little hope for the rest of us. lol
I love this on you too. Looks like a nice sultry nude for summer. I am going to check this one out!
Way too warm for my cool-toned, pale skin unfortunately, but I love it in the photos! I like the idea of a lip pencil, it seems sort of convenient since you don’t need to tote around an extra lip liner.
O M JESUS!! I need this!
This lip look is gorgeous, so uncomplicated, but very enticing.
I love the entire look! very fresh and chic
I really like this shade! It’s pretty!
I’m gonna have to go and get it just because that’s where I’m from! 😀
I really like the eye makeup combined with this lip colour! I think if I plan on splurging a bit I will buy this! Thank you so much for the in depth review, appreciate it 🙂
xx Veronica
